What an amazing catch! Wim Wenders filmed this in a beautiful, unobtrusive and gentle way. Ry Cooder acted in time to catch these outstanding musicians. Love to all the musicians of Cuba. You are all amazing. This is a gem.

The Buena Vista Social Club phenomenon was simply amazing. Thank you Wim, Ry and Nick Gold for your efforts that showed the world the treasure that was hiding in Cuba. The "shoe shiner" they referred to was Ibrahim Ferrer. In his final years he got to record several albums and tour right around the world displaying his incredible talent. I'm so glad i got to see him live 2 times and shake his hand. He is truly missed but his angelic voice lives on forever. Check out his version of "Dos Gardenias". Pure magic.

On a flight back from Mexico I saw the movie. Became hooked. Took a copy to Cuba on Jan. 2000. It was amazing that they new nothing about the movie. They started telling me about the background of each musician and I was amazed they were silenced and had buried such a unique treasure.

I’m a BIG fan of Cuban music, I was born and raised there, I remember Ibrahim Ferrer singing with Los Bocucos and Compay Segundo over the radio waves in Santiago de Cuba with Los Compadres, Ibrahim and Compay ( Francisco Repilado ) we’re born in San Luis and Siboney respectively In Santiago de Cuba province where I also were born and raised, last time I went to Stgo I went to visit Compay place of eternal rest in Santa Ifigenia cemetery. “ Las Flores de la Vida”

This album & documentary are among my favorites. The reaction (aah!) @5:27 by Cooder, when Charlie asked him about the Grammy, epitomizes what a true musicianship is all about & what Ry thought of the hype & celebrity status surrounding the entertainment business today. Great interview!

"Old people all over the world are often marginalized out of existence" I have often believed this to be true and now at 63 yrs of age I know it's true. Rye Cooder and Wim Wenders are true artists of a higher order!

I didn't know until today that Ry Cooder's left eye is a glass eye. (He had an accident with a knife when he was 4-years-old.) It's a great glass eye. Good to know they can fool you. I thought they were always noticeable.

I would recommend every music lover to watch BVSC. All the songs were fantastic but my favorite is "Chan chan" 😍 by Compay Segundo. Also one of the singers "Ibrahim Ferrer" collaborated later with Gorillaz for the song Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo)

And I love also a lot rubén Gonzalez at the piano. I saw them in the 90th in Germany live, Rubén could no more walk well, but his hands, his fingers.... amazing!

How has European rhythm has anything to do with Africa or Latin sounds. My spirit is touched by an internal drawing to a feeling. The classic symphony music has no effect to my internal spirit which emits happiness and joyous feelings
