10 years later, still very relevant. We have the exact same regulator he has here in our class C, and it was dialed up way too high (over 15 inches of water column), which was causing problems with our fridge running on propane mode. Adjusted the valve you pointed out and used a meter to ensure it was running at the proper pressure. Refrigerator works perfectly now. Thanks for your help!

Very helpful info. My dual tank regulator had water in around the diaphragm and was freezing when below 32 deg F causing my camper furnace to stop working late at night/early AM at the coldest part of the day. I didn’t know how the regulator worked until watching this video.

Should an RV Propane Range always have a two stage regulator? We bought a Dometic 3 burner with oven and it looks to have a small regulator inside it where gas line connects; nothing on thenreg to indicate pressure rating. Manual says NOTHING about hookups ;( Do I need anither Reg between 20# tank & the small regulator?

Glad to hear the video helped you out. I had never thought of high altitude application for the adjustment. Cheers...and thanks for posting.

I need the exact regulator that you used in your video! Everything I have seen online is backwards! The one that came with my used '89 Winnebago has the vent hole pointing at 9o'clock. Thank you, David Bozic 🚀

Thanks for the informative video. I turned on my new fully charged propane tank to quickly and the flow is not minimal. Tried light tapping with a hammer to dislodge the diaphram or high flow safety valve. no luck. I have a new one on order. I will try to turn the adjust screw clockwise and see if the flow increases before the new one arrives....great video

Thank you for the informative video. I am sure that is what is wrong with my travel trailer. Everything works with the propane except the heater. Everything points to the regulator. Now being in Anchor Point Alaska I hope I can find one near here. Maybe in Homer. Fish on!

Usually, when the regulator fails to some extent, it shows up on all the propane appliances (water heater, stove, fridge, and furnace). If all your propane appliances are working well and only the heater is failing, then I would suspect something wrong with just the heater. Good luck with that and let me know how it turns out.

I have a 2013 Heartland Cyclone. Mine had a 40 psi regulator on it. It started smelling like gas in the camper and I realized the Reggio was leaking heavily. It was a single stage. I replaced it with a single stage Low pressure regulator. It immediately started leaking again from the regulator as well. Should I replace it with a High pressure single stage regulator?

Thank you that was informative. Mine is leaking on the top, so the guy at the propane store said I had to replace the whole thing.

I have a Genrac 17 kw generator that is supposed to burn about 2.7 gallons of propane per hour. We recently had a hurricane come through and lost power requiring me to use it for about 14 hours. In that time, we burned about 100 gallons which definitely exceeded the 2.7 gallons per hour. Does this sound like a regulator issue? We did have the gas company come out and they didn't detect any leaks. When the generator is running I can definitely smell the gas, but not when it is off.

Great video! What happens if the pressure is turned up too high on the second stage regulator?
@GuyPresse
@GuyPresse 8 жыл бұрын
Those types of regulators max out at 13 or 14 inches of water column, so not much will happen really. But if you chose a wrong regulator that puts out 2 pounds of pressure (28 inches of water column), then you could end up damaging the workings of some appliances.

Guy, I have an issue that I cannot find a solution anywhere! My furnace started making a high pitched squeal. I have narrowed it down to the LP since it only squeals when LP is connected. Temp are lower here (30's), but no one else I know has this issue.

+Chase Hughes Chase, could be a few things. The most important (and dangerous one) being that there is a hole in the heat exchanger that prevents the proper air to propane mixture from being achieved and causing some problems. Some duo therm models are known to have problems with heat burning holes in the heat exchanger causing poisonous carbon monoxide gas to leak into the RV, as well as other problems. Another problem can be just insects (spider webs, or mud wasps, or certain types of flies) making homes in the furnace and prevent the proper flow of gasses. Sometimes just using a compressor to blow out the furnace will solve the issue. Blow out the heater exchanger from the exhaust and air intakes on the outside of the RV. Another problem I have seen often is burner jets that get plugged up a bit, but this requires removal of the furnace to repair, and high temp gaskets to be replaced. Another problem could be low gas pressure, and that can be adjusted at the propane regulator. You need a manometer to adjust the pressure correctly. Depending on how old your furnace is, replacing it can be another option. Good luck with that, and please let me know how you solve the problem. Cheers!

+Guy Presse thanks for the response! It is a Suburban SF35F model that is 16 years old, but with little use. I blew out the intake and exhaust (nothing came out) and removed the unit to inspect. The heat exchanger looked brand new still. I noticed what I believe to be a second regulator with a solenoid supplying only this furnace. This regulator looks alot newer than the original one behind it. I guess my next step would be to adjust the gas pressure? Thanks again!

Guy, FYI I replaced my regulator and everything works great again! No more screaming noise coming from my furnace! Thanks for your help.

I see your not from Arizona but with your years of RV experience I thought I would ask. I have a question based off a sales scenario. I buy 2016 Dutchman Voltage Fifth Wheel Toy hauler, 80K, Check. I walk through with "Highly knowledgeable Tech, check. I take trailer home and start camping, check. In the last year the dealer has had my RV longer than me. Norcold 1210 throwing No Flo code. I was told by dealer to shut off fridge, turn off propane, turn propane back on, light stove (as it functioned) and turn fridge back on. Check. After 8 or ten times doing this as the alarm kept us awake, I go home. RV at dealers 3 times and after third time I called Norcold. This is now 1 year later as we have only got to use it 3 times. Norcold asks me if I was camping over 5500 ft in elevation. I tell the why yes about 6500 to 7000 ft. I live in Arizona and it's 115 degrees why? I only bought it to camp north of 5500 ft., why? Well we can't guaranty the fridge will function over that. I replied. WTH? Two of the guys I camp and hunt with have the same trailer and fridge and they have not had a lick of trouble. She says, well I guess some work and some don't. What, I exclaimed! Anything else I can do for you she replies. I get the altitude thing but this is the 5th RV I've had with Norcold. No problems in altitude? What do I do? Pull it out and shove a Yeti in there? Does no one camp north of 5500 ft anymore? Don't they sell these nation wide? AAAaahhhh! Thanks for listening.
