@@martindunstan8043 Health care should be paid by tax. In that way, everyone gets help wihtout being broke. It is a way to help eachother reach a decent level of civilization. What else is the purpose of society? The USA is a perfect example of that it doesn't help if people sue eachother. No more common sense in the USA. On the contrary, people take every chance to sue without reason in hope of cashing it big or they are too afraid to use this right in case it backfires. A quite nasty way to build a society if you ask me and not a place where I would like to live and I am in luck. I don't live there :)

In answer to your question, the 50 Shades books and movies are WILDLY inaccurate portrayals of the BDSM community. But less because they're "light" and more because they're actually abusive. BDSM partners have to respect each other's limits even more than people have "vanilla' (aka non-BDSM) sex because of how intense it can get. The Gray dude completely ignores the lead character's limits and frequently does things she doesn't want. So. Now you know, lol.

I'll say. The person who wrote the awful things needs help - or just first hand experience - if that is what she perceives as the bdsm lifestyle. Wife and I both started to read the first book. Got to second chapter, and realised where it was going. Couldn't / didn't need to read any more. How it became so damned popular is beyond our comprehension.

@@almostyummymummy Marketing. The damned thing was everywhere and I believe I saw something somewhere that the writer was in marketing. And just to add to the other comments, the books really absolutely do not represent actual BDSM, they instead portray an extremely abusive relationship. The books are full of inaccuracies about what BDSM is about - I don't think they got anything correct(!), and full of sexual, emotional and physical abuse, as well as damaging and untrue portrayals that people into BDSM must be "damaged" in some way. Plus the actual writing is terrible, and the whole thing is apparently actually a Twilight fanfiction that got spun into a huge money machine. Look up some Watts the Safeword, or some Kat Blaque videos or something

Having seen some comments in kink friendly spaces around when the awful fifty shades first came out, I think that it was still possible to find the original fanfic unedited version online! There was talk at some point too where the person who wrote the books admitted they had no interest or experience in anything BDSM (the shock 😲!!! Who'd have guessed!?!) And also were rather militant about shutting down any fanfic of their fanfic. It's crazy. And also disturbing to me tbh, people seeking out relationship like in the books when they were toxic and dangerous but they didn't know any better. Okay I'll put the soapbox away now!!

Fifty shades is not an accurate representation of a healthy BDSM relationship. In the movies there is lack of communication about what each partner consent to. The dom guy is manipulating and pressing the sub into acts she does not feel comfortable with and the whole relationship as portrayed feels abusive rather than respectful. I really disliked the movies for that reason. The guy was a total creep which made the movies very unsexy.
