I knew I wasn't able to use my current hitch setup off my F150 for the taller F250. This video covers what I had to do..

6:30 exactly the issue I had this weekend! 3" wont make much difference... Um, yeah it does. Sway crazy downhill as the trailer pushed. The Blue Ox setup just did not have enough drop on a vintage Spartan just like you had issues with. I'll be picking up a deeper drop just like you have here to get level!!! A hundred thank yous for sharing your experience with this issue!

Just returned from Camping World (yeah, I know). Took 3 hours trying to install EAZLift R3 recurve to Grand Cherokee for KZ Escape Mini and they concluded "trailer is to low"... I have 4" drop hitch and alignment is perfect but wanted sway control w/o having backing up issues. Wound up with friction sway bar, EAZ Lift, to install myself. Not too thrilled.

I think the increased spring tension you were feeling is because the F250 hitch receiver is more level. In the back to back picture, the rake on the F150 caused the hitch receiver to angle upward. Installing the hitch in the F250, and keeping the same adjustments on the head would result in an increased hitch head angle with respect to the trailer. Also, I've always set my spring bar tension based on how the weight is transferred in the tow vehicle by measuring the wheel wells, never by measuring the distance between the spring bars and the ground.

+talleddie81 Good point. That definitely would cause a difference.. That F150 with helpers always had a slight rake to it definitely more than this F250. I measured the bars from the ground based on the instructions but in addition to that, on the F150, I measured wheel wells. I started with the bar/ground measurement on this installation However, this Heavy Duty F250 doesn't hardly budge, if at all with or without WD bars hooked up. Since shooting this video a few days ago I have scouted some of the forums talking about this subject. What is being said is that there's a difference on how most people set up bars between a 1/2T VS 3/4Ton. They put more tension on the spring bars with the 1/2 ton but on the 3/4 ton when the truck is lifted and the bars are ready to be "snapped up" they set the angle of the head so as they can push or kick the chains tight on the saddles(very little force).. That makes sense as I don't think this truck needs near as much help as the F150 did.. I am going to tinker with the settings a bit more but I have to get new shocks on the truck as to see what I can get away with when backing off the tension from what it is now.. thanks for the insight/comment..

one thing to factor in on p/u trucks from one to another even on same brand is rear end ratios,can look them up with build tag in glove box
@Rvdaydream
@Rvdaydream 7 жыл бұрын
Chad Bush Good tip.. I know GM is really good putting build tags in glove boxes and on the spare tire covers in the cars But, other than the door jamb on these Fords the only way to confirm your axle ratio is on the axle tag.. Even then you need to make sure that the tag is original to the differential..

I call b.s. on the new shank only being down... 90 degree structural integrity is what it is, whether you're pushing or pulling

I agree that the new shank can go either way. The support webbing that braces the vertical is strong enough either up or down. If the metal were thinner, I may say opposite. Ideally, the hitch should go straight out and the receiver should be at the correct height to correspond to the trailer, but that would be in an ideal world that we don't quite have.

Thanks I have the same issue my trailer is doing a wheelie as you put it and that's at the lowest point on the shank. Thanks will order a longer one any idea what length should I get . My hitch looks about the same height as yours . Thanks will sub to you

Thanks for sub... You would need to measure to find out what drop you need... The description has a link to the shank I ended up using..

Are the springs on the camper under or over the axle? My 97 camper was under, bought new perches, welded, placed springs on top, problem fixed.

One of the benefits of having this short low trailer is it's low center of gravity and low profile to make Towing it a dream.

@@Rvdaydream totally understandable, but my back end wld drag more than i cared for and feared ripping off a stabilizer jack or black tank valve.
@Rvdaydream
@Rvdaydream 5 жыл бұрын
@@houladog we are just careful... We don't tow into uneven areas and cross approach steeper than normal aprons... But we still slightly drug are rear bumper two times. I did a video installing the stabilizer jacks on the RV and showed how they are to be mounted as not to come into contact with the ground. Are dump valve s in front of the axle so other than objects may be just randomly being in the road I couldn't really damage that stuff. But then again random stuff in the road will damage any RV no matter how tall it is. It's all academic at this point because on the 26th we're picking up our brand new RV and it's taller as is our new truck.

Hensley design will be in the future I'm sure But justifying a $2000 hitch on a $4000 truck pulling a $4000 trailer that weighs 6000lbs less than what the truck is rated and only towing less than 4000 miles a year.. Maybe a bigger trailer and more miles being towed.. Right now, for my setup, it would be like taking an elephant gun quail hunting.. But they are nice..
