We have been looking at what works best for us in small travel trailers for over a year. We have settled on the Rove Lite 14 FD as we know someone that bought the FL model towing it with their 2015 Toyota Four Runner getting around 18 mpg below 65 mph. This was one of the big factors in buying a travel trailer as we planned on towing ours with our 2014 Tacoma 4x4 four door pickup with a cap over the pickup bed. We liked the bed/dinette in the front and the shower/toilet in the back as we put a real mattress full time in that area. We bought a small collapsible table to eat at the couch. It works for us best this way. With the trailer loaded up and the pickup loaded with two more propane tanks, folding barbecue, 30 by 58 inch folding table, two comfortable camp chairs and a plastic storage box with goodies, we have everything we need for several week cruise. We have only done one 2 1/2 week trip thus far but every thing worked out great. We live in the Lake Tahoe area and have to wait for June to travel again but have made many planned trips in the future. The only thing I had to buy that didn't come with it was a spare tire for the trailer which also is stored in the pickup bed.

We have a "mcmansion" but we are fulltimers. We started in a small camper and when we went fulltime we knew we needed the room. We loved our little weekend and vacation camper but I won't give up my king-size bed, bath and a half or washer and dryer.

I think I’m leaning more towards the first one, it’s just me and the wife and an adult special needs daughter, so we don’t really need the bunk beds, definitely don’t want the one with the toilet in the shower, plus I’m really trying to go as small as I can, used to have large travel trailers ( 24’ a 26’ and a 34’) when the kids were little, don’t need that much now. Thanks for the reviews and keep up the good work

I learned about the KZ 130RBSE on this channel several years ago. After looking at one in person, I decided it was the perfect trailer to tow behind my Jeep Wrangler on 3-5 day trips, so I bought one. I'm 6'2, so anything with a short RV length bed is too small. At 82", the KZ is more than long enough. I can also stand up in the shower if I keep my head in the roof vent area, which has worked out perfectly for me. Mine has the propane/120 volt absorption refrigerator, which does have a freezer compartment that will freeze my water bottles solid. The one in the video either had a 120 volt only refrigerator, or possible a 12 volt compressor model. Mine is a 2020 and a 120 volt only refrigerator was standard. I like the overhead microwave, which is a new feature. I have a small microwave I put on the counter. When traveling, I throw it on the bed. This trailer has storage galore, which I've never managed to fill up yet. For short trips, the KZ is perfect and can be towed with any vehicle that has a 3500 lb tow capacity or more.

All these small campers should have is a queen bed, a toilet and shower, and a kitchen. No dinette, so extra beds, so sofas... I think a decent sized refrigerator is a must. If you have extra room then I would do a computer desk. With the prices they charge now a days they should have a minimum of 500w of solar panels and a minimum of a 5KW battery (doubling both would be even better). Have all the appliances and heaters be electric then too. Taking out the dinette they always want to include gives you so much more space for a larger shower and a larger refrigerator. A small washing machine and spin dryer for cleaning cloths is also nice. They make small portable ones for RVs that work great. Then hang them up to dry them the rest of the way. A good awning is also a must... good. I think they should have the option of mosquito netting to close them in and LED lighting. I think the steps should have a shoe brush on the side of the first step too.

I would like to see 12 volt fridges and either a cassette or composting toilet in a small camper. Also would like either twin beds or a bed that does not sleep across the trailer so you don’t have to climb over someone to go to the bathroom or to get up before the other person. I know that might be difficult for lack of room in these, but hate that setup!

KZ....Love the fact that the bathroom is where the entrance door is that way if you are using your trailer for you and guests and you are mostly outside of the trailer, you don't have to tread the length of the trailer every time someone has to use the bathroom. The others don't have that feature. Also love the bathroom in the KZ but no ice tray sucks. I like the netted upper storage in the Rove.Keystone bed looks decent but don't like the sink/stove area with no prep area. Keystone bathroom is decent. Puma..decent bed with good under storage. Nice kitchen set up. Fridge is nice and bunk beds are nice with usb ports. 5 foot 6 in the shower sucks. The winnebago's sink is too small along with the fridge. Decent bunks and bathroom. Overall for the price i like the KZ best.

I'd highly suggest people look into the Keystone Passport SL 199ml. Dry it's around 4,200 lbs. Pretty small camper at just under 23 feet long. Totally can be towed by an suv or halfton truck with ease. Has a bathroom with a door for privacy. Shower tub combo. Tub is good for a kid. Storage in bathroom. Fold down queen size bed with clothing closets on both sides of the bed. U shaped dinette that slides out (this is the only slide out the camper has). Can be converted into another bed for guests or children. Pretty big country style metal sink with detachable sprayer faucet. 5 windows, 3 skylights 1 with a fan in the bathroom. 32inch flat screen TV with shelving underneath. Domestic fridge and freezer. Furrion oven with 3 burner stove top. Inside and outside speakers. Highpoint microwave. Front pass-through storage. Outside shower. Electric jack and stabilizers so nothing has to be cranked manually. It's a great camper for a couple or for people that don't want to go big or are limited by their tow vehicle but still want to get a lot of features packed into their camper design and layout. Never once had an issue with that camper as wife is a travel nurse and we used it a ton. But now that we have a 3 year old and 2 dogs I need ny recliners to relax and she needs her space lol so we upgraded to a Keystone Outback 328rl with dark brown leather seating. It's amazing. Huge difference though. Going from 22 feet to 38 feet in length and basically doubled the weight. Buy I highly recommend people look into the Keystone Passport lineup for small campers.

Well Mike & Susan, I think this along with your other videos are just great. I love the fact that if someone follows your blogs, you cover everything from beginner to experienced, from basic couple trailers up to 5th wheel and class C, something for everyone. This gives me some good ideas for trailers with a bathroom "which my wife will appreciate" that I can pull with my Nissan Frontier. Don't let the haters get you down, I think you try to include All Types of campers with All Types of budgets. Keep up the good work, it gives me something to look forward to during winter mixed with a little covid.

In regards to the KZ Sportsman, I like that more companies are leaving out the TV. I personally don't want it or a radio. I would rather bring my own portable entertainment and speaker.

I have a question for anyone who wants to answer it for me. Do people actually worry about having a TV in these little trailers? And do they worry about where it gets mounted and who can watch it easily etc? I just never thought of watching TV while camping. I honestly thought one of the reasons for going camping was to get away from things like TV and internet and all that sort of stuff.
@jtidema2 жыл бұрын
It depends. If you are going CAMPING, agreed. If you consider it your moving hotel room because you don't want to keep unpacking on a long trip, visiting different people in different states... then it's nice to have it be more like home. If I was going to travel for a month, I'd like to watch some things - although a DVD player would be fine for me.

I like the Sportsman and the Rove best because of the light weight. I think my 3500 LB towing capacity could possibly tow it. Good storage and extra couch room for the dogs in the Sportsman! Like the Murphyish bed but Wish there were a couple more cabinet doors in the kitchen vs. all the cargo netting (gotta securely store food from the dogs! Wish the fridge was bigger w/freezer space in both units. If tow weight wasn't an issue I would choose the puma. I really like that white farmhouse decor. It really brightens up the interior and I appreciate the fact that it has a larger refrigerator. I could use the bunkhouse area for storage perhaps of my scooter that I would need to take around since I'm disabled. It would also be a good area for dog crates as well. What gives with the sink in the Winnebago? It makes the other sinks look large in comparison!!

I have a friend with the Rove Lite 14 BF model towing it with their Fourrunner getting close to 18 mpg on level roads. We bought the Rove Lite 14 FL with the dinette/bed in the front with a couch along the wall. Same weight and towed it with my Tacoma 4x4 four door short bed pickup 3500 lb tow capacity and got the same mpg as long as under 65 mph. We added an external 11 gal black tank as 5 gallons was not enough and an additional deep cycle battery. We only took it on one 2 1/2 week trip but everything worked fine even when we boon docked for a few days in the woods. We live in Nevada in Lake Tahoe area and can't wait for the snow to melt.

bought the 170MB a month ago. Love it. they didnt have a 130MB but the 170MB (Murphy bed) is still towable by our Dodge Caravan. KZ owners. Honestly if you look side by side the 170mb vs the 130 you will wind up with a 170 I think. Oh and If you figure out how bad that furrion 7200 stereo is. It is MONO and horrible. The Jensen JWM22 is a direct replacement. Even the mount holes line up. 100 dollars to solve your sound problem. I can see it is installed in the 130MB too.. ugh.. horrible radio

Let you know if you get the vinyl floors and they will be very slippery make sure you put mats down and well two-sided tape helps it helps keep the mats down on the floor porch it’ll also make it easier for you not to slip and fall because you don’t want that when I first got my camper seven years ago I slipped and fell on it that’s why I have a shower chair now with holes in it and I have the legs from legs on the chair have Spray on rubber so they don’t create rust

My problem with most of these campers is you have to climb over each other to get in and out of bed. No thanks. Some one is gunna get hurt. As the smaller person, I’m pretty sure it will be me. My favorite small camper is the R Pod 172. I think they stopped making it though.. 1. The bunks are 42 inches wide which is more room per a person than a king size bed, which is 76 inches wide. They are 74 long, which is long enough for 6 feet tall man. 2. I can have a dedicated dinette and bed space. No folding couches or dinettes down for bed time. You can sit at the dinette while spouse is still sleeping. 3. 20K or less depending on upgrades. Or, it was 20 or less. I think RPod stopped making the 172 for 2022.

The prices for these are a bit ridiculous. They want $19,600 for that 1st tiny trailer, with NO freezer or room for small T.V.?!? Yeah, I think not. I paid $9,500 for my slightly used 29ft travel trailer. Going much smaller for my next one, though. I'd rather find an older, slightly used camper & make it completely solar. My plan is to do this in the next two years, as house prices are just out of control & it's just me & my dog. I've lived in "mobile" homes my whole life & love the minimalism. Not to mention I can just pick up & go wherever & whenever I want👍❤😎🐾 Thanks for the tours though

Thank you for this video, I apreciate the effort, am happy that I found your channel, I know nothing about RV and I am trying to inform myself before I open my wallet. But non of these small campers fit the bill. I think Manufacturers have got it wrong, the whole point of these small campers. Small travel campers are good for traveling people, you can get to places with these small units that you would not be able to go with a 5th wheel. So these travel comapers should be more of an open space, a gallery, big open windows so that you can be part of your surroundings. All those units feel like a cave, so claustrophobic. If you have such a big family that you need bunk beds, than you looking at the wrong size camper, it would be horrible to survive a rainy day indoors with so many people inside one of these mini campers. So, these mini campers should be designed for love birds, two people that are out an about exploring. They need to have a fixed full size bed that is always there at one end of the unit with plenty of windows. Even a sky window so you can see the stars when laying in bed. In the middle of the unit, have the bathroom on one side, hallway in the middle, and the inline kitchen on the other side. At the other end of the camper have a small two person dinet to sit, eat, conversade, browse the internet, watch TV, socialize, go over the day. No need for bunk beds, no need for such large dinets, you are not inviting the whole campground to come eat with you inside your mini camper. Instead make better use of your space to make larger living areas for one or two people. That is what I am looking for, open floor plan, lots of big windows, a fix bed that I don't have to make every night, and just small table to eat and use as my desk. But I am yet to find something with such floor plan and small enough that can be towed with an SUV or Small pick up truck.
