Hello Lee and Pam! I don’t know if you are aware, but there is a recall on the tailgate of Ford F350s. We have a 2022 F350 DWS Lariat, had out tailgate drop on us a few days ago and it peeled open the front of our fifth wheel like a sardine can. We took it to the Ford dealer in Spokane, WA for assistance and they ran our VIN for the recall. Yep…we weren’t crazy or stupid like we had thought. It is called “Unintentional tailgate opening” or something like that. I was given a number to Ford to put in a claim for the repairs to the tailgate and the trailer. It is going to be a hassle, but it shouldn’t cost anything for the repairs. Good luck and we love the channel! You guys are always so happy and the kids are great! Dave (FYI-we haven’t started a channel yet but we are planning to under the name “RV Sidecar Adventures” in the near future).

Thanks Dave! You're awesome!!! Good luck with the repairs and please keep us updated on your process. We will follow your lead on this as you can see we have a big patch on the front of our Rig as well. We actually stopped by the Ford Dealership and inquired about this yesterday. They informed us that the letter we are receiving is to let us know the issue exists, but there is no current fix for the problem. I actually asked them to schedule "Maximus" in for Warranty Repair and they told us there is no current fix but they will let us know when there is. Definitely double check with your local area and keep us posted if they have a different process. We might make the drive to your dealership to get this tailgate fixed. :) Looking forward to watching all of your adventures. Let us know if you have any questions along the way. All the best and Safe Travels.

Will do. We haven’t actually been promised a “fix” for this issue yet, but it sounds like Ford is willing to pony up for the repairs (as they should). Tomorrow I will get the phone number I called to lodge my “claim” so you will have someone concrete to call and get a ticket # going. I Waze told the legal department would take two weeks to get back to me but it only took a couple of days. They do ask for pictures and other information that needs to be submitted and I will be doing that in early July. I’ll post my progress and any obstacles Ford throws at me so you will know. Best, Dave

One possibility on the tailgate is that you inadvertently hit the tailgate release button when letting the emergency brake off. I noticed that I was occasionally doing that.
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
Hi Larry, great point. We actually convinced ourselves of that possibility on the first two instances. (Including the damage to the rig). Afterwards this has happened several more times, and we have now confirmed that the tailgate will just randomly fall. We tried to show that in the video, but everyone’s situation is a little different. We won’t be asking Ford to fix any rig damages, but we won’t be replacing the RV front compartment door anytime soon. We have very low confidence that this won’t happen again. Ford sent out a bunch of letters to confirm the issue, but they don’t have a repair process yet. More to follow. 👍

Regarding the pocket door and puck issue.....would you be able to counterbore the puck hole and recess it a little? It would clear the frame then. I think that would work if I read the problem correctly. Better than replacing the entire thing. Good luck on the rest of the remaining repairs.
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Great point and we didn’t even think of that. We might just do that instead. This pocket door problem is not unique to our rig. That is why the new models have a farm door instead of pocket door for the mid-bunk. It seems Jayco couldn’t solve it either. In repair, they only fixed the blinds. I have a question. Are you having your warranty work done at the manufacturer or the dealership? We just purchased a Heartland Gravity 3550, and we've had issues one month out. I'm a photographer that can do videos; however, people don't understand the work involved in videos. Awesome job!!! I love your b-roll and your musical choices. But something you guys should know, it's more about your personalities and you guys have great personalities. But you put out a lot of great information. I was telling a friend of mine about your videos and he also agrees that putting together videos is a lot harder than people think. Keep them coming. :)
@discoveryboundrv11 ай бұрын
We actually could never get to the Manufacturer (Jayco). We always had to go back to the dealership first. We tried to take it to Indiana, but Jayco wouldn’t approve it. The only constant in RVing is doing maintenance. You will always have something broke, new or used doesn’t matter. Also, don’t forget that it costs money (gas, lodging, etc.) to take it in for repairs. That’s why we fix most of the issues ourselves. Usually a $10.00 part. Thanks for the great support! You are 100% right about long-form videos. They are pretty tough to crank out every week, but we love the context and information that we can share with others that you just can’t do with Instagram or KZbin Shorts. We like to say that every road-trip begins with a great playlist. Crank the music up and hit the road. 😀 Since the beginning, we have had people ask us to stop with the music…we say, there are thousands of other RV channels repeating the same message over and over. No rainbows on this channel, just 100% the truth of RVing. All the best with your new RV and getting those issues fixed. Keep us posted. Best, Lee & Pam.

Re: Pam and the tiny trash bag. Having Workamped, it is not unusual to see a tied-up kitchen trash bag in a recently-vacated site as there are so many RV Parks with so many different rules about trash. I'm sure it would not have been considered a sin. However it brought to mind something that happened to me decades ago as a teenager when I worked part time at a large tourist attraction, outside. A group arrived in an 18-seater tour bus and dispatched its passengers, save the driver, who spoke (perfect English, though) with a German accent. The driver ate his bagged lunch then asked me where there was a trash can. I really didn't know, so invited him to drop it on the ground then I would pick it up later. He told me 'no', that he had seen one and pointed a considerable distance away, then off he went. To this day I am struck by his un-laziness (is that a word?) and desire to do the right thing. So Pam, thank you for doing things right, the European way.

Great tip and thanks! We did a big check with a dealership in Sacramento, CA. That was the next stop we had after our tailgate tore up the front of our rig. We went through all of the settings and there was nothing in there that seemed off to the technician or myself. He even said, we probably left the tailgate down. Well, half a dozen more times of tailgate drops only confirmed that it isn't us doing it. Pam and I were convinced we were going crazy. LOL. Thanks again and safe travels.

Yes and on my 2021 GM 3500 HD there is a message and warning bong tone that tells me the tailgate is down. I like the power tailgate and the ability to open and close it from inside the truck but a fully manual tailgate worked fine for many years.

Nicely done video. I do however find the rolling earthquake analogy interesting. Seems that only applies to the RV and not the tow vehicle that’s experiencing the same roads and the same “earthquake”. Are moldings, trim pieces, falling off the truck while it experiences the earthquake?
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
Hi Harley, thank you! Actually, it affects both and it all depends on your suspension. Rigs are built tough, but after watching a GoPro video of the inside of your RV rolling down an interstate and “earthquake” is the closest thing to mind. Tow vehicles have independent suspension and are built to absorb heavy road conditions better. We are little confused on the truck trim pieces question, though. Let us know if you have seen that happen before. Thanks again and Safe travels.
@harley92182 жыл бұрын
My thought was that while parts falling off an RV seem to be somewhat acceptable, parts falling off a truck would not be. Sure suspension makes a big difference, but I have to wonder why RVs aren’t manufactured with a suspension that would keep things from falling apart. I do admire your positive attitude and acceptance of the issues inherent with an RV. Safe travels.
@discoveryboundrv2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Harley! We completely agree! This is a great conversation based on value. Is a rig that costs over six figures worth the measure of its parts and workmanship. With engineering techniques the way they are today, would an extra 5k directed solely to ensuring things don’t fall apart be worth the added price to ensure the value of the product. We have learned a lot by owning a rig but wish our RV value was a little more balanced as you could see in the video. Thanks again Harley for the great discussion and I hope others agree as well. All the best, Pam & Lee.

How many miles does that cap have on it? I’m a hat guy to, and hate breaking in a new one. But I think Justin Boot Company needs to send you a new hat!
