Ireland's level is incredible. They're very competitive and have had an increasing level as the matches go by. Many people have said SA vs FRA is the quater-finals match but i think the most interesting will be NZ vs IRE. Greetings from Mexico.

As an Irish fan we're just delighted to be in contention with a team playing with confidence. NZ are royalty at this level and unlike the boks I think they've more ways to win the game just on natural talent and instinct. Should be a great game and a contrast to FRA v SA a day later. COYBIG!

ABs have to have Fainga'anuku over ALB on the bench...injury cover scenarios: 1. Jordie Barrett injury: Will Jordan drops back to Fullback and Beauden, Reiko and Fainga'anuku switch it in the midfield out to right wing (switching positions depending on how they read the defence)... probably: 12 Fainga'anuku (power and defensive cover), 13 Beauden (kicking), 14 Reiko (speed) 2. Talea injured: Fainga'anuku straight swap 3. Reiko injured: Fainga'anuku straight swap 4. Will Jordan injured: Fainga'anuku straight swap 5. Beauden injured: Mackenzie straight swap 6. @@22grena My guess, as a scot, is because Ireland have been so utterly dominant over us in recent years. They have handed us some batterings and even when we are at the top of our game they can beat us. They are the real deal, we are the pretenders. That has a mental hold over some. All in my humble, uninformed opinion of course.

The Ire v NZ game will go down to the wire. Each team has great players all across the park with top skill sets and tactics and any one of those players can produce just one moment of magic to win this game. However, I think this game will come down to fine margins and those fine margins will be the mindsets of each team. Ireland are coming into this game on the back of 17 wins in a row (which includes beating the best out there), conceding very few tries and scoring many, confidence and belief are through the roof, a QF monkey on our backs that needs to be buried once and for all and who better to do that than against NZ, 65-70k Irish fans in the stadium singing "The Fields of Athenry" and "Zombie". That's half the battle or maybe more right there. On the other hand, NZ have won the RC comprehensively but tripped up big time against the other top two teams and this is going to be the biggest test they have faced in a long time. Can they do it? Yes. But I think they will be very nervous and Ireland have the edge here. They have the swagger that NZ had 10 or 15 years ago and have a will and determination to win. That I think will be deciding factor. Then again I could be wrong and NZ could whip our arses like they did 4 years ago LOL. Bring it on. Should be a classic.

Lads why are we spending 15mins talking about what back combinations will win this game??! Again this is the problem with the current team under foster it’s all about the backs?! Games are won up front.period. This game will be won up front and through the middle. We don’t win that, we don’t win it’s that simple. Ireland and South Africa are the best in the world because they have the best tight 5’s in the world. What gives us a chance is that individually I think we still have more players that are better than their opposition. However collectively they are better than us. So I believe all the AB’s need to do is keep it simple. Play aggressive, win collisions, stay disciplined and the opportunities will come. Again this is World Cup rugby! We are the only top 4 nation that just doesn’t seem to get that!!? Keep it simple stupid 🖤

Lads needed to harden up. AB's lack aggression in the contact area. In this arena most people close their eyes prior to the contact. This is a mistake. You can't dominate what you can't see. Jonah, initiated the contact rather than allow opponents to do so. His success was because his opponents weren't paying attention in the contact. You don't have to be Jonah to do this. You just need to know how to shape your opponents response.

On the other hand, this All Blacks side have shown they can implode under pressure. Take each teams' last game against the Springboks when things didn't go their way at the start of the game. The ABs get repeated infringements at the lineout and end up with a man in the bin, their captain rather than being an example then gets himself in the bin, and the first card comes back to haunt them when Barret needlesly drives into Marx on the ground and gets a red. A few weeks later, Ireland play the Springboks, lose 5/6 of their first lineouts, an area they usually pride themselves on, but then they do what this Ireland team has done many times, they adjusted. They reduced the numbers and increased the movement, they lost only 1 more lineout in the game. Both teams have a lot of pressure in this game, everyone talks about Ireland's. But this All Black side is staring down the reality of being the worst side NZ has ever sent to a RWC and they need to win a match where they're the underdogs to stop that happening. If I had to bet, I'd say Cane is going to get sent off at some point

I'm so torn between the ABs & Ireland. I want Nz to win, but would feel so bad for IRE if they lost in the quarter finals again. It would be two WCs in a row where they went in as favorites, world #1 and then lost to NZ in the quarter finals. I know this must be in their minds. Probably more than the series win in NZ. I think I'd feel less upset about the ABs losing, than I would if IRE lost. I'm actually lowkey rooting for Wales to be in the final. You know everyone is saying the pressure it’s on Ireland, and it is. Best team ever number one in the world but there is a hoodoo about knockout rugby. On the other hand there’s immense pressure on the all blacks, probably in a par with the 2007 side who were consistently the best team in the world but hadn’t won a RWC in 20 years. But this pressure is the exact opposite, lose this weekend and they are undeniably the least successful AB World Cup squad ever. In the last few years, this Ireland team have shown they can handle pressure while these All Blacks have repeatedly buckled against Ireland, South Africa and France. If this match is about who wilts, for probably the first time ever, I wouldn’t bet on it being Ireland
@hwy1983
@hwy1983 11 ай бұрын
Possibly contributing to wilt is the attitude that these players and coaches who work hard and risk much aren't permitted by all the fans to be mortal because, based on a quick survey of comments to videos about other top tier teams, New Zealand generates the nastiest, most conditional, personal ego-driven comments in the rugby world. It's been that way for years. Even if the All Blacks lost every game for the next decade I'd admire them for their willingness to lay their bodies down for all of us though only some try to be constructive in their support. That's heroic whether you recognize it or not. People think retired ABs leave to play for other countries for the relative ease and better money, but think what a personal relief to get out from under the slavering wolves of unreasonable expectation.

You can feel the pain of Bryn. Poor guy. But he may not be wrong and Ireland may win. They have played two top five ranked teams and won both while NZ has played one top five ranked team and lost. Also, are Ireland more battle hardened than NZ coming into this game? Considering the last couple of games Ireland had played compared to NZ's games against Namibia, Uruguay and especially Italy. Although Ireland do have some injuries in key areas, but they also do have depth. So interesting times ahead.

I think what creates the most doubt in me that we’ll get up for this was our second half against France. We believe the ABs can just turn it on when they want to, but they haven’t proven that recently and it may be the final nail in our coffin for the last few years. ABs to get up though, hahaha!

New Zealand has been a pretty ordinary team since 2018. England humiliated them in 2019 World Cup and France did the same to them this World Cup. They have ever since been able to beat some second and third tier teams but Ireland will demolish them today. Brazil used to dominate football between 1958 to 2002, but they are now too easy to beat. Australia and Germany used to win all the medals at the Olympics but now they hardly able to get a couple each. Things have changed and this is now 1987.

For me if both wingers are iffy there than go for the most benefit on attack, for me put more power on the wing with Leicester, I remember a inform Julian Savea with his power in 2015 QF. Interesting to see if they do anything there for a point of difference

I hope the referee stops the Irish obstruction dummy runners running in front of the ball on attack in numbers, and obstructing / shepherding the defence. All sides do it to a degree in today’s game, but the Irish are using 2/3/4 dummy runners on most back line attacks. Look at all of their back line tries against Scotland, and they did it. Back when I played, it was penalized immediately as obstruction. And the intention of obstructing a defending player from making a tackle is still a penalty offense in the modern rules today..
@JayP744
@JayP744 11 ай бұрын
Agree 100%. Was amazed to see them doing it time and time again with dummy runners even running into tacklers. It is clear obstruction and if I were Foster I would raise this issue with the refs

Only if the attacking decoy players are obstructing defenders should the referee start penalizing the attack e.g. actual physical contact or attacking decoy running lines obstructing defense running lines when in no way is the attacking decoy running line a support line
@peadarr

There’s 2 things needed for obstruction, an attempted tackle to be blocked and for the dummy runner to not be a viable receiver. There’s not a lot of times where both these are true.

I agree that dummy runners are getting a bit over the top in the modern game. They arent always directly taking out players but are definitely getting in the way and obstructing running lines for defenders. It's not illegal but its cheesy negative play I think.

All the panellists were absolutely confident South Africa would win and even after half time they felt South Africa would win. Is that arrogance? People making excuses for what team they support.
