Truly enjoyed Nova Scotia when we went. Our destination was Fort Louisburg where my family came into from Paris in 1650. Found the people really nice.

My brother has been a baker there for 30 years ...sour dough bread is his job there ... and once a day, the guards come down and charge him for stealing a chicken and drag him off to the jail house , while he argues and screams he is not a thief all the way.

My friend (who hails from the province) once taught me how to pronounce Newfoundland by the fact that it rhymes with "understand" so "un'-der-stand New'-fund-land". I always love when I get to visit the maritimes (from Ontario)

Glad you got to experience a few different sights, sounds and tastes. It is great to watch these videos, sometimes we need a reminder of just how great it is here. My parents were big RVers and there really isn’t a part of Nova Scotia we didn’t touch, we even stayed on Oak Island! (Pretty sure you can’t do that now!).

About many businesses in Canada not accepting American Express credit cards...the fees AMEX charges retailers is quite high, that's just the fact. The place I work for out here in Vancouver BC won't even entertain the thought of accepting AMEX because of the sky high fees compared to Visa and Mastercard.

I loved Louisburg fortress
@dorisbetts3012
@dorisbetts3012 Жыл бұрын
The Fortress of Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island is one of the largest if not the largest historically accurate reconstructions in Canada, maybe even in North America. You could spend the day there exploring the property and its many buildings, learning the fascinating history, taking you back in time with costumed animators recounting daily life in within the fortress walls and beyond. The Old Town Trail on the road to the fortress tells even more history of the settlement and you can visit the beach where the English soldiers landed before capturing the Fortress from the French for the final time, changing the fate of Nova Scotia and the French presence in North America. Learn of the link with Louisianna and its Acadian French connection. Across the harbour is the amazingly beautiful Lighthouse Trail which winds its was along the wild, natural landscape . Stay at the Northstar Resort near the fortress, a newly renovated resort on the ocean owned by the Scottish tv personalities and designers known simply as "Colin and Justin". The food at their resort is amazing and they are there to entertain their guests along with local live musicians. The fortress itself played an enormous part in the history of the settlement of North America and it alone is worth visiting. Expect fog and cold conditions in some seasons as it is perched on the North Atlantic coast. Enjoy your stay!

Say "newfen"......now say "land". Put em together. That's how you say it. Nothing puts us off quicker than saying it wrong. "Not from around here are ya" is what they'll say to ya. If you get the pronunciation right they'll love you for it. Now I'm Newfoundlander living in Nova Scotia and I really enjoyed these videos. I've been here for almost 20 years now and this summer was by far.....and I mean by FAR, the worst summer I've ever experienced weather-wise. I hope you caught us during some of the decent days we had because there wasn't many. It's been such an unusual summer for us..... raining every other day just isn't the norm.

You NEVER mentioned the Seafood CHOWDER once .. I live in this place ... we LOVE our seafood chowder ...we are excellent at making out own because every restaurant that sells seafood chowder, fills it with a half gallon of milk, 2 scallops, the SMALL Pincher of the lobster ( the one that tastes bad), 3 shrimp that were previously frozen, some leftover clumps of crab meat ....and then charge $29.99 for 8 OUNCES (1 cup). . . opps, I think I Just Answered My Own Question....... When I make my own seafood chowder, my wife would call it my " 200 dollar chowder ". Seafood Chowder for Caper Bretoners with a good job ! INGREDIENTS 1/4 cup butter 1 medium onion diced 1 teaspoon old bay seasoning 1/4 teaspoon thyme 1/4 cup flour 2 stalk celery sliced 1 carrot sliced 1.5 pound potatoes peeled and cubed 1/2 cup corn 5 cups seafood stock (or chicken broth if you forget to make fish stock ahead of time) 1/2 cup white wine 4 market lobsters claw and tail meat ( or 2 40 dollar cans of lobster meat, frozen) 8 oz white fish cut into chunks, cod/tilapia/haddock NO salmon ( too strong) 12 oz of Digby, large count scallops 12 oz fresh shrimp peeled and deveined 6.5 ounce chopped clams canned, drained 2 cups fresh, shredded crab meat from Deli Case.( 14 dollars each) 2 cups heavy cream 1 tablespoon parsley INSTRUCTIONS: This recipe will NOT fit in a 6 quart Instant Pot pressure cooker, only the 8 quart will do. Sauté onion in butter until tender. Add flour, Old Bay seasoning and thyme and sauté 2-3 minutes. Combine all remaining ingredients EXCEPT cream and seafood in the inner pot of the Instant Pot. Pressure-cook on manual for 5 minutes, natural pressure release about 10 minutes. Then, blend about half the soup using an immersion blender (or just scoop it into your upright blender then return to Instant Pot). Add heavy cream and seafood, then continue cooking on sauté mode, uncovered, for about another 10 minutes (stirring frequently), until heated through and meat has reached a safe temperature (145 °F for fish and shellfish). Do not boil. Stir in parsley and season with salt and pepper to taste. ( I have high blood pressure, the Doctor told that I have to give up eating Seafood chowder, once I told her how I make it .. 4 cups of Whipping CREAM, almost a POUND of butter ...so this recipe has that nice texture to it from blending half the mixture and returning it to the instant pot instead of using heavy cream and butter to thicken .. My Doctor said that this version she would approve of me eating...)

NO NO NO NO ... We are going through the most invasive time of our lives here with so many people moving in but the infrastucture not keeping up. There is like a 2% vacancy rate in our City of Halifax. When I house goes up for sale for $300,000 , it starts a Bidding War between 3 families until the homeowner gets $40,000 OVER asking price. To rent a ONE bedroom apartment with NO parking is bouncing around $2000.00 now. The City of Halifax has only 500,000 people but last year there were 67 tower cranes erected at the same time, building apartment complex's to house the thousands that are coming and staying here every year. The City is making a fortune, they just increased my house taxes on my older home that is in the City boundaries 68% IN ONE YEAR. You call a cab and you have to wait and wait because the roads are so congested with so many new people here, now driving. 500,000 people in the City, 130,00 WITHOUT a Doctor....AND, if you go to the Emergency Room for a broken finger ...14 or more hours you wait. EVERBODY that has a cut or a broken bone says they have CHEST PAIN, so they they get ahead of the crowd ... chest pain victims get prority ... AND it's even better if an Ambulance brings you in ... because we dont' have enough Ambulance's .... so they want YOU on a hospital bed as soon as possible so the Ambulance can leave the ER and be on stand by. ( The Ambulance attendants HAVE to stay with you when they take you to the ER in Nova Scotia). Do you have money, are you a high paid Professional? ..... are you a member of the Golf Course at home?, the Yacht Club maybe ... well, say goodbye to those perks .. it's a 3 year waiting list to join the Dartmouth Yacht Club here in Nova Scotia. Don't even think about " getting a deal" on a new car or truck, they can't keep them in the lots .. .some many professionals coming here for their first jobs ... first thing they do is buy a brand new SUV/truck/car and then a home ...so SUV are marked up $20,000 dollars MORE than MSRP ... have fun if you want to come here ...but bring a bag full of money ....and a Doctor !

As a new (well moved here from England 40 years ago )Nova Scotian, or "Bluenoser" as we are called I liked your videos, you hit some great places BUT I think you missed one of the best. Fortress Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island, It is a National Historic site that was, 300 years ago, the Capital of Nova Scotia then known as Ile Royale. It was owned by the French then English and back and forth a few times. During the summer the Fortress has people living in it full time, they dress as they did 200 years ago, even the entry gates are guarded by French soldiers who challenge you as you enter. I am originally from London England so am quite familiar with old buildings being guarded by men in strange uniforms, the Tower of London for example. Fortress Loiusborg may not have the Crown Jewels to look at nor can you stand where Anne Boleyn lost her head but for me the buildings of Fortress Louisbourg and it's restoration is, as a historic site , twice as good as the Tower. Just my two cents.

My Janny and I went”On and New Adventure” in 2012 to Nova Scotia. Our greatest memory were the people we met along the way. The local people who stopped in the middle of the road to help us find the campground we were looking for and then offered to lead us to the campground. There were 20 cars stopped behind them waiting for them and no one honked a horn! Everyone was like that. We love them!

Our winters in coastal Nova Scotia include lots of freezing and thawing which creates potholes in the roads. The winters in the rest of Canada, except coastal BC are colder so the roads do not heave so much. It is something we and visitors have to accept here, caused by our milder winters. Repairs in the summer are always happening somewhere in the province!

Crossing the border - Whether it is as a traveller or when it comes to exports, the reasons for the questions related to plants and animals is to prevent the introduction of plant and animal diseases/pests (phytosanitary measures). While the USA has every reasons to be concerned with oranges, Canada not so much since it not being grown here. Both countries have a large poultry industry and, in 2022, saw many outbreaks of avian flu on both sides of the border. Even within each country, several movement restrictions were in place as farms were found infected. Firewood is also a high risk as dead/dying trees are cut and contributing to the movement of many forest pests (Emerald Ash Borer, etc.). We depend on agriculture and the environment for our food and employment. Let's be smart.

I just returned from 4 weeks touring Canada, in many of the same locations. It was nice to see in the video some of the places I also visited! I disagree with you about the roads, however. The Trans-Canada Highway is TERRIBLE! Patchy, potholes, and the big trucks have worn "ruts" in the road which cause your rig to bounce around as though it was in a windstorm! Loved Nova Scotia, especially the Cabot Trail and Halifax. I also enjoyed Louisbourg, with its recreation of pre-revolutionary life. Beautiful country, and a beautiful video. Our 2020 F350 started doing all kinds of strange things on our spring trip. Dome lights coming on, DEF faults, collision avoidance off, all kinds of crazy stuff. Never once any error reported indicating low voltage from the batteries. Finally, it didn't start one morning in Franklin, NC. I pulled the batteries and went to the parts house. One battery had a bad cell and the other was discharged. I was going to replace just one, but they made me a good deal on two, so I replaced both. Installed the new batteries and VROOM! Big Booty Judy roared to life with zero errors!

Great video. My dad was a minister and spent time on Prince Edward Island years ago. I've never been there but this video makes me put it on my list of places to visit. Thanks for sharing your journey.

Exhalant recap. Several times you say you saw things but didn't have time for them. How do you decide how much time to set aside for an area? Love the traffic sines especially around Quebec. Had picture's of one you could tell yes it was in English's but had started out in French. One of the scrolling illuminated sines said "Traffic is proceeding correctly".

May I ask what campground you stayed at when you took the Bay of Fundy boat tour? We are currently in NS and heading from Cape Brenton down that way. Thanks

New Found Land. Not Newfinland, or Newfinlund....FOUND. Just as it reads. When they "found" this new "land", they didn't "fin" this new "lund", they found new land.

Just now saw this episode… For the hitch ball, just little bit of brake caliper grease. It last a really long time. And me and my equalizer hitch it helps to stop the squeaking.

Very nice reflection on your trip to Nova Scotia... I really enjoyed it. My only experience in the NE area of Canada was landing in St John's and having a layover on my way to Iceland.

Awesome and very informative, love all of your stops and suggestions. I can’t help it,but I have to comment on the aerial video, outstanding! I remember the video Mark did about his arsenal of photography tools however I don’t remember seeing a drone. What aerial platform do y’all use? Love the great work and editing as always was spot on. Be safe and enjoy.

In Canada, the Mavic Mini, but normally the Mavic Air 2S. However, the Cabot Trail shot was purchased as we got bad weather and I think the Cabot Trail is a National Park area anyway.

@@KeepYourDaydream Thank you, DJI in my biased opinion has the best affordable camera drones out there. I am still flying my phantom 4 and looking to upgrade. Thanks again.

Did the Atlantic Provinces about a year ago. Quite accurate as you have described it. We loved the Ski Cape Smokey ski lift ride on the Cabot Trail. Amazing views and a very relaxing place. Biggest disappointment was three or four trips out to Peggy's Cove for the required pictures and EVERY TIME it was socked in with fog/sea smoke....!
