I just want to say, I love how CRWBY are keeping track of longitude and latitude with Remnant. Like, we've seen that Atlas is so far north they're not getting many hours of daylight right now; now they're showing us that even though it's late at night in Atlas, Vacuo is far enough west that the sun is only just setting there. Not even the Avatar franchise bothered with that kind of detail, and I love that RWBY does.

Which if you think about it...it may be up to Raven to save Team RWBY in the end, because of Yang. That's the only way I can see them, surviving when everything is turning against them despite their best efforts.

Fix a problem. Save the day. I really need some history on her. Past and present. I have waited for a STRQ flashback since then end of V5. Getting a little worn now. I guess I can understand the writers trying to hold on to that bit of meat for as long as possible as it has the potential to rock the RWBY world of theories and conjecture. It would be a far bigger lore dump than episode 6x3.

@@DocMicrowave I think a full flashback couldn't happen until all of the remaining members were together. Parts of what happened have been generally pieced together, but getting all of the info in advance of them coming back would give far too much away that they were coming. Logically, the only people that could make it there within such a short time frame would be Raven and Tai along with her. Raven probably returned to her tribe after she portaled to Tai and they talked at the end of volume five. But seeing a global communication, knowing that if Ruby is in trouble, that Yang is in trouble, and Raven understanding that she alone isn't enough, goes to get Tai, who is sick of watching his kids go fight without him, leaves with Raven and they instantly go to Yang. They see the Grimm River, realize things are WORSE than they thought, the army of Salem and her flying fortress, and they portal to go get Qrow. I think that last conversation with Yang is a turning point for Raven deciding that this time she needs to fight with her real family. And that's when we will get some flashbacks, but not the entire thing until probably Vol 8

I can't believe Penny's death is now only the second saddest scene with the character. You have a robot girl who is insecure about being lesser than everyone else and being just a tool. And now not only is she probably completely under Watt's control as a weapon and a tool. She also probably just had all her artificial skin burned off(or at least most of it). So now everyone can see her for exactly what she feared the most. It also gives me heavy Emil from nier vibes. Here we have a wholesome but troubled child who makes a choice to fight for their friends and gets a massive magic powerup as a result. But getting that magic just makes their lives hell.

The most insidious thing is that Watts wasn't CONTROLLING her in the remote control sense, like Pietro did at the base, like was pointed out, she literally grabbed her head and confusedly said "i have to go...the vault" meaning hes actually infiltrating her thoughts and either inserting commands into them like obsessive thoughts or literally affecting whatever sets the basis for her decision making. If she takes action against her friends then even if they fix her, how long will she have to question if a thought is her own or a buried bit of code from Watts' invasion.

So I could talk for hours (and I think I may have at one point to my friends) about how well they handled Maria's fighting style, even though the fight was maybe 10-15 seconds long? I thought after the flashback episode where she fought and lost her eyes would be the last we see her fight, but NOPE. Even after years in exile and approaching 90 she still can still whoop ass. She probably kept training because she thought someone might still come after her. It's definitely a nod to the 'old master' trope in old martial arts movies. The first thing we see is Neo coming in with an over the top flying flip kick, and in direct contrast Maria blocks with little movements, and continues to do so with no effort while laughing her ass off. There's very little wasted movement, especially compared to someone as flashy and acrobatic as Neo. Now obviously Maria's spider-sense semblance is playing a big part here, but like she said in vol. 6, she owes her life to her training and semblance. Neo probably didn't even register her as a real threat until she realised she couldn't touch this little old lady (and she only landed a strike when Maria was distracted). And like another reactor pointed out, Neo is usually the untouchable one. Up 'till now the only person to land a hit on her was Oscar (and Neo then proceeded to play team ORNJ like a fiddle), but god-damn Maria Calavera kicked her in the face, whacked her on the nose and tripped her over. It could be argued that since Neo did not use her semblance, and wanted Maria alive to interrogate about Ruby, she wasn't fighting her hardest, but it was still a fantastic character moment for Maria. Best huntress/huntsman of her time, and still clearly better than some of the current ones too. :D

here's my crack theory: Glenda gathers all the teachers of Beacon and they meet at Tai's house (don't know why). during the meeting of them figuring out what to do, raven shows up. she feels guilt for betraying and abandoning her family multiple times. Raven opens a portal to Qrow and busts him out of jail (as well as Robin) then opens a second one to Yang/Ruby (maybe both).

Do you know difficult it is to see the thumbnails of the scenes of the chapter and NOT click on them before seeing the chapter when they are available? Very, VERY, HARD!!! -Chapter 5: Amity This may be the first time in a long while that a chapter was focused on a character(s) other than the main team(s). The only one I can think of was _Beginning of the End_ on Volume 3 which focused on Cinder and her team. An interesting switch… -Father and Daughter It’s clear that Pietro loves and cares for Penny and simply wants to keep her safe. In fact, their interaction is so complete you would never realize that she was a robot. But then again, Penny is more than that, even before becoming the Winter Maiden. With Pietro sacrificing his aura to create Penny, she is living robot. I had two thought and examples with her: X from _Mega Man X_ series and Daryl from the movie, _D.A.R.Y.L._ With X, I recall what is described about his in the first game: _X is the first of a new generations of robots, with the ability to think, feel, and make their own decisions._ And a quote from the movie: _”A robot becomes human when even a doctor can’t tell the difference.”_ As adamant and harsh as it was for Pietro to want Penny to leave, it turns out that if Penny wasn’t there, then he and Maria would have to deal with Cinder…so, blessing in disguise? Hindsight? -Cinder Falls…again _“I would like for you to explain to me how it is you failed so spectacularly.”_ (Salem) Actually, this is worse than failure, because she wasn’t even supposed to be there. Salem made it clear that she wasn’t supposed to go anywhere and she disobeyed her. For her, that would have been enough. But even worse was the fact that not only did she fail in her objective, she got beaten by a Maiden…again. Her only victory was the one was against Amber, when she became the Fall Usurper. The Spring Maiden, Raven, defeated her. The previous Winter Maiden, Fria, was too powerful to stop her, and now the current Winter Maiden, Penny, blasted her out (Seriously, I saw that scene and I thought about the _Infinity: Proton Cannon_ super move of _Iron Man_ in the _Marvel Super Heroes_ fighting video game). At least we have a confirmation in part on Cinder’s motivations. After many expected and indicated, Cinder doesn’t truly serve Salem. She only follows Salem purely because she wants the power of the Maidens. And in return, she can give Salem the Relics because that is what Salem wants. An even trade… Except, you’re dealing with Salem… Given Penny’s fall and the events after, it will take a longer time to retrieve the Relic since the status of the Winter Maiden is unknown. And again, this is because she disobeyed a direct order from Salem. No doubt, this won’t go well with her in the next chapter. -Once a Reaper, always a Reaper… _“…and we gained a defenseless old lady!”_ (Yang - V6) Looking at this chapter, I don’t know if that comment is irony or plain comedy. How is Maria still so awesome?! Seriously, you would think that her role now would be like advisor of sort, like most elders in animation. Her using the mech was cool enough (Yes, I definitely saw/heard the _Aliens_ reference), but when it was disabled and Neo threw her out of it, I thought, okay, that’s it. And then she slid on her feet, grinning… And then the fight… How do you even…? Now we know why Qrow idolized her and the stories he heard. She, an elderly woman, was capable of holding her own against one of the most OP characters (as far as melee combat is concerned) in RWBY, a character who completely owned Yang, matched skill with a Maiden (Usurper), tricked and bested a group of Huntsmen/Huntress/Oscar, all the while, laughing and grinning. And I think this is the first time Neo was put down to the floor without recovery. One of the finest Huntresses in her generation… It makes one wonders how good the others were… -Short sightedness I don’t know who messed up more, Cinder or Ironwood. Even though Ironwood was alerted about the actions of Amity, he was only concerned about controlling Penny. And the same thought continued after the Remnant message aired. Despite Ruby’s words against him, he wasn’t concerned about them or even the fact that Amity was active (as far as he knows). He was just focused on taking control of Penny to have control of the vault and the Relic. It was as Glynda had spoken about him in Volume 2, only to the extreme. _“You’ve always done what you think is best for the people, even against strong protest.”_ And throughout the previous Volume, he has repeatedly says that he doesn’t care about his reputation. So he’s not even thinking about reuniting Remnant. All he wants to do is defeat Salem, ignoring the fact that without the rest of the world onboard in the fight, he will lose. But that short-sightedness is even worse. How can you even think to rely, even remotely, someone who has already done more damage to him than anything? The same guy that was partly responsible for the fall of Beacon, which put Atlas in a bad light in the first place? And Ironwood trusts him enough to take control of Penny, now the Winter Maiden and thus a far more powerful piece on the chessboard? It’s asinine… The only silver lining (if you can call it that) is that Cinder’s actions threw him off partly. A few reactors linked it to the River Styx from Greek mythology, but when I saw it, I thought about the river of slime in _Ghostbusters 2._ After further thought, it fits in more than I thought. In the story, the team is fighting a ghostly warlord who plans on taking over the city (and the world, naturally). Part of his plan is to use the negative emotions of New York City to convert it into slime which would eventual rise up as ghosts. Due to the abundant negative emotions of the city, the slime flows as a river. Negative emotions… A river threatening the city… Also a similarity is that for then to fight back, they needed something that can draw up positive emotions. A symbol… Something that can bring out the best of people… Something decent… Something pure… Something… like a certain emerald-color statue… Or in the case of RWBY, a certain silver-eyed Huntress… RWBY quote of the chapter _“I don’t care about the big picture! Is it just me or has Cinder become a worse version of Starscream from transformers, I mean seriously can she be anymore overt in her plans to try and betray Salem which she will fail at horribly. Speaking of Salem I think Ruby's transmission isn't going to have the effect she wants and will help Salem in the long term. Ruby seems to have forgotten one major detail in Ironwood's old plan to spread the message about Salem, the Atlas military would have been on standby to help. Vale is still dealing with the Grimm from the Fall of Beacon and Mistral is still dealing with a severe lack of Hunters due to Lionheart's betrayal and having way too much territory to defend. Even if they had people to turn too for more information it won't stop the mass panic and potential riots, because while a person is maybe smart people are dumb vicious animals willing to tear each other apart at the drop of a hat to paraphrase Agent K from MiB One.

One more thing, I love the idea of the river of Grimm and it made me think of a theory. Remember back in volume 6 where Salem was making her troop of flying Gorillas and how low the Pool of Destruction looked, what if she had tunneler grimm dig a path from the Pool to Solitas?

Neo *had* to come, she's the only pilot. I always thought Emerald's semblance works on the brain, not the eyes; but then, how does it work on Penny? Still, awesome fight, full of strengths and weaknesses. Wish we'd seen all of team SNNN, and CFVY, in Vacuo. Here's hoping they and the 'New Fang' or whatever Ghira's calling it come to the rescue. I'd been hoping Tai and Raven were doing something proactive by now, but I guess Raven still cares more about her tribe than anything. Now, if only Ironwood would start *thinking* again... or his minions, for that matter... nope, doesn't look like it.

Penny truly is a one of a kind soul, you should SERIOUSLY check out the RWBY visual novel JPDE. It's not canon, but...Honestly, it's arguably better than canon and the date scenes are so...in character and the character growth feels so nice you want to see more and more! You even want to get with these characters and the new characters, one of them being /player/ no less, all have special unique stories that makes you feel for and love them. Give it a chance to see what it's like playing a RWBY story where Penny isn't just a touching and most amazing secondary character, but actually one of the main characters. It's worth your time and is an underrated RWBY visual novel that deserves love and support. It even supports Polyamory relationships!

I feel like Volume 3 made me numb and unable to feel. 😞 I laugh at the funny parts, cheered at the awesome parts (including the shish-kabobing of Adam), and smiled at the heartwarming parts. But after feeling sad at the sad parts in Volume 3, I feel numb at them in later volumes. No idea why. Maybe my body is trying to "protect" me from the sad parts?

Seeing that Amity was kind of afloat already and far away, I assume they took an airship. That's how Ironwood and Watts got there last volume. As for the long term, the plan was probably just to bunker up there for a while. I don't think anybody but Salem has an actual long term plan right now.
