Ryan Adams is famously prolific -- releasing, on average, an album a year alongside a bevy of EPs and live recordings. His latest effort is already a critical hit, but it's special for several other reasons. Not only is it the first album he's released after an unusual three-year pause, but it's also the follow to a different collection he recorded but ultimately shelved. It makes sense that the new record is self-titled: he recorded it on his own, in his new home studio, without the input of an outside producer.
