I'm sure you know/understand this, but you also need to log as "On Duty" when you are hooking up and prepping your load for transport and during delivery. That being said; if I'm at my delivery point and I'm waiting for the dealership to start the checked in, I log as "Off Duty" while I wait. You did a decent job explaining the topic of when to log off to save your 70 hour clock. I don't think the logging process is explained well enough in most of the Transport Companies' orientation.

Thanks for sharing. No one taught me either. I accidentally swipe and saw those hourly break downs and the heavens parted. Took me three months. I appreciate the videos.

So just because I’m curious. Since the 14 hour clock keeps ticking how do you reset it if you have a short day? Like say your on duty for 6 hours and for whatever reason you stop for the day. Do you have to wait out the 14 and then the 10 or does being off for 10 reset the 14?

Your 10 hour reset starts as soon as you go off duty. And that happens sometimes when you get to your delivery location let's say at 5 PM but they are closed. So you go off duty and your reset clock starts immediately. Then you can go shopping for food or whatever for the evening and it doesn't count against your time

Don't forget the 30 break you have to take which you record as off duty. I will not talk about how they are recording fuel stops that last 30min now

@@TravelinTim Drivers must take a 30-minute break when they have driven for a period of 8 cumulative hours without at least a 30-minute interruption. The break may be satisfied by any non-driving period of 30 consecutive minutes. Which is recorded as 30min off duty you would never record it as not driving that would be shooting yourself in the foot

@@TravelinTim Not yet. Thinking about Indiana or Synergy at this point. Does your company have a load board you can view?

Oh and technically anything you are doing in the fuel stop that can be see as work related; i.e. getting the fuel receipt, buying anti gel, oil buying mud flaps, is considered work related and is supposed to be recorded as on duty time. When im at the fuel stop i go in get the receipt and that stuff on duty to be safe. If im going to spend less then 5 minutes getting a pop or any snack and the "work" stuff i stay on duty to keep it easy on me. Now if i stop at a rest area for a bathroom break, if im gone more then 5 ill go off duty less then 5 I'll stay on. Every time i get out i do a walk around which is considered "work" i personally saw a state trooper write up a driver for doing a walk around checking his lights while he was off duty in a rest area. Thats why i will stay on duty that way im safe.

That was a good video thanks. I drive for Wave and have a low mileage 2000 7.3L F350 that is at home how did you get them to let you use yours for transporting. I am currently driving a 2020 ram 3500 and would like to let the ram rest and use the good old 7.3L.

You can extend your 14 hour clock with the use of the 7/3 or the 8/2 hour splits. Basically if you go off duty for minimum of 2 hours, then finish your work then do a full 8 hours off duty you're safe for the 8/2 hour split. 7/3 is the same thing as that example. I have done this but they can get confusing and i don't really recommend doing them often.

I learned this several decades ago and after watching your video, i now know why... LOL All in knew is to be very skimpy with my on duty and driving time. Recapping is a whole new animal if you really do some heavy duty driving...
