I’m a RV technician and this is the best way to teach about the LP regulator. And the white cover that you remove is only needed if you don’t have the other cover
@silaslongshot9414 жыл бұрын
Your comment about LP / gas fittings working opposite to regular fittings, hardware, etc is correct. But, they give you a handy clue when the fittings work OPPOSITE hand to everything else. They cut little notches in the corners of the flats where you put your wrench so that by just looking closely they give you a heads up 'Hey, I'm different here, take note!' At 6:13 of your vid, there's a quick glimpse of those notched corners on the fitting you just removed. That's the one where you turn RIGHT to loosen and LEFT to tighten.

Thanks for the how to video, late this afternoon I smelled something, yes propane, from my drivers side coach window, class c Minnie Winnie. Yes there is a RV mechanic in town but why not check youtube for a how to do it yourself. Since I'd already installed on 2 different rigs the extenda stay I figured I could try this myself. It's 915 PM, I'm going to google the closest tractor supply and or other rv parts places. I'll reply back tomorrow how the job goes. FYI, I'm 67, full timing for 5 years and currently isolating in place on 5 ac in western Nevada that I bought a year ago. I have solar so the fridge is running off of that system overnight. Thanks again.

If you smell propane, it might be a good idea to have someone check for leaks as well. Also, be sure you have an in date propane alarm as well. Let us know how it went.

@@Henleyshappytrailsplus 60 miles to the closest tractor supply, Carson city. Of course had to visit home depot, whole trip less than 4 hours, 1+ to make the fix. But also had a leak on the extenda stay, so removed it, tested all of the fittings with the leak detector liquid and yippee no bubbles. The fridge overnight to noonish took my batteries down to where they had never been, 71%. But with clear blue skies at 4300 ft elevation they are already back up into the high 80's. Thank you very much for your video, now I'll head back to watch others you had posted.

Perfect instructions - used this video to replace 2 stage regulator on my 2002 Monaco Class A when some of the LP systems started misbehaving. Works good as new!

Great video thanks. On some models there is a ‘drop tube’ which I believe captures the oil from the propane. Mr. Heater makes a propane filter, I wonder if that would be a good idea to include in the setup, as long as we maintain the filter...
@Henleyshappytrailsplus4 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried the filter idea. Our propane piping is much higher then the regulator, so most oil stays in the trap made by the piping. But I might take a look at the filter.

Excellent video! I love the wife’s commentary💕 you explained very well and saved me $250 that they wanted to charge for this, they had told me it was easy to change but I needed a special tool to check the pressure... I hate that they would lie like that. Thank God for good videos like yours to confirm my gut feeling that he was full of it.

Thanks our tank is full but pressure is low and goes out. Gonna give this a shot lots of stuff I read said it could be regulator. I installed the ez tee before and was pretty sure this was how it worked but this gives me confidence I can do it.

I installed the gas stop and am wondering if that could be the reason I am not getting gas to the stove, water heater and furnace. I'm going to change the regulator. That may solve everything.

Good job sir! It’s really pretty simple with a few adjustable wrenches. I heard Mr Bubble bubbles easier than dish soap, no matter as long as you check for leaks.

I am new to having a motorhome. Everything was working but I noticed yesterday I went to turn my propane on outside and I could smell propane so I shut it off and the smell in a way I am wondering what I am going to need to replace do you have any clues? I’m not even sure where to take it to get it fixed. If I can’t do it your videos or at least the one I watched are very informational and I enjoy them.

The oil often is the result of the decay of the black line interior. It is a petroleum product and breaks down with the propane over time.

I used 2 overlapping Simpson Strong-Tie TP 3-1/8 in. x 7 in. 20-Gauge Galvanized Tie Plates. I drilled a hole in them so I could secure them with a bold using the holes that once had a plastic snap holding the regulator cover on I had to use 2 because one wasn't wide enough. It's not the prettiest thing possible, but it has worked. I moved my cover back and took a photo showing the bolts I used. Https://henleyshappytrails.com/temp-page Hope that helps and Happy trails. :)

Nice video very detailed. My regulator is leaking from a small pinhole on the smaller round section of the unit. Don’t know the cause of why gas is leaking, but will need to change.

Thank you very much for your video. I send you my regards from Spain with my RV Thor Pinnacle. This week I ordered the same regulator, Mr Heater, through Amazon. I have mounted it as you have done, but I get gas from the ventilation vent, and that only occurs when the demand for LPG from an RV device stops. It is totally new, so I don't understand what happens. I have done the same steps as you. A greeting and I wait for your answer.
@Henleyshappytrailsplus3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Sorry to hear of your issue. I'm not a propane technician, just a fellow RVer who has changed a regulator or two. So I can only give you my best guesses. First spray the entire regulator with soapy water or leak detecter pray to make sure the leak is coming from a vent and not a hose. If the leak is definitely coming from the vent... The vents main purpose is to allow air in and out so the diaphragm can move in and out to regulate pressure. Since you are not getting a leak when propane is feeding a device and you are when the device shuts off, my first guess is a bad or cracked diaphragm. If this is the case, the new regulator is defective. Bottom line, your regulator should not be venting propane. If it is coming out of the vent, assume the regulator is defective first. My advice would be to shut the propane off and not run it until it's replaced with another regulator. Another option would be to take the new regulator into a propane service location and they could probably test it. But again, if it's leaking propane out the vent, it's not safe to use until the regulator is replaced or the leak is resolved. I checked the reviews for the mr heater two stage propane regulator, and there were a few people that got a faulty one that leaked. So it appears to be rare, but possible that it was bad out of the box. Here is a great video the explains the propane regulator function and will help make sure the regulator you got is the correct one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKLGhWmIZs6Yjrs I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll try to answer them the best I can. Stay safe, and let me know how it turns out. Thanks for watching.

Thank you very much for your quick response. Yes, I have taken apart an old regulator and see what the diaphragm system looks like. Also yesterday I saw the video that you attach for the mechanism of a regulator Of course, I do not currently use LPG in my motorhome, nor will I turn it on until I look at it at my automotive LPG workshop. My only doubt is that it is very rare that the previous regulator, with only two years, expelled gas through the ventilation grille, and this new Mr Heater, as soon as it was connected, too. I'll keep you informed. A greeting from Spain.

Great video - tried the fix with a new propane regulator but gas isn't coming to the stove .. any ideas? You mentioned an air bubble in another comment .. how do I know if it's an airbubble?
@Henleyshappytrailsplus4 жыл бұрын
If the gas has not gotten to the stove yet, you could try turning a burner on and holding a long lighter near the burner. If it's air it should eventually work itself out. If your water heater, and propane fridge work, the stove should work. If all is not working and the regulator is new, it could be something else blocking it. I once had an external tank that was overfilled and wouldn't work.

Thanks for watching. If the tanks is full it's usually one of three scenarios. 1. The regulator 2. Overfilled tank 3. There is an air bubble or pocket in the line Thanks again

Hello thanks for this video I learned something today. But see I have a food truck and was told by the propane guys I needed a bigger regulator so I took it in to get changed and still no propane is coming thru. One guy went out to check the regulator and he put some kind of plug to check the gas I was coming through and I think it was at 16 but then he went inside because I have an Ansell system and check the lines under the oven unplugged one and there is still no gas coming through so he said that maybe the box of the Ansell system was not letting nothing come through which I don’t know why that would happen but looking at your video it might be the lions worth all that oil and gas collected I’m going to go out today and see if that is set up so the gas can leak down but thanks for this video .What do you think could be the problem please let me know. Have a great day

No pipe thread or putty on brass flared fittings. They should be used on any propane fitting when the threaded end of the pipe or fitting is flat-not flared. Also, any fitting that threads directly into the regulator

You have moisture in the old regulator especially using the spray that contains water instead of alcohol or soap and water I have come across this many times and one way to check is take a hair dryer and heat up the regulators, do not use hot water or open flames i cannot stress that enough, if after heating with hair dryer the flames are normal and blue than moisture is in the regulator and can cause catastrophic failure, best way still is to replace the regulator its very hard to get all the moisture out unless you pretty much take it apart then you still have a chance of the rings and seals not seating properly, and if the flames are still week after heating with hair dryer than its failure in the regulator and still needs to be changed immediately, again best way to avoid is using gas leak detectors thats not a water soap mix they have many of them on the market that work great I always use a digital doctor and do a pressure check just in case with gauges.
