Hey Liz, great information! Thank you for the work you are doing. My husband and I are currently "crawling" back to the lower 48s from Alaska in our 2021 Montana High Country 5th wheel. Long story short. Our 5th wheel (Lippert) frame is completely falling apart. We had it at a shop in Fairbanks for almost 2 weeks for repairs. The welders working on our 5th wheel said they have seen at least 25 campers this season with the same exact issue. They said it is due to poor welding on the frames. We took several videos and pictures for our insurance showing were welds were flawed. The crossbars failed between the I-beams which caused the I-beams to flex and caused the outriggers to fail. There is a lot more to all of it but as you can imagine, everything is falling apart inside and out. We never heard anything back from the manufacturer after they said they would get back with us. Blessed and thankful we noticed the problem before we started back down the Alcan.

After owning three different 5th wheels (and I don’t believe this is the problem on this particular RV), is that it is really, really, really easy to overload these vehicles so that a) the RV itself is not rated for the weight (don’t forget that a gallon of water weighs 8 pounds), and b) and more important, the tow vehicle is not rated for that weight. If I have any advice, it is this: weigh your combination vehicle before taking a trip. If you are overweight, shed some things that you know you will not need. I know I was way overweight at least one time-I smoked my truck brakes coming down from Wyoming to Denver. The same thing goes for class a and b motorhomes.

Lippert says they build the frames to the "Brands" specifications. That may be true, but they still have a responsibility to build quality that will work as intended. Some of those problem frames are so undersized, and without proper gussets, braces, and metal thickness too thin for the job and also probably not heat treated in areas where needed that some of the blame has to be on Lippert. Personally, I think they are a big problem in this industry. I now have a diesel pusher and couldn't be happier. EVERYTHING is heavy duty compared to any trailer.

What would it have taken to have a shop vac sitting along the line at some point to clean it up. No caring, no pride in the product. Sad.

If Grand Design had a floor plan that was like the Keystone travel trailer that we ended up buying i would… at the time went with a GD. With all the issues people are having now with their GDs im so glad i went with Keystone. Even after 2 years of using our Keystone heavily it has been rock solid except for some minor AC issues which GE handled right away. Not once have i had to bring my Keystone Bullet Premier back to the dealer for warranty repair. I have been extremely happy with our purchase. … knock on wood.

Totally agree with the couple, buy smaller and if you can find it better quality. All these videos make say by used 2016 or older. If they are still together they probably are ok. Still get an inspection.

There are many other KZbin channels that have your same RV and live in them full time. They travel constantly in them and don’t have problems.

I think one of the main problem with these rigs is they are building them too big for the frame. They’re trying to keep the weight down so they can be towed by non commercial trucks. We don’t see these frame issues with Luxe or Spacecraft which are made to haul with a commercial tractor and to be lived in full time.

I recently bought an older travel trailer (2010 Keystone Sprinter) and the thing is solid. The cabinet doors are real wood! I only paid $8500. No way would I buy anything made after 2019. I also have a 2017 Airstream. Also great.

Great video - our 2021 GD Solitude S-class 2930RL had frame issues. It was missing 6 out of 14 lag screws and had cracked wall plate sills on both sides. GD sent the SRT to our dealer and taught the dealer how to do the repairs. Our unit was welded and all of the missing bolts (overall over a dozen) were added. So far we have travelled from MD to Thousand Islands NY and back. Hoping the repairs hold but expect to have future issues (broken bedroom furniture, squeaking bedroom floor, rub marks on wall from frame pushing up on floor and furniture …) I added solar and lithium batteries to our camper when we bought it, so we have invested lots into it thinking this would be good into retirement. Now I do not have the confidence it will hold together. I spoke to Pete West and HBRV about our issues - Pete helped us navigate the process with GD and our dealer - took 2 months to have it repaired. Fingers crossed - BTW GD covered the repair costs fully - the frame warranty came out after our repair.

Don’t think a bus will be problem free. Busses have intertwined systems that if one system fails multiple systems fail down line.

Never brought a new rv and probably never will. In fact, my 1st rv 1986 Toyota dolphin r22 engine. Never had any problems and I purchased it in 1999. My 2nd rv 34ft chieftan 1984, which I purchased in 2001. Never had any problems and drove it from Seatle to Miami in 5 days. Yes, both did full tune up, brakes, and tires. On chieftan also did shocks as well. In 2009, I got 1990 Ford e250 fiesta class b rv used it no problems until I sold it last month. Better off buying used, let new original owner do warranty repair then buy at 5yr old mark and invest savings into repairing

RV dealers need to be regulated and manufactures. A lemon law is needed. Grand design should do the right thing by back the fifth wheel for what you paid for it or replace it with a brand new one I can relate to the issues you’re having. i’m also having problems with the slide out on my fifth wheel.
@censoredeveryday33204 ай бұрын
That would put most of them out of business. I'm surprised RVs are still made in the USA given the high cost of parts and labor.
@terryjohnsen16894 ай бұрын
I totally agree with the comments made by this couple in that dealers sell a dream of a literal house and garage on wheels, and of course this can't be achieved structurely. As consumers we are use to buying things that just work and meet their design requirements, but clearly for new RV's this trust is in error and very costly in both time and money.
@thelifeandtimesofcrazypatr6994 ай бұрын
I found out from another youtuber. That the problems are not the manufacturer. The problem is with the supplier of all the parts they use to build the RV. The supplier is using cheap inferior products. I think you say limpert hope that's right.

Older toyhaulers are fine. I know folks with ones that are ten years old, solid for sure. It's a shame about the newer ones. You'd think they'd build them BETTER not worse. Thanks for being here, Bertram!

We had our 2020 351 Momentum repaired 5 times for frame related issues. It’s been a frustrating year for us. We also don’t feel confident in the repair, unfortunately, and they added so much weight for the repair, we have almost no carrying capacity now.

what the USA need is the same law we have in New Zealand: the Consumer Guaranty Act Tis act means that the goods need to be good/not break for the intended lifespan of the product. I have aside wall issue and the manufacture is replacing both sidewalls after 8 years. That's how it should be. Same with electrical stuff if it breaks after the warranty periode it still needs to be fixed or replace as the lifespan is much longer.
@jeffalvich94344 ай бұрын
IMHO, Kudos to the mfg and everyone involved for jumping on this to make it right. IMHO, the mfg engineers with the tech (and the frame mfg) would have certainly been involved in coming up with the plan of how to correct the structural issues...... not only what to fix by how it can be effectively fixed and also look at future potential issues. IMHO, I'm betting your trailer's structure is more robust than anyone else's similarly sized/capacity and once you have a few good trips, you will gain confidence in your trailer and I think you have a real possibility to have a trailer that will outlast your expectations. FYI- I would also get it weighed just for the heck of it although I'm sure you are well within specs.

I just bought a 2020 Grand Design Momentum 381m. It was garage kept and was in great condition, then I got home and started looking for Facebook groups to join and found all these Fran issues. So I went and looked at our new to us camper and of course it’s showing some of the signs of frame flex. I contacted GD Monday and they responded finally. I have to schedule a flame flex inspection at my nearest dealer which is Palm Beach RV. I’m still waiting for them to respond so I can schedule it. I have 5 kids and they were looking forward to camping in the rv. 🤷♂️

To the couple- if you buy a bus type of RV it's going to be hard to find someone to work on it and take a long time.. Also watch other KZbinrs they've had problems with some of the other brands you named that you thought would be better.
