I love the fact that with this propane subject - you take the time to repeat issues and do's & Don'ts with respects myths and the over all workings of the regulators. I appreciate you taking the time too DRILL IT in our heads as to what and how the regulators really work!! No doubt you are saving people a lot of trouble...damage & most likely lives!! Thank you for all the work you put into this...greatly appreciated!!

The #41 hole for the 50% load test, does that correspond to a hole made with a #41 drill bit. I know this may be obvious to some but I'd rather confirm this with you. Thank you again.

Hi, Thank you for such expert advise. I am still having trouble on my ice fishing house. (The season is almost upon us!) The fish house has an Atwood stove/oven and the burners are "pulsing" when I light it. Last winter the flame completely shut off and I couldn't light the range until i warmed up the tanks and regulator. Prior to the ice fishing season, I had the pigtails disconnected for most of the summer. Could moisture/humidity gotten into the regulator and iced up when the temps dropped? Is it an oil issue? I have replace the tanks in the mean time and even in the summer weather, the flame on the range pulses. You had mentioned that the lines need to be "blown" out. How do I do that. Thank you so much for all your help, I need to be able to make coffee this winter you know!! Keith

Great video! But, if I understand you correctly, the outside vent to one side of the main regulator diaphragm allows changes is atmospheric pressure to “adjust” the flow of propane going downstream, thus giving one the proper flame size, and thus the proper heat? Also, we have had our travel trailer’s regulator changed out twice due to being noisy, and it still squeals or makes little popping sounds. We turn off our water heater at night so that it’s quieter. Ugh.

The regulator we bought for our pop up doesn’t have a vent. We do have a heater, hot water tank and stove. We also have a stove connection on the outside. Two size hoses and my husband had to get brass fittings to adapt that. We’re going to use it for the first time next month. 1993 Fleetwood. What are your thoughts?

Great info. A class on all propane related, how exciting. I recently was researching the difference between single and 2 stage regulators. I lost the propane hose with regulator to my Champion 4500 watt generator, which I haven’t used yet. Unsure of what type of regulator and hose size would be required? Please help!

I’d go with a two stage regular so you are sure that you have enough juice so to speak to fuel up everything and to be able to hold up to that size of a generator as well ! Okay ! Ty hon hope that helps

This was an awesome video. I’ve subscribed to your Patreon for about a year now. I am wondering though if there is more to the oil in the lines than just the pigtail leaching oil into the system. I’ve had a couple of customers with a decent amount of oil that filled the regulator and was up the line. It still definitely could have just been the leaching, but I’ve read in a few places that tanks being overfilled is the lead cause of oil in the lines. I’ve also heard that bad batches of propane where too much additive for smell was added can cause oil build up. I’m curious what your thoughts are?

I would have thought someone would have asked about the effect of traveling/staying at altitudes above a mile. Is it presumed the diaphragm adjusts to varying heights?

Good evening I have a question I think you can help me with. I have a westinghouse wgen 12000DF generator and it already has a pressure regulator on it from the factory. I purchased a camco Propane Double stage auto-changeover regulator thinking i could connect it to my 2 60 pound tanks. It will not run on propane because its not getting enough propane. Can the pressure be raised on the changeover regular to allow more propane to flow through the second regulator normally to run.

I have an older (30 years) class c and it has no cover over the regulator. I’m getting ready to replace it but do they sell the covers somewhere or can I just use a plastic box or something to cover it? Also, my tank reads full but there’s nothing in it. Of course it ran out halfway through a meal. They couldn’t fill the tank because it read full. Do you think it’s a float problem or a gauge/sender problem? The whole thing is annoying. I haven’t been able to use my propane system for over a year now. They put a domestic fridge in it so I don’t need propane for that at least but I’m looking to boondock next month and it’s going to be chilly without a furnace running.

please be careful of the abbreviated (short-cut) units of measurement in a tutorial wow psi == pounds‐force per square inch unit of measurement. 1 psi = 16 ozf/in^2 (ounces-force per square-inch) 6 ozf/in^2 = *0.375 psi* pick one. 6 ozf/in^2 = 10.38 "wc Your temperature may vary!
@ewicky
@ewicky Жыл бұрын
10.38" WC is darn close to the 11" WC rating of appliances. It would technically be 6.36 ozf/in2. Which, once rounded, is 6. The PSI ratings that he focused on in the video were tank pressure and an intermediary 10 PSI between the primary and secondary regulators. Since they are part of the same assembly, the 10 PSI is not accessible to the user. Translating it to different units is not relevant and your bolded "0.375 psi" is pointless. Why ask him to "pick one"? The unit of measure changes, depending on the magnitude of the pressure and the application. This is fine and relevant, since tanks, pigtail hoses, fittings, and inputs are specified in PSI, but appliance nameplates and burners are specified in inches-WC. Regulators do a magnitude conversion, in this case, resulting in a change in units. A baker may pay their water bill in centi-cubic-feet, but they measure that very same water in cups or even fl oz. The facet is "a regulator" in the analogy. This isn't rocket science. Sure, a chemist would be annoyed with units change. But a good instructor like the gentleman in the video keeps things relevant to his students by using industry terms. The number of times I've heard BTU's misused is insane. Even on official manufacturer spec sheets. But guess what? We all know they mean "BTU/hr" so it's fine.
@jamesalles139
@jamesalles139 Жыл бұрын
@@ewicky Thanks for the discussion - _that_ is my point. I agree on the BTU unit misuse as well - it made me pause looking at ratings of regulators, as I needed a higher flow rate for a medium size portable generator. The regulator I got my hands on states "140,000 BTU capacity" - huh? that's it? 140k and it shuts down? So many safety mechanisms built-in, it is hard to get any work done!
