I find it kinda interesting that your patrons decided to see you redesign weiss despite the fact that she has always had the strongest design. Ruby being a close second. Even if their Volume 7 outfits are a bit much they still have really strong designs. I think that Blake, Yang, and Neo’s new outfits need redesigns before her’s. Especially Yang. Her outfits have never gotten better than her first. Don’t get me started.

Vol 7 outfits in a nutshell: Weiss has too much blue, Blake still has too much white, and Yang still has too much brown. Ruby has the best outfit of Vol 7

endymion There’s nothing wrong having colours that compliment their representative colours but it’s the fact they dominate the entire outfit. Yang is barely yellow she’s a potato sack, Weiss is predominately blue, and Blake is in a bunch of white

@@itspronouncedgif3906 Yang has never been majority yellow, her yellow comes from her hair and weapons. Ruby and Yang have always used their colors as secondaries instead of primaries, and now Weiss and Blake are following suit. This isn't the big deal it's being made out to be.

@@Aryc11 Not being majority and barely are two different things. Nobody's making it out to be a big deal or anything it's just colours were extremely important to who the characters were and was a big part of the main aesthetic of earlier volumes. While she did have majority brown it was a darker version so things didn't look as saturated as they do in volume 7 plus it made her stand out more instead of her just becoming faded out. The colours don't mesh really well in the 3d part and her design is abit jumbled. The yellow in Yang's outfit helped form her silhouette. And just because Yang and Ruby had their colours as secondaries doesn't mean suddenly switching it up for two characters who we're used to having their colours as primaries now become secondaries or just barely even there is good design. The colours that are meant to represent Yang and Weiss are basically getting covered up now and it doesn't benefit their design. That's why so many people disliked it.

The name blake means both "black" AND "pale", so her colors could be black and white instead of just black

I feel it would make sense for black to still be present but not as prominent in her new design to fit with her growth of no longer hiding in shadows

​@@tidebringer4517 And preferrably, not a pure black. Dark grays work best with 3d models, which is why they've moved away from pure blacks almost entirely in Blake's design. Her hair is a darker gray now because it allows for texturing to be visible, which is very necessary since she has a singular hair color, unlike Ruby or Ren who have highlights. In my opinion, what they're doing with Blake's outfit isn't necessarily a bad thing. Yang's design has nearly no yellow, with most of it coming from her weapon, new arm, and hair, and it's been this way since Volume 1. They've simply opted to use industry alternatives to pure blacks as it is the hardest color to differentiate from other instances of itself (See: Blake's Volume 1-3 outfit and hair looking like the same solid mass at a glance), shade, and overall work with.

I like the redesign specifically the changing of Weiss’s massive body sized braid. Her redesign makes her look like she’s combat ready and rebellious. Almost like her style matches winter but has its own distinct Weiss flare

This redesign is really nice, I especially love the usage of colors on the outfit, the only thing I disagree with is the usage of the schnee symbol on her belt, especially since you were trying to emphasize that she was breaking away from her family, and becoming her own person, maybe instead of the schnee symbol, it’s a different one that’s still snowflake based, but it feels more like her own thing now.

If you do continue on to Blake, you should also consider that perhaps the white of her coat could have the idea of camouflage, but since they’re in the north pole, there is only white snow there. This is just a though I had.

This outfit is so great! It I can’t quite put my finger on what makes it look great but I think it’s an example of how “less is more” or how a simple design can look way better than an overly complicated design that has so much to look at yet nothing to focus on.

Ok here’s my probably unpopular and long ass take: I actually like the vol 7 Weiss outfit contrary to almost everyone here (even though the braid was a bit chunky and I miss the ruffles on her dress). Your design is also good too and I like the kind of thought you put in and gathering inspirations to create something in your own version. I also really like that you describe your ideas without sounding condescending or continuously downplaying rt’s decisions with making the design. What want to point out when it comes to the thought when designing the characters is composition. For example, being in atlas with bright snow galore, I feel like if Weiss was wearing a hugely white outfit like her beacon one, she would kinda just blend in when she’s not supposed to (especially from afar). The same would go for Blake, like if she were to have “black on black” and be in say Ironwoods dark office. her clothes/lower half of her body would just blend in. This is why I think their current designs have more blues, whites (despite the lab coat vibe) and purples. Also symbolism. The colour blue is meant to soothe and show a sense of comfort, like say Weiss taking off the burden when leaving her dysfunctional family (also fuck you Jacques). It also shows the integrity she has grown to have now hence the dark blue. Remember back in vol 1 when she was first introduced? She was treated like royalty and some prestige image which reflected on her cold (and also bitchy) personality, hence the white outfit and even in her vol 2 outfit, at that point she was still learning. Not to mention vol 4, she had the gloomy, greyish outfit (being stuck in her home). There was no red on her (to symbolize her rebellious side) and in vol 6 the first thing she puts on aside from pantyhose is a RED scarf (p.s the side ponytail also resembles the rebellious side too). Also, I feel like people are being pretty superficial when it comes to colour scheme. Yes it’s important but but not to the point that having more secondary colours on clothing means that they represent a different colour when you have other factors like composition and what characters go through that reflect on their clothing (Weiss and Blake). Take team jnr for example. Jaune is shown to have a primary colour of a light yellow (plus jaune means yellow in French), but he wears bunch of other colours alongside the gold and white on his armour. Ren is another example. His primary colour is magenta/pink yet that colour is limited to accents on his clothing that shows more green and white. Also, I want to point out that Yang doesn’t really wear that much yellow, however her hair makes up for it. Therefore, the yellow aspect of her colour scheme goes to that rather than her brown and orange clothes. For practically, I gonna keep this brief but whether you think Weiss long and semi poofy dress is practical or not (I personally don’t think it’s impractical bc the longer dress would keep her warmer than a short one and the poofy shoulders don’t slow her down and I think it fits with the elegant yet badass vibe), practically doesn’t really play that much of a factor when it comes to clothes and fighting. Hell, like half of the female characters are very skilled fighting IN HEELS. Now my critiques for your design are mainly the sleeves, the colour of the belt, and the bottom of the coat. I feel like the belt could be dark blue or even black (idk having red smack dab in the middle feels a little bit off to me and it’s also where my eyes direct to when I look at it) so it matches the leggings and gloves thus having the colour placement a little more uniformed. Or if you want to keep it red, you could change the colour of the collar (I’m actually a bit iffy on that suggestion myself) The diamond pattern is a nice idea (reflects her personality). However, for the sleeves themselves, they feel a bit too big tho it might be the art style (no offence). Like you said, Weiss has an elegant fighting style and that outfits should reflect personality. So what I would suggest is removing the puffy folds on her wrist since whenever she’s fighting with mrtynster, it would feel like she’s more elegant and free (less like weights since her forearms and wrist move around more) With the wavy stuff on the bottom of the coat, maybe take out the light blue and have it either like an ombré effect or remove the blue entirely (though the ombré could blend well with the leggings). Also, you know how Weiss’s skirts tend to have a little way, ruffle like effect? To make the bottom look less flat/flow better into the leggings, maybe have the bottom wavy itself rather than just a blue pattern. Or even better, have it dip a little in the back so it still flows, but still feels mature/maneuverable. Other stuff I want to add: I really like what you did with the tiara (now hairpin). Never really thought about it that way. I feel like it would still look great even if the gloves and leggings were entirely blue (and to make up for the lost pattern, maybe put it around the coat or boots. Speaking of boots, we’ve seen Weiss fight in heels (as ouchie on the ankles it can be) so I feel like keeping them on would still feel as elegant and not too impractical (as long as there the right ones that are similar to platforms forgot what there called) I mean these are just my thoughts sorry it it’s super long

If her legs are a major part of her combat, they need to be a little bit bigger and or defined, as they are what get used most often in combat, plus, you seen a dancers legs, they’re usually defined as hell, especially on a ballerina

She is the most delusional character😡 I've ever seen in my life and that's saying a lot, constantly bringing up that because she is a human in a magical world that she should be special like how the books and movies do. I'm an otaku, but MY GOD this girl is the worst kind of weeb to write. I HATE the ship of Luzity because in the beginning Luz has always put herself in a moral high ground even though her actions contradict anything she's saying and it also doesn't help that she causes the MOST trouble for Amity, be it almost looking at her diary, putting Amity's siblings in danger or physically hurting her. This show expects me to BELIEVE that Amity would fall for Luz👿. I don't even care much about Amity herself, but I don't want her to be with some awful PUNK. That's why I hate Luz. Got pretty heated, but I released all my emotions.

@@emn2375 My overall problem is that I don't believe her. She can act all perky as much as she wants, but in literally every episode so far she's done something to justify my hatred. She comes across as someone who has the worst intentions, no matter what comes out of her mouth. I don't think I can ever like her, even if they somehow manage to develop her her😕. Her first impression and the fact her presentation keeps getting worse just practically doomed her character. When Amphibia introduced Marcy my immediate thought was; "This is Luz if she was actually good and smart."

I like this. I I’ve to admit my biggest gripe with it is all the patterns (mainly on the legs) too many can really muddy up the design. Regardless if it’s 3D, and the stripes on the pants and near the bottom of the coat just distracts from the pants. But I like it amazing job

I'm not totally in love with the way blue part on the bottom either, but I didn't want to go with dark blue or black again. Also I did consider making it a rose, but since that's specifically Ruby's thing, I didn't want Weiss to just steal Ruby's style. I felt like the red flower was a close allusion to their friendship without just copying and pasting elements over to each other. :)

I love the redesign and this is a great design, I think that the boots should be more like high heel boots because Wiess has always had heels and the boots looked a little too clunky to fit with her dance fighting style and the black would work better using the dark blue of the legs because they seem odd being the only real dark blue, but I love that this design uses more of her signature colour especially since the characters seem to be losing their grip on their colours atm and the braid works really well for Wiess, tbh i hate what the show did to her hair, she is my favourite character but her hair is way to big atm, can she go to the hairdressers in the show please lol 😆

I love seeing character redesigns! It's always interesting to see how people come up with their ideas. This was great. You really know Character Design Theory! If I had to give one idea though, I would have made her legs that lighter blue the triangles on the sides are. I think the dark blue drew more attention from her than helped direct to her feet. I also would have opened up her boots and given them red lining like her red collar did in V1. I just loved that idea/concept. I think it would mirror her collar you've done again nicely. Weiss' V7 outfit is my least favourite of the 4 girls! Blake is second. Please do her next!!

I think it's interesting what you've done here and I really love your explanations for everything, honestly a really great interpretation ^-^ If I could though I'd like to give some criticism of the designs: 1) while it's true that Weiss is distancing herself from her family for the time being her goal isn't to give up the Schnee lineage entirely but rather be head of it and restore it's name after her father tarnished it. I think it makes sense for Weiss to still have the crown, the Schnee family was noble before her father got ahold of it and she seems to be determined that it shall remain noble after it. 2) I also think getting rid of Weiss's skirt was a mistake as well, I think it erases her femininity which is a shame because for me personally a lot of designing and writing has female characters give up feminine parts of themselves in order to become 'stronger' like being feminine is a weakness in some way. (this comes in many different forms like cutting off long hair to show growth also has this problem). I think Weiss makes sense to have a skirt, she is an aristocrat even if she is disowned she grew up in high class society, her fighting style is heavily influenced by ballet and of course she sings in a way akin to opera. Even in her third design the long skirt could be a reference to ballroom dancing another art of dance enjoyed by upper society. I think it would be good to keep this running trend perhaps by picking a different form of dance for her design. 3) I think personally she looks too militant like winter as many people have pointed out, however in the show Weiss has stated she wants to find her own path. I think personally having Weiss and winter look different is important as it shows that both can be strong in different ways, she respects winter immensely as her third design does pay homage to winter but I think making her look too much like winter is a mistake, especially now since the last season Weiss has seen that her sister can't live up to the pedestal she put her on. I will say I am so happy you brought back the red as snow white has 'lips blood red' lending further to her fairy tale character inspiration that the designers seem to have forgotten about since the first design and also yes! Thank you make her white again! Her colour was becoming blue slowly which makes absolutely no sense! Great work this is definitely once of the best thought out redesigns I've seen in a while

Pretty sure it's mostly a combination of the hair and context that are ruining it for most people. The dress is nice enough by itself, from what I've seen. 'course, my opinion is that every redesign I've seen since season 3 has been a downgrade, even when it's not actually Bad. The New characters always look fine though, for some reason.

found this while i was bored out of my mind, and THANK GOD SOMEONE ADRESSED THIS!!!!!! (ahem) anyways, commenting this way too late, but that's fine (right?). 1. Pockets are great! everybody needs pockets! And they're amazingly practical (can store tiny, foldable weapons as well as other useful things.) 2. NO FRIKIN GAPS. THANK U SO MUCH. I mean, if the cold of Atlas is really that strong, shouldn't they cover every inch of their body with practical clothing? Yang, Wiess, Clover, and probably other characters had this problem. 3. Wiess' hair style redesign was... Im not sure how i feel about that, honestly. In combat, hair can be used as leverage, since yanking on hair is typically painful. So I actually liked Blake's haircut in terms of practicality. (I didn't like it in terms of asthetics, but I also tend to like long-haired people). A braid sounds like the thing wiess would wear and seems to be ok, besides it's length. I know someone is gonna read this and say that im dumb long hair is amazing, and Im just saying that long hair is impractical in combat. ANYWAYS i guess I like it? The bangs aren't in the way, and the braid could be used like a whip (like in anime). That's all, thank you for making this video!

You should have kept the dress aspect of her og vol 7 design. Bc in my OPINION, a long dress is the natural evolution of a skirt. So if your whole purpose was to show maturity, then a long combat dress would have been perfect in my OPINION. But hey that design want bad either.

This redesign looks really, really good! Personal preference but she should have a touch of yellow somewhere to have her have her entire team's colors. Something like giving her hair accessory a bit of yellow? Either way, this design is fantastic.

I haven't commented in your channel before but I've been watching your videos for a while, and you're overall a pretty entertaining creator :D As for this video it's a very interesting premise, and I quite like the outfit you came up with for Weiss! And I also agree that maybe she should have dropped the tiara by this point; adding onto she not being a heiress anymore it feels a bit weird to have Weiss portray a sense of royalty or something akin to it, specially with the outfit CRWBY gave her in Volume 7. And it seems really difficult to pull off a majorly white outfit for her cus her hair is already a giant white blob, but I think you managed to do it pretty well :)

I like the redesign for the most part, but have one criticism. Her hair. I agree that the braid they did was far, far too much. But something bothered me about your redesign, and I eventually realized it was her silhouette. Removing the part of her hair that went straight up drastically changes the shape of her head. Personally I would have kept the hair in relatively the same position, but still made it a fairly tight braid.

Just make the hair ornament her symbol. It leaves throwbacks to her jacket form seasons 1- 3 and shows that she still holds some of her family in esteem, even if she doesn't like them the most.

the reason rooster teeth put Blake Belladonna into more white/purple is to represent her change in motive and emotive/s blakes past was built up on distrust and miss-guidance and of course the WHITE fang she was the black character because she always felt she was running away using her shadows blake considered as a coward. now in vols 4-7 she decides to change they way she thinks and acts and her feelings the white out fit is to resemble light and casting a shadow on her past and not being the shadow blakes voice actor Arryn Zech said so her self in past podcasts and RTX pods also if you read the manga that rooster teeth produced along side the anime it gives more of a back story and how her life changed around others how team rwby was blakes life, light/familly hence in vol 5 ost song "all that matters" lyrics go as "you're lost you're found you're hard to pin down" these lyrics basically mean you're confused in what to do with your past you're here with us but hard to convey feelings and pin down means you're always searching for answers vol 2 were team rwby fight Torch wick and Neo Neapolitan and find out why the white fang are doing such horrid and criminal dust thefts lead by torch wick Adam torus and of course Cinder Fall. all this lead to vols 3-4-5 and on ward to now vol 8 where we dont get much info other than that its taking place over 2 day instead of 3-4 days. so yeah i've been watching rwby since 2012 and before that i watched Monty Oums work now you know the reason for blakes sudden color change and outfit

I'd love to see you redesign the rest of team RWBY. My only criticism is that the stripe going down the side if the leg can very easily look like sweat pants or workout gear if it is not perfectly tailored for if the fabric choice is poor. Thats not a bad thing but I don't think Weiss would go for that look. I am currently studying fashion design and if you want my opinion on anything let me know!:

I dont know, but i think you made Weiss into an Ice Skater.Not that is a bad thing, but i could see Weiss doing a concert where she dances in the Ice Ring and fight Grimm like she was in Anime Pokemon Contest vibe.

I actually prefer the skin colors on Ein Lee's designs, there seems to be little consideration about making skin color look realistic on the show and some characters end up looking grayish. And don't even get started on the extras.

I remember that when they first showed the volume 7 outfits Weiss had a new emblem on her jacket. But it turns out that was just a place filler for her standard emblem. THEY SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH THE NEW EMBLEM. She is the second most important character but she doesn't even have her own emblem she has the same as a family she has distanced herself from. Not only that but her new snowflake had 4 prongs symbolic of her true family with team RWBY, while also being a nod to her summoning. (While we're on the topic, bring back Weiss' time dilations 2K20).
