I honestly think Season 5 was supposed to introduce the Culdee Fell railway, given the fact that Culdee was featured in an unusual amount of merch throughout the late 90's (some with Shining Time branding no less) and the Narrow Gauge railways seemed a lot more mountainous in S5, making me think those sets were originally meant to be Culdee Fell. Since Season 4 introduced the Skarloey and Mid-Sodor Railways, introducing Culdee Fell in Season 5 would've made sense as a followup. When Allcroft and Awdry had their falling out, it probably prevented that from happening.

I agree with all the characters you mentioned. I've also discovered an episode form the classic series that I think you could do a video on. It's called Emily and the Special Coaches. In it Gordon has set a new record and Sir Topham Hatt has two express coaches painted in a blue livery with red and yellow stripes to present to Gordon as a reward and asks Emily to pick them and deliver them to the station where the ceremony is take place. On the way Emily meets Diesel who says that there is another record on Sodor, but Emily rudely dismisses him calling him a smelly old diesel. This actually hurts Diesel's feelings and whenever Diesel tries to talk to Emily, she just brushes him off. Finally Diesel winds up stealing the special coaches, telling Thomas that he was the one to pick up and deliver the coaches. Emily then goes to fetch STH who gets aboard Emily and they manage to track down Diesel whose engine is nearly failed due to it being old. When confronted Diesel says he left the coaches on a siding and will only tell Emily the exact location if she will listen to what diesel was trying to say. It turns out Diesel also set a record for the most freight cars shunted in one day. Emily then feels bad, but then gets an idea which she tells STH who agrees. As Gordon is presented with his special coaches, Diesel is presented with a new engine to replace his old one. It is the first Thomas episode where Diesel's character is given more depth, and shows how he can be more than just an antagonistic bully who picks on the steam engines and gets into trouble

CFR Engines: I disagree, actually. The only RWS book they are featured in was very obviously written as a one-off (even supposed to be as such by Chris Awdry), and although it would be "cool" to have them in the TVS, I think a lot more setup would be necessary before these guys got into the show. It's also worth noting that every episode involving them having some connection to our main characters (Granpuff style) would get old FAST, and would also become harder to do, unlike the SKR engines who can interact with our main cast at Crovan's Gate and a few other places in the HiT era as well. It would be cool for a time, but I think they'd come and go as quickly as the likes of Bertram - an interesting oddity. The Big City Engine: Yes, absolutely. It would be interesting to see him interact with Gordon and also Murdoch would be cool. He could fulfil a role where Spencer wouldn't quite work. I'm always eagerto see mainland engines more in the show, but he would work best as a minor character, maybe occasionally with an episode as a secondary. Jinty and Pug: Mayyyybbbeeee. I'm gonna get hated for this, but again, they did what they needed to and then left. They don't have the cool design of the Big City Engine to back themselves up, but if the writers could come up with some good and distinct personalities for them, I would take it. Wilbert/Sixteen: YES. Out of all the characters on your list, I find these two to be the best picks. I actually think Sixteen would be a strong villain character, and Wilbert was pretty strong in his introductory book, and I think he could be used somewhat like Stepney - he could appear in adaptations of his book, and then appear sometimes as a character with a smaller role. I think he would be the perfect character to experiment with some interesting moral ideas. He's an austerity engine, and it would be cool to see episodes featuring him wondering how he can be different and not just be a cheap model churned out like all the others. I AM SO DOWN FOR THIS. Bear: Yes, I think I'd agree with this. I'd love to see a Super Rescue adaptation in CGI, and this would be a good intro for Bear. He would work well as long as they experimented well with his dynamics, and made sure he wasn't a Boco mark two - loved, but ultimately thrown under the bus because he doesn't have a jazzy personality or some stupidly colourful design. Jock: Hmmmmyeah... I'd like to see this, but only if we got a few things first. Firstly, more setup with the smallies. We would need more time to cement their dynamics and traits and then drop Jock and Frank into the mix. I would say Jock would fit quite well in a Season 3 kind of story, and I think there are characters I would adapt first. Speaking of: I'd love to see Toby's Brothers, it would create interesting opportunities for our favourite tram that we haven't seen in a long time. Other picks include the Ministry of Defence engine, and maybe Victoria as well (or bring back Old Slow Coach like I suggested in my latest video). Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

An interesting choice of characters. I would have liked to see Adams the Adams Radial Tank in the series (a bit of a weird choice) but the reason being that I would find it a great way to have more character development with the the Great Western Engines Duck and Oliver as the LSWR and GWR had a massive rivalry during the pre-grouping days and it would be interesting to see how each character would act accordingly as to which railway is better. Maybe Adams is a visiting engine or something but he would be my weird choice. Excellent video though, I thoroughly enjoyed it

Thing about the culdee fell is it didn't have much presence in the railway series. Also, mountain railways have a lot of safety protocalls due to their danger, and given a lot of thomas and friends stories involve some sort of incident it would be very hard to justify having them when very few stories could be made with them.
@matthewpowell24292 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with your choices. The Mountain Engines would've helped with the problem of leaving out the Peel Godred Branch, the Big City Engine (Randolph as named by Victor Tanzig) would've made a great rival for Gordon, the events of Thomas and the Letter weren't right without Jinty (Justin) and Pug (Paul) to show the existence of British Railways, Wilbert would've made a great symbol to Awdry in the TV Series, Bear was a favorite Diesel character of mine who was immediately on the steam engines' side without a story arc needed, and the Arlesdale Railway just isn't the same without Jock or the other little engines in the picture.

Super Rescue is honestly the BEST RWS story, it would have been great to adapt so we could get Bear as a new friendly diesel with D199 as a recurring "villain" so all the burden isn't put on Diesel and D261. Here are my thoughts, The Mountain Engines definitely should be on the show, and it’s a shame Brenner never got to introduce them during his tenure (thanks Mattel!). It’s understandable why they wouldn’t have been in the model series since they’d admittedly be difficult to depict in that format. The CGI adaptation of the Arlesdale Engines was excellent and it’s a shame the Culdee Fell engines never got the same treatment. D199 and Bear would be good, Calling All Engines would’ve been a great time to introduce them! Wilbur and 16 would’ve been super easy to do in model form. Big City Engine would’ve been fine, but one reason that episode was cancelled, is because Britt didn’t think kids would get the joke/reference that the story builds up to, which is understandable. Funny, I actually had the ERTL toys of Godred, D199, Wilbert, and 16 as a kid, and I often wondered why I never saw them on any of my Thomas VHS tapes...,
