🐟 Stan and Rhonda continue to explore Michigan's Upper Peninsula. In this episode of Rally Bound & Beyond, Stan and Rhonda pack up the RV and give you one last look at beautiful Indian Lake State Park. Before heading out, they take their viewers to Palms Book State Park and experience one of the most popular attractions in the Upper Peninsula, Kich-iti-kipi.
Kich-iti-kipi attracts 60,000 visitors a year and is the largest fresh water spring in the state of Michigan. Watch as Stan and Rhonda turn the big wheel that propels the wooden raft along a cable across this natural spring. The crystal blue/green water is so clear you can see the spring bubble up from the bottom. The spring is approximately 40 feet deep and 200 feet wide. In the middle of the wooden raft is an open rectangular area where you can view the large fish swimming under the raft. Come with Stan and Rhonda on the their last adventure in the Upper Peninsula as they leave the state of Michigan.

That is a true Yooper thing to do! Pay the fair for the next guy behind you. I had Census training in Traverse City, I-75 had construction and the line on US-2 to the exit for the bridge was almost a mile long or was (backed up to Burger King) a mile. Guy in a black pick up towing a fifth wheel honked at me and motioned for me to pull in front of him. Super nice thing to do, so when I got to the toll booth I paid for his way to cross the bridge. That is the UP way, we support each other when we see someone in need of help. I noticed you were going back and mentioned the fall colors. One road that is really great to drive in the fall is Forest Highway 13, the road goes north and south between US-2 and M-28. At some points the trees cover the sky over the road like a tree tunnel. In the fall this is spectacular as the trees are all hardwood deciduous and have many different colors from yellow, orange, red, purplish, and some white. But the time is short from the time the leaves turn colors to when they fall is at most 3 weeks but can be as short as 1 week. Even when the leaves have fallen it is nice traveling that road as the leaves tend to cover the road and fly up when you drive over them.

We just got our camper 3 weeks ago and stayed at 2 State Parks so far. We Love them. The first one there was a line at the dump station. I definitely move quickly, but I also make sure to flush my black tank. It only takes a few more minutes. One thing I learned from watching many RV’ers on KZbin is to not worry about rushing things to make for a more enjoyable experience. That being said, the guy in front of me was definitely taking his sweet time and trying to talk and have a conversation with the guy next to him and slowing him down as well. He seemed to be a little annoyed as the guy was just hanging out like he was sitting around the campfire. I haven’t felt pressured yet, and I think you should empty and clean properly. As long as you keep moving and be in get-r-done mode, I don’t think most people will make you feel rushed. Thanks for sharing your videos.

Congratulations! You learned how to say Khitcitikipi, but all the locals here just call it Big Springs. I grew up in Garden and I am only 4 minutes into the video but I hope you come down the Garden peninsula to visit the Fayette State Park Ghosttown. Any how, hope you liked traveling the UP there are many places you can find just by asking the local Yoopers! Lots of open area up here even though the UP has 30% of Michigan’s land area only 3% of its population lives in the UP. Just so everyone knows when I say UP it sounds like “You Pee”. Also there is a local language here in the UP that Yoopers speak. You will hear things like: Yah, ay, yousguys, whatcha, and no matter what every Michigan native living in the Lower Peninsula is called a “Troll”. the reason for this is because they all live under the bridge (Mackinac Bridge that connects the Upper and Lower Peninsulas). If you have ever been to Canada 🇨🇦 and you visit the UP, you will think you are still in Canada.

Hello there and nice to meet you! We greatly appreciate sharing all your knowledge on the UP (you pee;) 😂 Love it!! We absolutely loved our travels throughout the UP and found it hard to leave. We never did make it to Fayette State park, but we had to leave something to come back for. We were informed about the trolls under the bridge 😂 We are actually heading to Canada in September for the first time so I’m sure we will hear alot of the same dialect 👏 Hope you enjoyed the rest of the show and will watch more of our Michigan adventures! ~ Rhonda and Stan

@@OverTheHillAdventuresI will enjoy your travels as I just subscribed. I have been a lot of places around the world but one of the hardest things I did was ride the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge 2012. I was rider 749 and I rode 13,575 miles in 10 days! It was exhausting as Nobody knew the route until 20 minutes before we left check point #1 in Las Vegas. You were required to follow all traffic laws, go as far as you can safely drive each day, and you had to sleep next to your motorcycle (no hotels). I was driving 18 to 20 hours a day and my exhaustion reached its limit on the Tail of the Dragon which is on US-129 on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. The Tail is 11 miles and I’ve heard 318 corners (switch backs on the side of the mountain. I was so tired that I closed my eyes for a second and was in the gravel shoulder (wasn’t much shoulder at all) and laid my bike down when I tried to recover to the road. There were at that time (1995 - August 2012) 35 deaths on the Dragon for various accidents and since then another 29 deaths up to Dec 31 2021. My engine guard was the only thing keeping me from going off the road, so I got myself up picked my things got the bike upright and then rode in to Deals Gap in Robbinsville NC called my wife and decided to drive home 1012 miles. When I got home I got off my bike and laid down on the concrete for at least 2 hours relaxing. For 3 weeks my hands shook and were numb as if something was injured when I hit the road on the Tail. All better now, but in 2017 I gave up motorcycle due to brain injury.

Ah, Kitch-iti-kipi! We went there every year when I was a kid. I remember it like it was yesterday! There used to be a gift store there that sold all sorts of souvenirs. It was torn down years ago for some reason. Dottie and I were surprised to see the boardwalks up to the raft dock. Things do change in 45 years. We've really enjoyed sharing your trip through the UP, short as it was. There's more to see that y'all didn't have time to see, but y'all hit many of the high points. @OverTheHillAdventures - KZbin channel??? Naaa! We'll leave that to y'all! 😂😂🤣🤣🤣 Too bad y'all missed Fayette State Park while at Indian Lake. It's a 19th-century iron smelting town about 40 minutes from Kitch-iti-kipi. We called it "The Ghost Town," and when we went fishing there and the sun went down, we begged dad to leave so the ghosts wouldn't get us! Of course, he started making spooky noises. 👻 It's been partially restored and has an outstanding visitor center. It's a shame y'all missed it. We'll figure out a way to send some of our adventures in the UP to y'all!

I called them, they sent someone out to check our site and they found them. They then mailed them to us. When we arrived home from our trip they were in the mailbox. So greatful. When comes to the dump station we do everything possable to leave on a Monday and do it at like 12:45 being that we're time on a time schedule. If we have someone waiting behind us,we just assure them we're going as quick as we can. In all our years we haven't had any nasty people!.

Hello Bob and Dang, to be honest we have not either. This was almost back to back. Just makes us laugh and it does not make us go any faster or slower. We will be pulling in on Tuesday. Here is my suggestion. When we pull in go to the left near the back of the pack. Park your rig with your door facing east. The wind is usually coming from south/ west in that area. I think there is one day where it will come in from the north. That way you have wind block. We choose to be on the south side because it tends to be less dusty. Safe travels, Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️

Hi Paul, we only flush the black for a few seconds to get all the toilet paper so it doesn’t stick on the walls. Water is your best friend when it comes to the black tank, We are so fast. The grey tanks empty slow. Thank you for joining us. Blessings, Stan and Rhonda 🙏🏼❤️

Sometimes I feel rushed, but better take a little more time than having a poopsy. Questions for you, I have a 2500 RL also…what do you do about drinking water? Thanks

Hi Richard, thank you for your comment. Even though I sterilized my water tank. I never drink the water from the tank or the spigot. We have a 5 gallon water jug we fill with water from Walmart or the market that has reverse osmosis. Rhonda has a little rechargeable operated water pump that she puts on top of. It works great!! Then we also carry one gallon water bottles for our coffee. We use tank water to cook because we boil it. May sound a little obsessive but it’s very important to us. You just never know. I hope this helps! Blessings, Stan and Rhonda🙏🏼❤️

If they have to wait then they have to wait. Dumping a black tank isn't fun for anybody, and like you said, it has to be done right. Too many self entitled people out there, he may not have realized there was another dump port but at that point he should have centered up on it to off load, not your problem, it was his. Would have been karma for him to damage his dump hose, didn't take the extra effort to disconnect to avoid possible problem, would have been even funnier if when he ran over his own dump hose that it broke at the spade valve on the tank. there have been times when there's been a line so I wait my turn then do the dump cycle of black then grey and then leave, rinse at the next dup station, you can go a few times before you must do the extra Black tank fresh water flush.

Just do your thing when emptying. If you rush, you will do something wrong which could be a stinky mistake. I don't do the hose rinse to save time and is not needed IMO. Don't have a tank rinse.

Hi Bert, thank you for your input. It truly makes me laugh. I can understand if I was taking a long time. What takes time is the grey water it drains so slow!! Thank you for joining us. Blessings, Stan and Rhonda 🙏🏼❤️
