RWBY: Sienna Khan's "Grudge" - Semblance Revealed!

Sienna Khan is a character who we saw very little of in the RWBY series but she remains a fan favorite and we recently had her semblance revealed! Sienna's Grudge against humanity manifests itself in her semblance making her stronger against foes who are weakened. A dangerous semblance in a prolonged battle. Except it probably can’t be stopped. Beating enemies empowers self, so that would be added too. Maybe it won’t start strong, but we don’t know the upper limit. Isn’t she basically a less OP version of Hulk?

@Pizza Passta Jaune does not use other people' semblance, he boosts their aura by giving up his, having a Thanos level of it himself. If he does not use his semblance, and actively uses his aura for defensive purposes, he's pretty much unkillable unless you hit him really, really, REALLY hard.

We know Salem and the grimm cannot do it, or she would have simply used that particular breed to win the war immediately instead of going divide and conquer through Cinder.

I did not know Sienna was revealed in Amity arena. However I did find out about Sienna's Semblance being called "Grudge" recently by watching the Semblance ranking video over at Rooster teeth animation. (Did not mean to advertise them, but dunno how else to explain it). And her semblance couldn't be better for a leader off a big organisation, as the White fangs were, back in the day. It was said in that video, that Sienna grew in strength indiscriminately by all aura that was getting depleted/broken (Friend and foe alike), as long as it was in a short radius near her. So it's a passive kind off semblance (A bit like Qrow, a semblance that is just there) that will stack power as long aura is getting damaged nearby and the cap on this power may remain a mystery. But as strong as she starts out for a Bengal tiger faunus, she would be deadly once her semblance powers her up enough, going from just simple lashes -> to fatal slashes -> and can end out being able to cut though steel, aura and bone alike with Cerberus Whip. A huge weakness would be that this power indeed depletes from Sienna, we know this cause we have seen Sienna fight in flashbacks and Adam's short video and she didn't had enough aura to defend herself agains Adam's blade, so she can't store the build-up power for long periods off time, it also means if Sienna is the first/only one to clash her power starts off "weak", she basicly needs time to build up power through her semblance, by either her enemy taking damage... or her allies. Lastly I did not know the marks on Sienna were tattoos, I know she's based on Shere Khan from the Jungle book fairytale, so I asumed that her ears and marks both were her faunus traits.

Graven Wolf some writers are really well rounded in everything. But I don't think MK are those kinds of writers. I don't think they're terrible, but I do think they've got a stronger hand in world building, rather than character management. I believe that's something Eddy and Kiersi pick up for them. Sadly, those two weren't there when the time was shorter. It might have changed things or helped, had there been more voices to listen to in the room.

@@gravenwolf6535 Yeah, RT makes some wierd choices. One off them is that in all fights he had even with our main cast, we have never found out Roman's semblance. A more recent one was Adam. We saw Adam in season 6 on the train very brief, at the very start off the season and then pop up again at the communications tower. Don't get me wrong I loved that Yang got her rematch, but I feel that they had could so much more with his character instead off a "Oh yeah, we forgot, here is his reveal off his eye", right before writing the character off. They could had gaven Adam some more screen time, instead off all the screen time Cinder and Neo had, cause they didn't do anything in that season. Cinder got out the ice prison that Raven put on her, she found and teamed up with Neo and then got on a plane to Atlas. Also the best plan that the main crew could come up with was theft, for some reason. If I could I would had rewrite that whole ending off season 6, to make it a big brawl between a 10 v 1 v 1 (Team RWBY (Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang), Team ORNJ (not cannon, but yes I figured they would be team Orange) (Oscar. Rem, Nora and Jaune), Maria and Qrow) versus Adam versus Cordovin piloting the Iron giant. That way Ruby didn't end up with vandalism, simply Adam could incinerate part off the Iron giant. They end up subdueing him the way Yang did, by catching the sword before her aura ran out and catch him that way. Making the trip to Atlas more off a reward, instead off an escape. I get that this makes it minorly inconvenient for introducing the Ace ops in volume 7, but they could still enter Atlas, see how horrible the state off Atlas is and still end up in Mantle, run into the cool Sabretooth grimms and be arrested for unlicensed used off weaponry. This all is just my opinion offcourse, but it wouldn't have taken the characters so out off character to make the smart one say: let's steal an airship or have the most pure hearted destroy the arm off the iron giant. Or make 2 out off the main crew seem like killers (I don't believe Adam is dead, cause we didn't see his body dead, it fell into the waterfall, so he might walk funny with the smack he made during the fall, but I think he's still alive).

What if it's called Grudge because it also works if her allies sustain damage during combat? She'd hold a grudge against those who harm her fellow faunas and will use her rage (acquired strength) to take her enemies down. That'd be much better for a battle between 2 large groups rather than 1 v many. I hope it'll at least have a beautiful visual just like Yang's and Adam's.

@@quwykxz ignoring the fact that there's little likelihood that Ruby would know how to heal Ozma where literal magic couldn't, moving fast and travelling backwards through time are two entirely different things. And even that's ignoring how Ruby's semblance appears to be more in line with her transforming into rose petals, because super speed doesn't explain the volume 4 trailer fight or how she can gain vertical height. But it wouldn't be the first time aspects of her semblance have been retconned/ignored - the food fight, for example, where she generated such force that she was able to defeat a 4 time tournament champion and her team in a single move.

I agree immensely, Sienna is one of my favorite though killed by my favorite villain, I wish immensely for more footage of her fighting and her leading in the same boat, that would be so cool to see. And I play Amity Arena and have her as one of my characters playable so I knew her semblance was named “Grudge” so it would be really fun to see her face off against at least Yang or Hazel - in the thought of this, I thought in volume seven, they were going to expand of what happened to Adam as a child to make him so “violent” because they clue that he was originally from Atlas and was force into Faunus slavery. Since Blake and Adam were in a “relationship” somewhat (they did hint they dated for awhile fyi), Blake would at least know something to look into more information, that may have broaden the story or at least for us to look at how he got his scar - RIP Sienna, they made her an awesome strong character but they killed her off so quickly....

It strikes me as interesting that out of all the members of Team RWBY, Blake and Yang are the more viable in a one v one: Yang overpowers Junior and his gang in yellow trailer Blake goes toe to toe with Roman Torchwick in end of volume 1 and bests him in volume 2 In volume 5, Blake defeats Ilia At the Battle of Haven, Yang contends with Emerald and Mercury In volume 6, Yang and Blake goes head to head with Adam both individually and together before ultimately killing him In volume 7, they forced Robyn to cease their brief fight in Mantle and later on defeat Vine and Elm in Atlas with tactical cunning and subversion

I will say, in a 1v1 against anyone, she'd be a monster if allowed to toy with her opponent. BUT for fighting against multiple enemies, I believe her semblance would instead act as a stamina supplement. The longer the battle drags on, the more her power stacks, but the more her stamina drains as well. I believe that her semblance could be used to maintain her stamina. in short, her semblance is monstrous in 1v1, and has the potential to let her stamina stay constant in a dragged out fight against multiple opponents

Phoenix/Night would it possibly that her weapon can siphon a person’s aura due to it being a wip.even though in the short it didn’t show because her opponents had firearms instead of melee weapons like Adam so she has a foot radius that can help her. I actually had an idea for a semblance like that for my fanfiction, but slightly different. Basically, the longer the semblance is active, the more it increases the user's offensive and defensive power, but with no effect on their speed or agility or stuff like that. Basically a tank that keeps getting tankier. I suck at writing tank characters though, so I couldn't use it yet.

Mine is worse. I designed a tank semblance that's broken as hell (tbf, my OC team is broken already upon designing them). Basically, once his aura goes below 50%, all damage taken will be absorbed and used to recharge his aura.

I do wonder how the mechanics of how Grudge works. If she is an aura vampire, feeding off the depleted energy of her opponents as it is released, then it's possible it doesn't matter if they can recover their aura she would retain the power. In case of people like Hazel who have a lot of aura then she could just feed off of them and grow even stronger. As for how she loses that built up energy, aside from taking damage herself, it's possible it will dissapate over time. It could be should she sleeps or at least relaxes she will lose the build up energy. I had thought of this before. I have an OC that builds up energy during battle. She could build it up outside of battle as well with effort. However it would reset if she sleeps.

I like to think that Sienna semblance is basically to do with momentum, the more damage she inflicts the stronger her attacks become. She's in short the equivalent to a buzz saw, always constantly tearing though everything thrown at her. I'd definitely want to see an exhibition match between her and Hazel.

This is cool. I did not know that Sienna had gotten this level of development. I knew that she appeared in the Adam short but I thought that her primary purpose in the story was to be a middle ground between Adam and Ghira and then killed off when Adam finally decides that she is too strategic with her violence. The very first time that I saw the episode in which she appeared I immediately held respect for her even if I did not approve of her decision to use violence to obtain equality with the humans.

I think a limit to her semblance might be endurance. It increases her damage and what she can deal, but not neccesarily her endurance, aura levels, etc

Yes, I did know about Sienna's stripes being tattoos (I think I got that info from an episode of RWBY Rewind, or some other behind-the-scenes video from RT). And I also learned about her Semblance from the "Ranking RWBY Semblances In Daily Life" video, right here on KZbin ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHvVlXp_hJWEeas ) , though they explained/defined her Semblance in a way that could be understood much differently. The way they said it, it sounded like she got stronger when her opponents FELT worse, and I took that to include things like if they were feeling ANY discomfort or negativity, like being depressed or worried, or sick; therefore, any negativity her opponent(s) had in any way would strengthen Sienna, so she would be insanely powerful in the middle of a hospital full of sick people, or in a room full of depressed folks, not just from people that she injured. So, since her opponents would probably always feel SOMETHING negative, whether physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental, because no one is ever 100% perfect in all of those things at the same time, she ALWAYS has at least some edge. All this leads me to wonder and ask, about the Amity Arena game, "Is the game's information reliable?"; that is, is it considered 100% undeniable canon fact(s) by the CRWBY? Because, unless the answer to this question is a resounding "Yes", then the "Ranking RWBY..." video's version of Sienna's Semblance would make her REALLY broken, and make me wonder how or even if Adam could even hurt her seriously, much less kill her, and THAT leads me to think that this could be a loophole for Sienna's possible eventual return.

I'm currently working on scripting a prequel to RWBY called STRQ: Remnants of the Past, and this is literally the semblance we made for Tai, along with the visual bonus of Dragon Scale Armor that pretty much looks like Sun's clones, but is part of him, or at least surrounds him. The best comparison I can make with Sienna's semblance is the barbarian from Diablo 3. In the game, the barbarian has a "rage meter" which fills up as you deal damage. The weakness to this is that the meter starts out empty and constantly drains itself both in and out of combat. Sienna's semblance likely works the same way, stockpiling power from the damage she deals only for it to drain away over time.

First off, when you think about it Adam’s Semblance isn’t really as great as we once thought. Yes he did disintegrate that big robot. But Yang also showed a similar feat when she shattered Romans Paladin also after absorbing a immense abound of damage. Showing that both Adam and Yang are very similar. As far as Adam and Sienna is concerned. I think Sienna’s weapon gives her the better range, and considering that Adam needs to absorb the strike threw his Sword, a soft weapon like her whip could get around his defense and damage his Aura allowing her semblance to kick in giving her a greater advantage over Adam. So I do think that in a straight up fight Sienna would win.

His semblance allows him to absorb damage in his sword, fire a Getsuga tensho blast, create clones that can also attack, draw his sword and deal long range slashes in quick succession..... His semblance and it's uses seem pretty impressive.

Whips aren't know n for lethal blows but chain whips like siennas or even the chinese 9 section chain whip are known for dealing lethal blows. The chinese 9 section chain whip was an assassins weapon

I feel like Sienna's power wouldn't increase from opponent to opponent. It seems like, to me, her attacks just deal more damage the less aura the target has. So Hazel would be a hard counter to her since he is constantly topping off his aura with his rediculous regeneration rate and keeping her attack relatively low damage. To me, the effect you're thinking of would be worded something like: Sienna's power increases as she deals damage to opponents. With that reading, what matters is her dealing damage to a target. With the reading of dealing more damage the less aura the target has, what matters is her target's aura level.

If Sienna got stronger based on how long a fight goes and the cumulative amount of damage she inflicts; then a constant increase during a battle of attrition makes the most sense to me. Of course, it would also make sense, if she lost a small percentage of the power built up, if she defeated an opponent before moving to another.

i think she would get stronger against an opponent with a constantly regenerating aura. like if she fought hazel, lowering his aura just a bit would probably strengthen her, allowing her to stack her power ups, until she can eventually one hit him. in that same vein, multiple opponents would probably stack as well. would love to hear crwby confirm anything though.

I’m still salty that Sienna basically got sniped as soon as we met her, but I _guess_ it makes sense that Adam would take her out the way he did if he knew that a drawn out battle wouldn’t have been in his favour. I hope we get to see more of her in action both in combat and as a leader, even if just in flashback sequences

If I were to hazzard the meta-physics, I'd presume that her ability works by draining the opponent's aura with her attacks, while not converting it to "aura" per say, but a capacitance separate thereof. Similar to how Yang someone deals more damage, despite losing her aura. I would similarly presume that as Yang takes damage, she, instead of discharging that aura, stores it it a similar battery way to Sienna, I wonder then, if the two fought, would they hamper eachother? Would it function in this way at all? Is it litterally just a magical side-effect of adrenaline for the both of them and the actual function of their aura is completely irrelevant? Who knows, But I'd have liked to have seen her go head to head with Yang only to find that her semblance wasn't working because Yang doesn't "Discharge" her aura on taking a hit like most people do.

In an actual fight, I think Sienna could have beaten Adam. Her weapon is primarily ranged, so Adam would already be at a disadvantage. Plus, strikes from a whip, assuming he could block them with his sword at all, wouldn’t feed into Adam’s semblance much.

But sienna would be required to damage adam's aura. In order to get stronger. Let's say that they did fight to the death for the leadership of the whitefang. Adam gets stronger with each stirke his weapon absorbs. Sienna gets stronger her with each hit a person's aura take. If sienna gets stronger, then to a extent so does adam. If he manages to block an attack. Granted sienna could just disarm adam with her whip. Then would be a one sided slaughter. Untill adam either gets his sword or he loses.

Based off her Specific Description in Amity Arena, Seems to me that Sienna's Semblance is a Passive thing that Just Boosts her Damage output against Enemies that have already Taken Damage. Which Means that in a 1 on 1 Fight the Longer the Fight Goes the Harder she hits and the more in her Favor it will go. But To me, if it Does actually work like that, this Ability makes her a TERRIFYING Leader to an Army, such as the White Fang! Because Nowhere does it say that SHE has to be the one to have Damaged any Given Opponent for it to activate! If she's with other Members of the White Fang, and they all know how her Semblance Works, they Can all just alter their Tactics to be "just Hit the ones that have yet to have Taken any Damage" Letting Sienna Rush in to finish off Damn Near Literally Everything in her Army's Path with a Growing Boost to her Speed and Power for doing so! (if one of her Allies Hit you even once with a Gun, your Fight with her Starts not only with lower "HP/Aura", but she's got a Damage/speed buff on top of it, not a Good situation to be in) This Ability Makes her perfect as a Leader for a Group who's Entire goal is to fight against old oppressors, and may well Explain why she's so Overly Aggressive in her methods. Meanwhile there's other ways the Semblance could work, if you Just Kinda Abstract the game's Description, or Even just take The Way her Unit Mechanically Functions within the game... In Game her Unit's Ability Basically Functions as a Life Steal Effect that Makes her Invincible while it's up and Freezes Enemies in place... if we're to Take insipration off that to determine how her Semblance Might work, then one might assume her Semblance is a Kind of "Life steal" Effect, but substituting Life with Aura. if this is true that would be an Ability that would definitely Encourage her to be as Aggressive as Possible, and Makes Long term Fights Less than Recommended against her, since whoever she's Fighting will definitely Run out of Juice Before her unless they can somehow be MORE Aggressive than her and "out-DPS" her... An other way to interpret it could be that she Gains power as she Shreds others' Aura, like a "Life steal" Effect, but in stead of "healing" her it gives her a Stacking Damage/Speed Bonus As she Keeps Whipping her Way across the Battlefield, I pity the poor Opponents who come up against Her with an army, as each Enemy she Takes out along the way just makes her Hit harder and Harder as she Plows towards the Enemy's Rear line... The first Method Seems the most likely to me, and By Far is the most useful one to a Military Leader Like her, since it allows her to make use of her troops to Amplify herself and in turn Reduce the Risk TO her Troops by being the one who takes the risks for them (Which is Less risky for her due to the Speed Buff she gets). This in turn would also Explain why she's so respected as the Leader of the White Fang, at least by the Members who aren't Members Based solely off of Spite...
