I'm getting the sense that it's quite difficult to make a home of this size with sliding walls and all, that can handle the stress of being towed all over the place. It's asking a lot of rather lightweight walls and framing. Or at least to get it right every time, the builder costs/hours would be much higher, and materials of a heavier weight/strength, which could cause issues towing. Up until recently I'd rather travel using AirBnbs which we use all over the world, until the cleaning fees and all shot way up. Sadly now budget travelling has gotten real difficult.

If they get a mold test, make sure it is a suspended particle test. They use a special device that sucks in air into a special filter. That filter is sealed and sent to a laboratory for testing the mold test that you get at Home Depot is only good if a piece of mold just happens to fall onto the dish. Also make sure they take a battery powered leaf blower and blow into the air conditioning ducks to loosen up any possible mold do that all the nooks and crannies as well. The air circulating in the RV at least 24 hours prior to the test, this way you’ll ensure you have a good outcome whether it be positive or negative. I have first hand knowledge of having the old test done in my apartment and it tested positive for mold.

I was concerned when I saw the wheel bearing issue that they are having. This is a safety concern that shoulld be addressed before towing the trailer to a new location. Also, if one wheel is like that, what about the other wheels? Even if it is as simple as having a wheel seize up while on the road, it would not be an easy or cheap fix. If I was in this situation., I would seriously consider having the trailer inspected before moving it from it's current location. Hopefully the inspection will identify any safety issues that are present so that they can be fixed as soon as possible and to provide a comprehensive list of everything that needs to be fixed. They can then use this document to show proof to the vendor that such problems actually exist.
@melberry5379Сағат бұрын
Part of the issue is that they put such garbage axles on most of these. Even the best ones are supposed to be serviced every 12,000 miles or so. They don't exactly emphasize it, but if you don't have it done, it can void your warranty.

The way the industry works is just wrong. We need a lemon law similar to automobiles. People spend 100K or more and then have to struggle through the first year trying to get something similar to the "NEW" item they were supposed to have. While they fight the dealer and the builder, they are out of a home in some cases for 6 months or more. These companies should have to buy it back or swap it out. They can spend 6 months fixing it on their own time and then sell it as used.

@melberry5379Сағат бұрын
Why would they worry about quality? The warranty periods are short, easy for you to accidentally void, or easy to slow walk you through. Most RV media, even on YT, are associated with either dealers, or manufacturers. There are very few consumer protections. Most purchase contracts include forced arbitration, so very often, you can't even sue them. Even when you can, the regulations either don't exist, or slant in their favor. On the odd chance you get a buyback, or some other settlement, you won't be able to publicize it because you'll have to sign an NDA.

Beyond all the standard BS with the industry, they're taking advantage of the fact that many people turn to RVs as a cheaper way to live and move where jobs are. It's far easier to buy an RV and move it than it is to try and move to another area. Often it's far cheaper too. Couple years ago I lost my job because I couldn't afford to move from Kansas to California on the $5k raise they offed me. Just my rent would have cost 5 times what it does here. Until we realized just how bad the RV industry was, we were considering it as an option.

You are incorrect. This is definitely an issue with new houses. There are almost as few protection with those as there are with RVs. Most manufactured homes (not modular) and tiny homes are built to FEMA code which is very similar to RV code. Modular and stick built homes are built to IBC (international building code) standards. Even with those there are issues, but it's usually more with quality than safety. You still have many of the same issues that you do with RVs though.

@@titaniumsandwedge I'm afraid that your particular circumstance is not the norm. While some builders do value their reputation, you have many of the same problems. Short warranties, slow walking repairs, and finger pointing that very often goes nowhere. Developer blames the builder, builder blames the subcontractor, etc. Your foundation go bad? Yeah, our warranty doesn't cover what we didn't build. Roof leaks? Yeah, that's on the roofing company. Windows fog up? Yeah, that's a manufacturing defect, our warranty doesn't cover that. You'll have to call them. Electrical have an issue? Sorry, they went out of business. You're gonna sue? Well, if you look at your contract, you'll see you can't. You have to take us to arbitration with an arbiter of our choosing. Oh, this is the rare occasion you can sue? Here's this settlement, but you have to sign an NDA, or we'll bleed you dry in court.

@@melberry5379 What world do you live in? I bought new houses from entities that in their capacity as 'general contractor', did all the warranty chasing around. In most states, there are few to no regulations at all for the RV industry.

Have you seen the “angles Morts” stickers….? They are on all of the European lorries coming to the UK. As English speakers we all know what they mean…
@LizAmazing3 сағат бұрын
No, I have not heard of that. You’ll have to enlighten me. And thanks for watching.

The "Angles Morts" (Blind Spots) sticker is a visual warning sign that draws attention to blind spots in road traffic. A blind spot is an area that the driver cannot see due to the vehicle design, even though it should be in view.

I don’t get why someone would buy a very expensive RV (a lot of times it’s an upgrade and not their first rodeo) and don’t get an RV Inspection. I got a used $32k class C and I got one.

Only thing I would accept for this "brand new" unit is a buyback. I have owned a 2015 motorhome for 7 years now and have never had any quality issues. Very sad.

Just buy it back Forest River! Shabby workmanship isn’t a selling option but being good with your word should make your decision to buy it back.😮

Did Forest River send out a representative to see the 5th Wheel? Has anyone from the company seen it at all? If no, then they probably want to see it for themselves before even considering a buy-back. If I was the owner of Forest River, that would be my policy.

Thirty seconds in, I bet they did not get a pre-purchase inspection.

Best to buy from a small independent RV maker, like I say in the video, or to buy a solid well built classic. Thanks for watching.

A person would have to be insane, to buy an RV today.
@LizAmazing2 сағат бұрын
That’s why I said that it’s probably not a good idea to be buying anything mass produced. But definitely check out independent RV makers. Buy enlarge. They put out a good product and take care of their customers. Keep watching and I talk about exactly that with SimpleCamp.

FR needs to start holding their manufacturering plant personnel accountable as well as their 3rd party suppliers for crap equipment. FR seems to be listening more but they need to be building better on the front end.

The structural integrity of a Guillow's balsa and tissue model airplane is better then RVs today. I was with friends when we rented a trailer and it would fall apart if you stared at it wrong. The owner said it was actually a POS anyways.

Yes, so sad. That's why I think it's best to avoid mass produced RVs these days and go for quality independent makers. Thanks for watching
@JT-1969Сағат бұрын
Hi Liz, unfortunately, until there are government regulations that are enforced, RV manufactures will continue to produce poor quality products. Yes, occasionally people get a good unit, but more and more people are getting poor quality units, what you show is a very small fraction of the number of people suffering the same issues. The best way to improve this is for everyone to stop/boycott buying new RV’s. Until we put a hurt on the industry as a whole, nothing will change. I own a 2004 TrailBay 27DS, I will continue to keep this unit until the manufacturers can produce quality units again. Thank you for helping all you can, may God Bless you in all you do! 🇺🇸

It's a wonder they can stay in business if they put out shoddy products and then don't take care of the customer. All it will take is one company doing it right and there'll be a line out the door!! Thanks for watching. If you are buying new, best to go for a small independent RV maker, as I say in the video.

@@LizAmazing Hi Liz, I’d love for you to showcase a small RV maker that produces 5th wheels, something in the 35 foot range with multiple floor plans. At this time I don’t know of any that exist. America needs to take a stand against these large companies, demand better!

Well dang I have a 2014 spree connect 280 with a massive solar system 1600w solar thats expandable to ground mount and 15kwh battery 3000w inverter and i run my AC through the night. i have not had much wrong with mine and we travel a lot with it. guessing 10 years ago was the sweet spot.

Forest River should buy it back. What’s worst about all of this is that the dealership they bought it from probably charged them an inspection fee which IMO is a ripoff because they seem to miss these very obvious problems. I’m in the process of purchasing a used RV but I’m paying for an independent inspection, on top of that the dealer’s inspection/dealer prep fee which they say is nonnegotiable. So I’m basically paying twice to have it inspected. I don’t understand how they’re being allowed to charge for a service that they are not properly providing.

R/V's built today and the last few years are junk. All the manufacturers build them with the cheapest materials possible. When you have to get a R/V inspector to inspect your new R/V at the dealership you know your in trouble. Don't expect when it breaks down your dealer will fix it in a timely manner-the qualified techs that the dealership have (maybe 1 or 2 at most) are so backed up you will be waiting months for any repair-your warranty will expire while waiting. My advice is DON'T buy an R/V unless you want a headache and you like spending money on repairs.

Liz, quick queston, correct me if I am worng, it appears that an independent inspector would not have picked up on any of these as at the time of purchase everything was working. Is this correct? Second question, would an inspector have been able to notice any frame issues? Thank you for a great channel and helping so many people.

There is no way I would take that fifth wheel back. With all of those problems, I can't imagine what else could happen. It's going to be one problem after another. I would want all of my money back that I paid for the unit, and also all of the money I paid for repairs. With that trailer, I would be constantly worrying about what is going to happen. Plus there is only a 1 year warranty. After the 1 year is up, you will be paying for some major repairs. That is one more expense to pay for. plus your monthly loan payment.

You wouldn't have much choice. Even if you sued them, there are very few states that have lemon laws, or regulations on manufacturers. You would likely lose.

I don’t think the floor is rotted, you won’t fall through..those floors are designed to float…expand and contract as weather and humidity change….you can’t lock the floor down with cabinets on top…floor needs 3/8” space all around..

Are RV companies putting themselves out of business? Looks to me like their days are numbered - they are doing it to themselves. There’s only a small group of people who can afford luxury RVs and words getting around fast!

It’s sad to watch people go through all these problems. The whole industry needs a revamp. Seriously. What went wrong & when? When did it become ok to sell garbage under the guise of being “great quality”? It’s either been slowly going down hill or something happened or someone bought these companies & they obviously do not care about their product. Yikes!

Sadly, "brand new" doesn't mean what it did 30 or 40 years ago. These days, it's all about the bottom line. Customers are often seen as little more than cash cows.
@LizAmazingСағат бұрын
So short sighted on their part. All it will take is for one company to treat their customers well and the others will either fall in line, or go out of business. Thanks for watching.

They paid for a NEW properly built unit. This unit will NEVER function properly. FR knows this and also knows their chances of a re-sale on this one is slim to none. Buy back would be the only offer I would accept. People simply must refuse to buy mass produced RV's from these huge corporations.

They used to make them solid, like tanks! I know lot of folks with RVs that are 10+ years old. I say, hang onto those! If you want to buy new, go for a small independent mfr who stands by their product, like I say in the video. Thanks for watching.

If there are frame issues, a buy back would be appropriate. So this brings me to my question for you, Liz: If no frame issues and they agree to fix the list of problems, is it worth it at this point to bring with them an independent inspector to make sure all the issues were handled correctly?
@LizAmazing2 сағат бұрын
That might be a possibility. I think they are really wanting a buyback because of all the other issues that are safety related though.
