You talked a bit about the budget and while agree that they were quite ambitious, we gotta remember that it’s not necessarily the filmmakers’ fault that they didn’t get enough money to accomplish what they wanted. Amazon and the producers are guilty of that. The director had to look for investors himself because the studio wasn’t giving them the money they deserved

OK I actually love watching the shot of him, holding his hand while they’re “making love😂” simply, because if you pay close attention, Henrys very hesitant about holding Alex’s hand through out the movie and they were a few times, where he actually allows it. Which I think adds to the movie and makes sense as to why they focused on that shot as long as they did. I love this movie and I’ve only see it once but it’s such a good movie!! fantastic job!

You will like "The Waterloo letters" name for the emails significantly more when you read the book and find out exactly WHY they're calling it The Waterloo Letters. Henry says something very specific, one time, it's not even something that gets repeatedly a couple times ...and they clung on to that for some reason and made it the title of the collection of letters lmao. Don't get me wrong... Henry said something EXTREMELY romantic.... But it was just the one email that it was said in. But yeah, even though that email was not said in the movie... the movie kind of paid homage to that by naming the children's hospital Waterloo hospital or somthing like that... So they tried to make it work even if they weren't able to put that email in the movie.

@@Meleninmoneal03 100% I was kind of upset that they didn't really get to put many of the emails into the movie ...they weren't even able to add any of the historic queer quotes at the end of the emails.... They were peak romance and banter, IMO. So good... I mean don't get me wrong the movie was able to convey Henry being super duper romantic but it wasn't enough of the emails, ya know? But I understand that there was a time constraint...just sucks a bit it wasn't included more as the emails were a decently big thing in the book... It was definitely a focus in the book....that wasn't able to be fleshed out as fully in movie.

Fun reaction. You mention the book not being in your “age range,” but it’s considered New Adult usually. Maybe the cover gave young adult vibes, but it’s def not for anyone too young (the the s** scenes aren’t too explicit). The book gives a lot more character growth & allows the secondary characters more room to shine. Plus Alex has a sister (who was kind of combined with Nora for casting). It also gives way more context to the journalist who has a more complicated role that was merged with a more antagonistic character. The king is also a Queen in the book & you get to meet Henry’s mom (& way more of his sister, whom I really liked in the book too).

The tune Alex plays is an American song "My Country Tis of Thee" it's just that we also use the same tune for "God Save the King" (as do a number of other countries for various patriotic songs). My rationale is it's reflecting the US/UK connection in their own story. As I understand it the origin of that tune is a bit murky, but it's almost certainly English in origin, but predates the better known songs.

Zahra is responsible for Alex's schedule and appearances, and she NEEDS to know who he's hooking up with since they have to sign an NDA. So her reaction is more from "this is really making it difficult to do my freakin job", not that she cares that Alex is with a guy. I really do wish they were given the budget they needed and deserved for this movie, but they did a great job with the resources they had! I hope this leads to Amazon backing up more movies like this in the future

You're not the only person to notice that Nicholas suddenly went a bit American when he said Henry's name. So odd how those American Rs suddenly come in! My best guesses are that he's easily influenced by other people's accents and was picking up on Taylor's or he had recently been doing an American accent for another role. Also thank you for picking up on the security taking down a child in the hospital! I don't think I've seen anyone else mention that.

It was the first time that I saw this gay s*e*x scene so beautiful. Most of them are very quick and rushy. And from behind! It really showed that it was the first time for Alex ,and the first time for Henry with the one he is in love with. I have red the book last year. I mean... great adaptation from the book. The raft scene is related to one of the deleted scenes. The night before Henry, in story form, says that there was a prince with his heart outside his body; and to protect his heart the king gave him an armor. When he meets a devastatingly handsome young peasant boy, who says the most ghastly things to him, he feels alive for the first time in his life, and realize that for his protection the price he had to pay was his freedom. Little by little the young peasant took apart the armor until he was left with only the part that protected his heart. On the raft, when Alex tries to tell him how in love he is, it is as if that last piece had fallen (when he is in the water he puts his hands over his heart) and there is the fear of not being able to show himself in public and what it is to feel his heart free and unprotected. In the book this is one of the emails.

Yeah the budget for the movie was looowww. A lot of fans really really wanted a miniseries rather than a movie because a lot of the stuff in the book they just didn't have time to get into and so it isn't a very faithful adaptation for that reason. They did great job zooming in and focussing just on Henrietta Alex and they got the characterization of those two characters pretty decently.... I'd say movieAlex is more different to his book counterpart than Henry is to his book counterpart. But there's a lot of stuff that is also happening AROUND Henry and Alex in the book. But they would have had the time to explore everything and make a much more faithful adaptation if it was a miniseries... But they didn't have enough funding for a miniseries so...the movie was what had to be made, unfortunately(and it's really such a shame that Prime gave the Summer I Turned Pretty all of their Taylor Swift song money. Because these two characters are SO extremely Taylor Swift coded I cant---)... And yeah you can tell that it wasn't a very high budget movie because there's no crowds and the green screen is kind of iffy... And the set design is slightly sparse... The low budget of the movie really shows in some moments... But I think the acting and costuming kind of makes up for it. IMO.

Sorry Rebecca don't mean to harsh your commentary, but as someone with a vision impairment I can speak for people with vision impairment or who are blind and I have to say that not all apps allow audio descriptions for their TV shows and the ones that do aren't always that great, and as someone with a brain related vision impairment from birth, who can still see well enough without the audio description, I have to actually disagree because while some movies make the text big, it's still nice to hear it read out loud for that small portion of the film or TV show, this is not a grip with you just with how they do the audio description, but I think there should be an option for it to only read out when there's words on the screen like a place name or text messages etc, but not have audio description for all the other visual stuff unless the person wants it and it's either all audio description for every minute facial expression and gesture etc or nothing and while having an audio description for every single thing on screen is good for someone completely blind, for someone like me who still has enough vision to see what's happening on the screen, but just struggles to read text, it would be nice if there was a good Inbetween and I thought this film did a good job at that by having the characters say what they're typing I know it might be a bit weird but it's actually very helpful. So while I know this doesn't have much to do with your commentary, I just wanted to put it out there because I found it helpful, since not a lot of films or TV shows do that nowadays with the text appearing on the screen, some of them don't even do that and just show the phone which is even worse and very annoying, I know at least for me it's quite frustrating when I can't read the text appearing on the screen, because sometimes you miss important parts of the episode or film when you can't read the writing, again this is nothing to do with you but Morceau to do with the streaming services only having the one option for audio description to have it not on at all or on fully for every single thing on the screen, when majority of us really only need it for when text appears, also want to just quickly apologise to any fully blind people watching this because I know that they need the full audio description to watch shows and movies, but yeah I just think it would be really nice and helpful to have two options one for just text appearing on the screen and one for full audio description for the people that need it.

Sadly in the current political climate, a female Democrat with a bi son wouldn't win Texas (I live in a pretty red party of Texas). I think it's supposed to show that if we targeted the youth vote and thirsts new voters they'd have a chance, but we'd also have to deal with the vote suppression and gerrymandering. Not to mention the electoral college bs. Biden got over 40 percent of tx votes last election, but Trump got 100 percent of our votes in the electoral college who actually chooses the president, bc you only have to get half the popular vote here. Texas is a lot more purple (mixed) than people like to realize (even a lot of the people who live here) but it's got some battles to face before it can flip.

Loved your reaction btw, and loved the chemistry in this movie. They acted as hard as if they had the budget they deserved.

I honestly love the authenticity of the sexual aspect of queer relationships, no disrespect to my ace friends in the community but i'm tired of the "sanitized straight gay teen" shows

Wdym the book is not in your age range?🤔 You don't look that old at all Btw the movie is good, it's nice to see people who didn't read the book react to it even though at first it was mostly disappointing seeing how much they cut from the book. I still enjoy it and I've already watched it 5 times but I see it more as a collection of moments from the book more than a complete story. Idk if that makes sense. I was worried people were going to hate on it but I guess as long as there's a gay romance most people can ignore the lack of development😭
