just a few suggestions, go on the sun room. use spray foam insulation on the ceiling, we used it works EXCELLENT. on the walls go on craigslist and look for insulated windows. change out the window area making area for more insulation in between the windows. Then use solid foam insulation, We used 3.3 inch solid foam works GREAT. As for the floors put in a raised floors and rebuild yourexterior doorto match new floor level, and insulate the floor put plywood over top and carpet pad and thick carpet. Or just put in the thick carpet pad on the floor with thick carpet. You then could put in a full sized wood stove in the room use fans to distribute the air. Good Luck.......We have done very similar with a 12x32 prefab shed works perfect. GOD's blessings

Elizabeth is a doll (and make sure she sees this) and thank her for being in the video! I love the concept. We are "downsizing" from 2400 sq. feet to about 1800 sq. feet...the reason why we kept the extra rooms is for when our kids come back from school. From there I hope to downsize even further (as the kids get settled into their own lives.) As we prepare to move, I am doing a lot of paring down -- moving photos onto discs (so we don't have containers of photos), getting rid of cookware, clothing (shoes are going to be hard!) and other things we just don't use. I bet it's been fun in that little kitchen "bumping" into one another! Congrats to you for making a bold and smart move to simplify your lives; hopefully you can cut back on your hours and do the things you and Elizabeth really enjoy -- traveling, gardening, reading...just spending time together. Thanks for sharing your life with us! Looking forward to your next update. -Bethany :-)

B Smith This is Elizabeth. Thank you so much! You're a sweetie! This has been quite a journey for us. Years ago I designed our big house and put in plenty of storage areas, closets, etc. and then proceeded to spend 10 years filling them all up! It has been a long process whittling down to what we love and especially what we need the most. I still have some remaining sorting and organizing to finish, but I'm finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel! (My issue isn't clothes, it's books...many of them I read over and over. I can't afford to replace them all electronically.) I'm finding it all is very freeing once I started just letting go of stuff. I really enjoy that I can thoroughly clean this place in about an hour. That's cool! I really pray that you can simplify your lives, too, in the way that works best for your family! :-D
@DesertBeth9 жыл бұрын
Bill Keller Elizabeth, oh my goodness..mine is books too! However, I don't read them over and over; I collect them with PLANS to read them. So my challange is (I have about a year) to pare down my collection to at least half. (I've been working on it for a couple of years now, so half is a LOT less than what I had.) I am trying to read more because once I read the book once, I typically give it away. I think I will also have a problem with my pictures in frames and artwork. It's funny because both of our kids are away for this month and we literally do not go near that side of the house so I know I won't miss that space. My physical photos are being moved to digital format ...and I have a closet full of Ebay items to sell so thanks for the prayers and encouragement. What's helped me is remembering we can't even bring our Bibles to heaven with us so this stuff is just that: stuff (oh, and watching the show "Hoarders." That show will make you want to throw out everything!) Blessings to you, sweet lady. With love, Bethany :-)
@LiveSimpleLiveFree9 жыл бұрын
DesertBeth That show really helped me understand a hoarder I know. (As well as motivate me not to collect more than I need of anything!) You are right, the only things going with us to Heaven are people. They are what really matter! God bless your whole family! ;-)

This is my first time watching your channel. Stumbled onto it when I was looking for some Christian songs to listen to. I like the way you have thought everything out. But most of all I love the way you trust the Lord. My husband and I are retired and have moved to CA from Nebraska to be near our daughter and her family. You must live where it gets really cold like NE. I remember those first snows each winter. We lived along a river as our back yard and had another lot across the road with a lake. When I heard the birds singing ( on here) and saw the room you had for a yard I thought how blessed you must feel to live away from confusion and noise. I truly miss all the wild life. Big sky NE I watched your long video first about losing everything and having a stroke. I am glad, Elizabeth that you are doing so well and are healed by the Lord's mighty hand. How very cozy your tiny home must feel. What more can you ask for. Our pastor always said prosperity was having a roof over your head, food on the table, and clothes on your back and enough left over to give away. You have all this, and put together really well. I am looking forward to watching more videos on here. God bless you both and your tiny house. ((Hugs))

Hello, My name is Shannon. Isn't it crazy how almost 2 yrs ago before you had this little house and coming from your other full size home you almost felt like "what are we going to do or better yet, how are we going to do it"? In the long run after everything has been done "I have to commend both you on what a wonderful job you both did to make this one cozy cute adorable debt free home" through all the bad and ugly it always turns out even better than you could have ever imagined! The man up above has his ways of not only proving us wrong at times but more importantly these things only happy for a reason. Now like you both have said, you are extremely happy, debt free, and have a permanent home without the worries of ever having to go through something like this again! Happy and relieved that everything has turned out so well for you guys. I've been wanting to ask so I guess it's a good time to ask, have you ever thought about (in the near future or ever) somehow making the screened in porch more insulated etc. to be able to comfortably use it year out? Forgive me in advance, I'm a female (37 yrs old) that being said I don't know too much about what it takes to do all that type of construction lol.. I know it prob takes a lot more than just Windows etc. if this were me (again, I'd have to discuss this with my husband and all) but replacing the Windows there and getting full length double pane Windows, insulating or some how placing some type of new roof since it's a tin roof so in the winter time/ summer adding one of those electric units on the wall to run both heat and air cond. I thought I'd Atleast ask if you guys ever thought that would ever be in the plans? Thank you so much for all your videos so us (all your followers) can be part of your jou

Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words, and for your prayers. About the sunroom, I would love to insulate and winterize it. But because of the way it's built, that's not really possible. Without going into all the details, the only way to do it would be to tear it down and start all over again. Besides, it would be nice to have year round, but we don't really NEED it. We just enjoy it in the summer when we can.
