I have lived there most of my life. Until it turn too much of a resort. Hwy 12 was the only way in or out. Rodanthe is pronouced Ro-dan-the not Rodanth. Corolla is pronounced Co-rall-a. Corolla is a car. lol You used to be able to go on the beach for free. Dang goverment always has to make a buck and ruin everything.

So glad you're doing better Tara. It's good to see the 2 of you on the road again. We stayed twice at Onslow Beach at Camp Lejeune and love camping at the beach. In Dec 2020, we actually experienced snow on the beach!

OBX is our favorite area. We especially love the wild horses. I got some of the best pictures of them this year. We were there for two weeks recently. The last week of April and first week of May. We stay at OBX Campground in Kill Devil Hills. Reservations already in place for 2024.

Thank you for admiring the horses from a safe distance. We hear far to many stories of close encounters that often end in injury to both horse and humans. I am blessed to call the Outer Banks home and are happy you enjoyed your stay! Other than being a bit cool you lucked out, the rest of May was dismal. Well Done

Our Oldest daughter was married on the beach on the north end of Duck. There was a store in Duck that had the absolute BEST seafood dip and my girls were there when they opened about 4 straight days to buy some seafood dip. We loved it there.

Hello. Since I'm not a blogger I would like to leave a fun tip here. If you are traveling near colonial Williamsburg you don't have to pay admission if you don't want to go into any building. Also there is plenty of free parking for RVs there. We rode the e-bikes thru the area and it was great. Late afternoon is best. Also 4 blocks behind The George whythe house is the marketplace. Wonderful restaurants and other fun things to do. I hope this helps others have as much fun as we did. Travel safe. Robert Woods.

That was absolutely beautiful guys. The horses on the beach were my favorite. I'm still wondering were they get their water. I can understand your frustration when you found you had no card in your camera. Many years ago I was at a beautiful beach in California, where the sunset was truly amazing. The setting sun was filtered just right behind clouds that ranged from vibrant gold to deep purple and crimson and all in-between. I was so excited about the way the rays of the sun were hitting and playing off the water and was hopeful my camera (a Canon AE-1 ) was getting it all. And yes, this was many years ago and while they didn't have cards in them then you needed film. Much to my dismay after a good 15 minutes of changing F stops and listening to my motorwind I glanced at the back of my camera. It was only then that I realized I didn't even have film in my camera. I was instantly devastated. The light and visuals had been perfect. These were once in a lifetime shots and now it was all gone. The sun was setting. The spectacular visual scene that had been there just 20 minutes earlier was gone. It was a hard lesson learned, but believe me it was one that has stayed with me all these years. And while I've added a few card ready sophisticated cameras to my stock I still have a couple of AE-1' in my array of cameras. I can't tell you how much I enjoy your weekly video's. They are great. ! ! Thank you for the hard work and effort you put into them.

We stayed there last August and had a nice time. The area next to site 380 (whatever site you watched the sunset from) gets packed in the summer months and relatively noisy. The whole park is packed in the summer.

During low tide and not driving in the surf / ocean water, should be fine. When I did not have my 4x4, took a Toyota Corolla on the hard pack sand. The beach ramps have the soft sand often, as you experienced.

Looks like you guys do what we do. Check out the campground for the good sites. You guys think driving on the beach is cool and it is. We have camped on the beach at Cape Lookout which was awesome. You definitely want to air down your tires for driving on sand. It gives you better traction by making a bigger contact patch/area for your tires.

If you continued further North on the beach you would reach a Firehouse, open on Wednesdays for visitors, and a few miles after that, the Virginia State Line. My family vacations there every year in a rental house just shy of a mile from the Virginia State Line. So beautiful, peaceful, and the fishing is amazing. Go back again if you have the chance.

FWIW, regarding place name pronunciations like _"Buxton:"_ As I mentioned in another comment, I have been living in Northeast North Carolina since the mid-1990s. For years I pronounced the name of _"Bodie Island Lighthouse"_ as 'beau-dee'. APPARENTLY the correct pronunciation is 'body', but I have used 'beau-dee' for so long I am stuck with it...😊 *EDIT→* Regarding _Duck, NC,_ I was planning on taking kiteboarding lessons near there about 4 years ago. UNFORTUNATELY that would have been the Spring or Summer of 2020. BAD TIMING on my part...🙄

We were there 2yrs ago, what a blast. We had no trouble with our AWD Honda CRV with 20lbs of pressure. The free air down and air up location is at Historic Corolla Park, on the west side of Hwy 12, about 1.4 miles south of the beach entry, across the street from Corolla Wild Horse Adventures. Those two ruts you left spinning in the sand on exit wouldn't have happened with lower tire pressures. Here's our short video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qH-7fmOkhM2Km7c

I was on the OBX, doing a wild horse tour when your video posted. I thought that was funny. RE the car's burning up. Our tour guide actually mentioned that. It's from overheating your transmission from driving in sand. If you take the temp up too much the transmission fluid will explode and catch fire. You were on the hard pack down in the wet sand. But if you up in the soft sugar sand, your transmissions works 3 or 4 times harder to power through. That's why the airing down is such a big deal, so that your tires can "float" across rather than "plow" through it.

We took our camper to the Outer Banks years ago and we were parked one sand dune away from the ocean. Our camper was a mess from salt spray, the heat that week was hot and muggy and thundershowers rolled through quite often off the sound. We were on Hatteras Island and even though we were right on the ocean, you couldn't see it due to the dunes.
