Many references to the past volume opening songs in the Volume 8 opening. Such as in the beginning, "We said goodbye, to all the things we loved.." "Now it's time, to say goodbye, to the things we loved..."~

A thought on Penny that might be comforting; We know there is an afterlife in Remnant. Ozma asks the God of Light if he can return there to be with Salem. We don't know what the 'rules' are for going to this afterlife, but there's a chance that without the body Ambrosius attached her soul to, she wouldn't have been able to cross over. So at least Ruby was able to give her that.

There was a theory that Murder made where Salem does win in the end, causes the world to die, but everyone except her dies, and they all live peacefully in the afterlife. I can't source it, but I know it was a thing. I think it was in his breakdown video of the hound reveal.

"I need therapy" lol the best thing about RWBY that I have seen, watching people react to it, is how people go from "oh this is just a fun fighting show with music" to "huh... okay the plot is kind of thickening... hmm..." to "OH GOD NO WHY" at the end of volume 3, to being traumatised right along with the characters in 4 and 5, and then by the end of volume 8 it's just like "Man... I'm gutted" and I think it's so great that this show can do that. Because going into it you just don't expect it and RWBY is one of those shows that just doesn't make sense as to why it's so great unless you watch it all. Just picking a favourite volume and watching it with a friend won't get anything across; because all the character moments won't make sense unless you've witnessed the journey of those characters. Even the music moves the plot/characters/theme forward. Nothing is random. No background music, no character theme, no dialogue, etc. And it's hard to explain why this show is so good to people who don't know it, because they are thrown off by the first couple volumes by either the art or by the whole "eh this is a silly show, how can you be this attached" etc. RWBY is great.

Fun fact with Be Strong and Hit Stuff. It mostly portrays to Nora, but it can fit for other characters in certain sections. Also, Treasure is believed to be Blake towards Yang just like how All That Matters is believed to be Yang towards Blake.

The Sky Is Falling was the song I was most excited for and it did not disappoint so allow me to gush over it for a moment. It contrasts the song "touch the sky" from volume 7 where the heroes are excited and have a new vigour to their lives and mission, whereas the sky is falling is discussing everything crumbling around them, in some cases literally. Kind of like the tale of Icarus, you fly too high and crash to your demise. And from a musical stand point, the lyric "The sky is falling down" at the end of the chorus is known as a chromatic walk down, in which the notes descend in equal order to give an effect of something actually falling and it also makes it very addictive to listen to

With regards to whether Penny knew that Ruby (And the rest of team RWBY) were still alive: She had earlier in the season asked Ruby to kill her so that she could give the power to Ruby. Ruby was the best and most qualified person she could think of for that sort of power. Ruby of course found another solution that doesn't require the power transferring. So the fact that when she died she didn't try to pass it on to Ruby makes me assume that she died thinking her best friend was dead. There are other possibilities. e.g. the silver eyes power and the maiden powers are sometimes viewed as opposites in a way, so it could be that she tried to give it to Ruby but she was ineligible to receive it. I personally doubt it for a number of reasons, not the least of which being the scene where she spoke to Winter and told her what was happening. She wasn't surprised it was Winter there, that was her plan. But I'm just saying that it's possible there are other reasons.

well at that time it was sort of an emergency situation and ruby was closest to her, furthermore, winter was still working for ironwood at the time as far as they knew

Treasure is more of a bee song because it didn't play until Yang and Blake hugged. Plus we saw Blake and Yang constantly thinking about the others. But it dose fit renora to.

There is a fairly new tradition (it started with Volume 7) where some RWBY reactors collaborate to make “The RWBY Ozcars” where they make a giant poll of things like “best meme of the Volume” or “best lighting moment” and the fans vote. Then the RWBY reactors involved will record themselves reading off the options and winner of a category they were assigned. I’m wondering if you would be one of the reactors involved, if you were able to be? Also, would you consider reacting to the Volume 8 Ozcars? It’s a long video, but I’d really like to hear your opinions on all the options in the categories

Sorry im commenting a lot on just the first song. But rwby songs have lyrics that are usually “hey, heres all the doom and gloom, but at least theres hope” but because the shows symbol/source of hope is now losing hers, that part of “at least theres hope” in For Every Life is now riddled with doubt and uncertainty. It just feels different.

Alright, finally V8 breakdown: For Every Life - This intro is really a banger. It’s finally dethroned the nostalgic grip V2 had on my favorite spot. Sky Is Falling - Honestly, the rap on this one keeps me from downloading this. Because it too was a banger. Be Strong and Hit Stuff - Love how the intro is sooooo Nora. Such a hopeful song amongst the tragedy. Truth - While I was expecting more, I’ve seen a lot of people say that it gets across what it needs to and… yeah. For what it is, it’s great. Casey’s voice is haunting and the way it just builds until that last line is… gorgeous. Disappointingly short but Im not mad this is what Jeff and crew thought best. Treasure - BEEEEEEES!!!!! (And Renora) And from Blake’s pov as a response to Yang’s pov in All That Matters back in V5. That’s my reading anyway. It’s such a pretty song too, and gets me all in my feels. Friend - Ugh hurts me so much. But it’s such a good song. Love all the references to Penny’s introduction in V1. Penny and Ruby’s relationship was always so wholesome and I hate that Ruby’s going to have to learn that Penny is gone… Awake - Glad Casey’s band going strong. She just always sounds so good man.

Volume 8 soundtrack I'll admit mostly ain't my style mostly (not the wrong genre but IDK I'm picky about rhyming I think XD) but as always it was expertly well done and gotta LOVE them lyrics~ XD What really gets me about the V8 songs though is the subtle call backs -Penny's song having 'Darkness like Midnight' as its starting line to show just how helpless/alone she felt before meeting Ruby in the same volume we see Cinder's past/Salem's big move against Atlas in the episode Midnight... The continued use of the Fall motif which well, fall of Beacon has now upgraded to the Fall of Atlas (we knew it was coming but @#$# its a gut punch all the same), the use of 'Strength will not bring victory' yet again resonating, and just. I know it wasn't written for the show but examining Cinder's character through the lyrics of Awake, not just the embers line but the pain in the 'in darkness my tears collide' and the self-image suicide... Cinder DOES smash her weapons (very frequently used as a representation for the soul/self in this series, to the point Ruby foreshadows it in the very second episode) every time she fights just about, constantly shattering and burning the pieces back together just like how her character arc has shown us her rising, shattering, rebuilding and shattering again and again

Cinder was still young and abused all her life. Still can't believe a huntsman couldn't remove her from there, huntsman are "big shit" in this world. (On the other hand that b#tch Hotel owner was some noble with connections, maybe even blackmailing powerful persons) He just taught her how to fight/possibly kill, and then he was surprised that she killed her abusers? (No shit Sherlock, she was just letting them abuse her for x more years until she can be a huntress, yeah, sure...) He wanted to bring her to justice, and she wanted to be free, so she killed him. It was tragic but understandable. Cinder wants to be as powerful as she can, so no one can hurt her. Not healthy, but her past wasn't healthy either... The problem with Cinder is that she has a new abuser/manipulator, Salem, and she is immortal...
