Yep, NASCAR races are in general around one-hundred, two-hundred laps, depending on the number of miles the race is and how long the track is. The Indianapolis 500 is, of course, five hundred miles and two-hundred 2.5 mile laps. Did you notice the Miata twins flashed their headlights at him? 😁 Yeah, there are a lot of Pixar Easter Eggs in this movie. "Life is a Highway" was written in 1991. Yep, Route 66 - "The Mother Road" - was/is a famous highway in the United States. It's been supplanted by the interstates, but large sections of it still exist. The buildings and locations in this film are based on real-life Route 66 buildings and locations, though they're not all together like this in one town.

A LOT of racing/gearhead references and celebrities in this movie. Many racing legends voice Car versions of themselves, like Darrell Waltrip, Richard "The King" Petty, Michael Schumacher, and Mario Andretti, alongside sportscaster Bob Costas, Jay Leno, and radio personalities Tom and Ray Magliozzi. Even Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson voiced Lightning's agent Harv in the UK release (the normal English version is Jeremy Piven in reference to his agent role in "Entourage"). The Piston Cup comes from the fact that the NASCAR trophy was called the Winston Cup for years until laws against tobacco advertising to minors led the league to change sponsorship to cell phone carriers. At the time the movie came out it was the Sprint Cup. Now it's the T-Mobile Cup. The LA Coliseum was built for the 1984 Summer Olympics for the Track and Field events. It was converted to an asphalt track in the 90s, and now NASCAR holds the "Clash at the Coliseum," a 150-lap exhibition race before the season opener in Daytona, Florida. The Coliseum has a short track so that's why it's only an exhibition race.

About all those laps, yes, that is a real thing. There are endurance races, that test cars, and their team of drivers and support crew. NASCAR dosen't just do oval circuit endurance races, but that's what they're most known for I think. There's also the 24 hours of Le Mans. Great endurance race. In some racing simulators, like Gran Tourismo 4, even have endurance races, where you play as A driver, the car tuner, and the crew chief. It's not just your driving skill, you also have to stratigize when to change tires, what kind of tires to use, when to refuel, how hard to push the car, and when you sleep, and let your other drivers take over. Leaving the game on, not knowing what situation you'll wake up to. LOL. In the movie, Lightning took the gamble, to not change tires, so his pitstops would be quicker then everyone else, for him to catch up, after the green car spun him off the track. But he was so arrogant, he kept working those tires too hard, even after he built a massive gap between him and the cars behind him. Then the tires popped, leading to the events of the rest of the movie. And we don't just have endurance racing like that. Even though, we don't have our own equivalent of the Nurburgring, sadly, to my knowledge, we have no place exactly like "The green hell". The USA isn't all about drag racing and oval tracks. We have nice complicated tracks too, like Leguna Seca, with it's elevation changes, and infamous Cork Screw. There are other great tracks too, but I'm more interested in night street racing, autocross, gymkhana, and off-roading. We also have Time Attack events here, powerful cars with crazy aerodynamic body kits and upside-down wings to push them and their tires into the ground, to keep them from sliding off the track, as they try to post the quickest lap record. We also have the great, and diverse Pikes Peak International Hillclimb which is another Time Attack event, but up a Mountain Road. The event is also called The Race to the Clouds. I guess thats our Nurburg. Like the Nurburgring Nordschleife, the Pikes Peak Hillclimb highway is amazing, at times open to the public, and, it's dangerous. But a great experience.

Such an underrated masterpiece imo. I used to watch this all the time with my brother when he was tiny, so this video brought back a bunch of memories. Bruv is 17 now and won't even talk to me, and he doesn't seem to care about this film anymore, whereas I, a 24yo autistic girl, can still quote nearly the entire thing word for word. When Cars 3 was in cinemas, we actually went to see it towards the end of its run, so it was literally just the two of us in there. I don't care what people say, the Cars franchise was one of the few things my little brother and I shared back when he would talk to me, and I hope we can still have that one day when he grows up and comes to his senses. I wonder... if a new Cars film were to be released, would it bring this sibling duo back...

Route 66, or "the Mother Road," was the cross-continental highway from Chicago to Los Angeles that was heavily used for western migration in the mid-20th century and became famous for its scenic path through the deserts of the Southwest. It was eventually decommissioned with the creation of the Interstate Highway System, but small portions of it have been preserved as historic landmarks. I've driven on the portion of it near Albuquerque that runs parallel to I-40.

If you're any kind of gearhead or race fan, there are so many nods and easter eggs to experience! A bit of trivia for this. The director, John Lasseter, is one of the founders of Pixar. Developing these animated features takes about four times the amount of time needed to write and produce a live action movie. And he was at the helm when they made their first two movies, Toy Story and A Bug's Life. He and his wife had two sons during all of that and Lasseter was very hands on. His wife pulled him aside most of the way through making A Bug's Life and told him that basically he was missing his kids growing up, and he needed to be around more. So after that film wrapped, he took his family on vacation. One thing he really enjoyed when he was a boy, was going on road trips with his family. So he bought a used motorhome, and they just traveled. In addition to having a good time, living in an RV brought his family closer together. This was the seed from which Cars grew. I love this movie! I love driving and traveling, and this movie sings to my soul! Glad you love it too!

The fabulous Hudson Hornet was a real phenomenon in early American stock racing. They dominated early dirt track racing with their advanced (for the time) twin carbureted inline 6 cylinder engine. The two most famous drives and real NASCAR legends Marshall Teague and Herb Thomas were some of the best drivers for the time. The hornet would rule the tracks from 1951-1955, until Chrysler and Dodge would make cars that could outperform Hudson and their fabulous hornet. Following its loss of ability to win races, and driver Herb Thomas's crash that left him in a coma, it fell off not only in the racing world but also in the domestic market. With the loss of sales Hudson would soon close it's doors for good, leaving the brand as an important but often forgotten legacy of 1950's car design.
