I went up in one of the lighthouses that was at the point where the Edmunds Fitzgerald sank 17 mile off shore. We went up in the top of the lighthouse and you could see forever up there. We also went thru the museum and light house keepers house. Really neat. I actually just got back from Mackinaw city MI. I met you Russ at the Wapakoneta KOA. Enjoy watching your videos.

I moved out of Michigan years ago. As my son was growing up we took many vacations in upper Michigan. We made lots of Happy memories there. In fact being our 'Happy Place'' , My son drove 5 hours to the Straits to propose to his girlfriend at he park next to the bridge. Watching your videos , makes me miss my Happy Place. I need to return for a visit soon. Thank you for sharing your adventures. Love them all

The 1st story board told of Douglas Houghton, the First State Geologist, drowned just off shore @ 37. The 2nd told how well educated he was for that Era. A wonderful man with a sad short life. The difference he made in a short time. Looks like you had a nice cool morning. Beautiful aerial footage of Eagle Harbor. Loved the inviting look of the Harbor with a picnic table & grill. Eagle River was a beautiful area too! That was a awesome home in behind those trees. Seeing the propane tank, I'd say they may be year round. Just love the drone footages.

We were up there in the Yupper years ago, unhappily at the wrong time of year when the sand flies and no-see-ums were swarming. So when you go back avoid that period. In June I believe. And you didn't show a snow tree, I recall several of those trees like you are driving by with signs way up on the trunk, 20 feet or more with comments like: snow level winter of 19XX. I guess they snow shoed out and nailed a sign up or I guess down at their feet.. We have wanted to return but the last couple of years those states have been especially slammed by Wuflu restrictions. Thought we might do it this year in September but my wife won a week at a cg outside Yosemite and that took care of that plan...heh. The US 41 travel is cool, it runs right thru our town in Florida and all the way south thru Miami. It's called the TaMiami Trail down there, Tampa to Miami. It was the main drag pre-Interstates and runs straight across the Everglades. It was infamous for people running off the road and into the very deep canal next to it where they might not be found for decades.

They've got a lot of roadside picnic areas but they sure don't get used like they did back in the 60s, when I was growing up in MI. You'd pack the whole family in the station wagon, a picnic lunch and some sports equipment and spend the day at these places. Most times, there would be other families there, and sometimes, Mom and Dad would have to travel down to the NEXT picnic area, they were that crowded! Thankfully they were only a few miles apart, especially on the lakefronts!
