If you look closely and pay attention to the background, the Hound had actually been watching Oscar. Specifically when they first went on the hoverbike things, when Oscar and Ozpin were talking as they evacuating the people, the Hound was running across the bridge right as the pterasaur grimm was about to fly under it, and in the background behind Yang right before the Sabyr fled in fear. Yes...the Hound actually DOES scare other grimm

It is a big part of how he has survived, but it isn't good for rational thinking (though, as Ren knows, neither is just going with your emotion-related impulses), and it's not good for the important things in life, like relationships, and finding a sense of fulfillment, ect. And Aryn is right. When Ren raises his voice and such, its not good; its best to regularly express frustration and anger as it comes along, so that you can better process them and not have outbursts.

Regarding Ren and his obvious and growing hostility, there's actually a good theory going around suggesting that Ren can not only suppress emotions with his Semblance, but them too, much like a Grimm can, and all the negativity in the vicinity is what's driving him batty on top of everything else going on.

Not to say that's a bad theory or anything, but it might be something even simpler: ever since his childhood trauma, he's had to "be brave", and thus his Semblance is to mask his/others' emotions. He's been doing that all his life to one extent or another, keeping himself cool by habit, and eventually by personality. It's fine when he's in control... but it also means he doesn't have experience with when he's NOT, and it's clearly not good for him to be stressed in general (especially over long periods of time, like from partway into V7 up till nowadays). So, he's basically a ticking time bomb, stuck dealing with his emotions the only way he knows how... but he's struggling hard to contain them now, and once they inevitably get out by one means or another, he won't know how to handle it without help :/

The scary thing about the Hound? It's tactical. Not just with using Oscar as a shield, but how it took him out is incredibly smart. It separated him quickly and it didn't use claws or bites (aside from grabbing him), it instead used it's own weight in heavy strikes to break his aura quickly, plus it stomped on his head and chest after the slam to knock him out.

always kinda figured the eyes were one of the red slits on it's mask, or something. of course, perhaps salem figures that without eyes it will be less vulnerable to a 'silvery gaze'...? otherwise, naturally, removing the eyes just strengthens the nose. which would be quite beneficial to a 'hound'. scents lie on average 99 percent less often than eyes, I reckon. :) if your sense of smell is good enough, at least...and I'm pretty sure his is.

I don´t think this Grim once was a person but rather a Grim 100% created by Salem. We have seen her manipulate Grim to evolve wings but we never saw her make one from scratch. So this could be the result of that. That could also explain its goopiness. It is unnatural (for Grim standards) and volatile. Maybe it even is just the liquid of the pools of Grim just barely given form so it is always able to grow new parts just like endless Grim are spawned from the pools.

Arryn's talk about the Hound possibly once being a human reminded me of the theory that it is, in fact, a twisted and mutilated Summer Rose. I've seen people pointing out that the lack of eyes could be because Salem would've plucked Summer's silver eyes out.

You can't say "In fact" when there's nothing supporting this baseless theory. Like, where did this come from? Salem has magic. We know she has used it with Grimm before such as giving the gorillas wings. And the Hound had to form vocalcords in order to speak, otherwise it would've responded to Ren right away, but instead it had to take a moment to do so, just like when it had to morph its wings and its body to become bi-pedal. So why would it be a former person if it has to create vocal cords to begin with? As far as I'm concerned it's just another way for Salem to really mess with people. And why would that person be Summer? Why save it until now when the Hounde likely wasn't even created in the past and seemingly only created for the purpose of sniffing out the former owner of the Lamp? It's less about "facts" pointing to Summer and more "oh it would be so COOL if it was Summer, omfg Ruby and Yang's reaction when" and so on. People *want* it to be Summer for that dumb reason rather than it being a theory with anything backing it up. As to the Hounde not having eyes, could just be a choice rather than having any connection to Summer's lost eyes which we don't know if she did lose them or not. It's also voiced by Jason Liebrecht, who voices Qrow. i.e not a woman.

The FNDM has a tendency to create wild/complex theories that normally fall way off the mark. I was just musing how Arryn immediately jumping to the idea that the Hound could've once been a human Salem experimented on reminded me of the Hound=Summer Theory that's been going about. As for my usage of the phrase "in fact", perhaps it was an unfortunate choice of words but I meant it in the sense of "according to this theory: X is actually Y".

-Prisoners Not a good thing that Watts is the only person in the group who is completely unconcerned about his capture. Even worse that he was the only one taken away, meaning that it is likely that Ironwood plans on using him somehow in fighting Salem. If that’s true, that is a bad idea, given that the last time he did that, his fleet was attacked and his robots were hacked. Even worse, Qrow plans on killing Ironwood, at least, that is the current assumption (given that these two chapters have already averted assumptions a few times already). Robyn is currently feeling helpless, so anything to change the situation will be something she would be quick to follow. Jaques can stay in his cell for all I (and many in the RWBY community) care… -New team It feels like its been a while since we’ve seen a grinning Yang. The new team seems to be doing what they set up to do to help Mantle, even with the difficulties they face. In many cases, it seems that the Grimm were the least of their worries. Once again, we see Salem’s true power in action through division. Or it may be that some of the people do not truly grasp the gravity of the situation, something that Ozpin pointed out. A slight possible theory with regards to Oscar. In _The Wizard of Oz,_ Dorothy sought the Wizard to go home, only to later learn that she already had the power to return home and that she had to learn from her experiences. It’s possible that Oscar could face that realization and that only when their souls become will he’ll truly find out what Ruby told him two volumes before, that he’s his own person. It is also possible that Ozpin would conceal that from him until the very end. It would go with his persona as a headmaster to continue to teach lessons. Also of note is the strain of the team, particularly Ren. His brief lapse in focus may more than likely have to do with Nora’s absence, at least in part. The other half may have to do with their failure in the previous volume. He’s trying to move past it and focus on doing something to distract from it, but it may still be there in his mind subconsciously. It’s a brief moment now, but I fear those moments may become more regular. -Entry into Atlas, again It took an half of a volume, a mech battle, a gigantic Grimm, and Adam, just to get them close into the place, and they only succeeded because they were arrested in the first chapter of the next volume. Seriously, why is Atlas so difficult? Well, at least this time, it may not be as long (if shooting Weiss through a tube is any indication). Still, there is no chance that it will be easy once they get there. It’s more than likely that Ironwood is prepared for this idea. Also, the conflict within Penny, given a power that see didn’t want and now becoming more. Between that and having to face people she considers friends is difficult. Granted, Ruby is there to support her, but in many ways, Penny is more innocent and pure than Ruby. So to deal with the current situation may lead to her making critical and possibly damaging decisions. -The Hound Grimm This Grimm officially puts the threat level up to level 12. Between the huge ones like the _Leviathan,_ the creepy ones like the _Apathy,_ and the nightmare of the _Nuckalvee,_ the _Hound_ isn’t that scary appearance-wise. Even when it went through repeated forms and sprouted wings, that wasn’t too big of a deal. The fact that it was smart enough to use Oscar as a shield is dangerous enough. Then it spoke… I can’t be the only one who recalls that scene in _Rise of the Planet of the Apes…_ When a creature, any creature, has enough intelligence to reply back to a human coherently, that it a severe problem. And then add metamorphic abilities and you have a real monster. RWBY quote of the chapter _"…No…” (The Hound Grimm)_

I don’t know if it’s a person or not. I think it’s just an evolved Grimm that Salem has been trying to perfect. It seems to be able to to take on the characteristics of some of the previous Grimm we’ve seen. My theory is that the Hound and Salem is actually the equivalent of Black Zetsu and Kaguya from Naruto.

It should’ve been easy to assume grimm could be people (for us that weren’t thinking of it, including me). Some of the older ones actually do possess high intelligence. Plus, Cinder’s on her way to becoming a grimm too sooooo yea should’ve been right there lmao. Even Salem herself is technically part grimm after bathing in the black pools. Such an amazing concept. Pyrrah said they lack souls, so any soulless human should have that potential, especially when a Witch could easily do it with her magic. Salem and Oz have literally become the new Gods in their own right. Creating maidens, training guardians, gifting magic so twins can become birds, making grimm, causing destruction, preserving life and choice (to an extent), etc. All pretty unearthly at the very least.

Heya! I'm not sure what recording program you're using, but if you're worried about destroying our ears, most programs have a "compressor" filter for voice. This enables you to set a db level where, if your voice reaches it, will force the sound to lower according to a ratio of your choosing. it's not a noise gate that kills the sound, FYI. Try and find it, and give it a shot!

Ren's yeet attack is really just a variant of his Knuclavee charges. Which isn't good. **opinion below influenced by ch 3/4 events, but no outright spoilers. ** I think Ren's problem is not so much that he doesn't process his emotions (well, that is A problem) but that he's adopted this older-brother-substitute-parent role for Nora, assuming he has to keep them safe. Nora's been OK with that dynamic, trying to support him. But like Blake and Yang, they're beyond that now, for all sorts of reasons. Need to realise they can each switch between parent, peer and child as needed/able, not just be stuck in one role.

You really like to use Volume 5 scores at the end of your videos, huh? Yeah, I do listen to RWBY OSTs way more than most would. I'm weird. Volume 5 has a lot of 'brooding" music since its scenes air on the long end, and they make for good background content here. For anyone wondering, the scores used here are "Dinner & Coffee" (i think?) and "Who Would Ask For This?" The latter of which you reference in your discussion lol. I've also heard "A Note From Ilia" here and there before.

I don't think that the Grimm is old, I think that Salem put effort into creating this one with all the necessary intelligence and abilities to get the job done. Like when she gave wings to the gorilla Grimm. And I don't think it was a person. We have seen no evidence that people can be turned into Grimm.
