That being said dont cut your quality of work with self tapping screws for the bottom ac flashing flange , im dont thinl you sealed them also they will shake lose overtime . Hello... thanks for the videos, great information there! I have a pea size hole on the rubber of my roof, it has been in parked for the past 6 months and I didn't see that hole there before winter... the wood inside is already curling and softer than the rest... Under the membrane is a little wet, should I just patch that hole? Any suggestion on how to dry it before patching the hole?
@RVROOFINSTALL

You could patch it but it won't be a long term fix. If the wood is dry you could inject some caulk under the membrane and then out a roof tape patch, although you need to clean and prime the roofing membrane. Second option...file a claim with you insurance company.

What do you use for securing decking over delaminated decking after removing the delamination ? I used construction adhesive previously on my 2004 R Vision but now I am doing TPO again on my 2004 Jayco Designer ( BTW Jayco lied about the thickness of the decking, they said 1/4" and I don't even think it's 3/16ths ) but it looks like the M1 is a superior product . I probably use exterior luan as before (1/4" .).Actually I prefer fiberglass roof but even the old pittsburg lock seam aluminum roof were better than rubber if you resealed seams every year. I just noticed that the ply wood it badly rotted about 1 foot across. it feels like some of the wood framing might also be rotted. Should I just peel the roof back(can it be reused ?) and replace the wood or just do the EPDM rubber roofing coating system ? I live in it and have lots of rain coming withing a few weeks. I can get a carport tent with clear tarps to work on it.

@@Dave-ld3dr Dicor is made by Carlisle Syntec. Carlisle makes a commercial rubber lap sealant if you want to use that. I hate to give advise because I can't see what your working on and if it fails you'll be shaking your first at me thinking I'm giving you bad advise. If no it were mine I would take the time to get the Dicor off. Mineral spirits will break it down but makes a mess. Once clean, remove and clean the vent underneath as well. Wash well with denatured alcohol to get the spirits off. It leaves a slick residue. Once clean prime the membrane and the apply a very generous bead of the Rapid non sag to the bottom of the vent and settle the vent back into place. The idea is to have about a ¼ inch cushion if caulk under the vent. Let cure, then replace the screws. Out a do. If caulk where the screws will go and torque the screws down so they're right but not trying to crush anything too tight. Then go around the perimeter of the vent with a second strike of Rapid. It will e time consuming for sure. If you ruo the roofing you can use the eternabond as long as you prime the roofing. Then prime the eternabond where caulk will be applied.

People do not realize to install these per manufactures instructions to keep warranty you are using expensive products. I’m not even talking about the field sheet. The sealant, primer, boots, pour sealants, all have to be TPO grade and done properly. I just watched a hack install his like EPDM. Dudes gonna be disappointed when his new roof leaks in a couple years. The curbs are a crucial necessity but I bet DIYers rarely have installed their own much less hot air welded anything. There’s a reason people pay pros to do their craft. Kick ass vids.

Eric Styer I have been able to get the GAF TPO and WB181 from a local roofing distributer. Having to purchase full product i.e., 3 times what I will likely use. I can take some time to do the work as I have a large enough garage. The TPO is very heavy and had to cut roll down and chain hoist to get on roof. These guys look to do great work, just can’t afford someone else to do it. It is pretty amazing how much damage some of these new RVs have. My RV is a 07 and didn’t have much damage but I did replace 3 sheets of decking. I hate the EPDM junk. I am also able to get the M1 from the same dealer but buying a entire case as they don’t stock white. I also bought a Leister heat welding gun and will be practicing a lot before figuring out those curbs. The unstructured is pretty expensive per square foot also. All in will have close to $1300 in material and tooling but does take a lot of time.
@ericstyer2890
@ericstyer2890 5 жыл бұрын
Roy Sprague the heat welder isn’t too bad. Your budget is about twice what mine was. I ended up with JM 45 mil structured. Nowhere near as clean and pretty as RVROOFINSTALL does them but for my 05 it will last much longer than it would have otherwise. I did the curbs and am at HD right now actually looking for longer bolts for the AC units. Will prob have to use allthread and make it work. The whole time I’m doing my project I’m wishing I had a shop to keep it out of the weather.

The construction if anything is worse. Rest assured that any improvements the RV industry makes would be for the sole benefit of the RV manufacturer. So let me express my opinion. Ive had multiple rvs. Been around construction my whole life. Also spent 5+ yrs in water damage trade. Correct me if im wrong but, why do they fail to properly flash rv’s. When i say flash im talking about the construction of the rv itself to prevent leaks. I feel they could be flashed/constructed in a much better manner to prevent water damage. Im not expert in life, but we supposivly been to the moon and back, yet they can’t properly flash an rv so theres no possible way water can get in the corners. To flash it, construct it so it’s impossible for water to get in the crevices regardless if theres caulking or not. Ive talked to owners of rv sales businesses and yet they claim theres no roof warranty for over 6 months. Are u kidding me? I believe this is a conspiracy, Well technically i shouldnt call it a conspiracy, as they are doing it right infront of u. Why are the corners not flashed? Same way u would do to a window to a house. Or a house roof, etc These rvs are literally designed to leak. Trust me. Ive put enough thought and time ln this issue with rvs. Its so basic ( common sense) it baffles me why anybody doesn’t question it. Why are all the rvs constructed so that the face or front, underlaps the roof, and the only thing stopping the water getting into the front corners is caulking. Its beyond my comprehension. When u proper flash(a house roof, house windows, house siding, rv siding, etc) u dont have to worry about water penetration. They do this intentionally, in 10-20yrs u got water damage on all corners of ur rv. Next thing u know u got soft subfloor. Ive come to conclusion that this is intentional. As it seems very basic to prevent
