I love all of autogyro!! The autogyro was invented by Spanish engineer Juan de la Cierva in an attempt to create an aircraft that could fly safely at low speeds. He first flew one on 9 January 1923.

I was surprised by how quiet the cabin seems. I’m curious as to why you don’t have the rotor turning prior to takeoff clearance and crossing the hood short line? Seems like an unnecessary amount of time sitting on the runway and unnecessary exposure.

@halfrhovsquared4 жыл бұрын
@@raoul8629 - No. I think you’ll find that’s coolant. He takes the cap off the oil reservoir just before he starts turning the prop and talks about pumping the oil out of the crankshaft to be able to dip it. This is called “burping the engine” because once the oil has all been transferred up to the reservoir, the pump starts sucking air and it burps/gurgles. That’s the point at which you can stop turning the prop and then dip the oil to check its level. He would not have topped off the oil before dipping it and the oil tank is not that high.

I hope someone can answer this for me. It appears to me that most gyroplanes are using the Rotax engines. They are awesome power plants, but has anyone tried the Honda or other automotive engines that would increase life of the engine and decrease maintenance costs. Also what is the speed restrictions for a gyroplane or can we fly these aircraft above 130 mph. Thanks
@kukolarik14 жыл бұрын
no idea about other motor then rotax, max speed limit, construction limit is 185km/h (115mph or 100kt)
@seikibrian86414 жыл бұрын
If you're flying under a Light Sport certificate, there's a legal speed limit, but if you're flying under a private license the primary restriction is design limits. Rotorcraft are slower than fixed wing aircraft because of various aerodynamic limits such as retreating blade stall. As for engines, gyroplanes have used everything from the little McCulloch '4318' engines used in Bensen Gyrocopters, to the big twin Armstrong Siddeley 'Mamba' engines used in the Fairey Rotodyne, and everything in between. Honda and Subaru engines have powered a number of experimental gyroplanes over the years, but Rotax engines just hit the sweet spot for light aircraft uses. Here's an example of an Air Command gyro powered by a Yamaha snowmobile engine conversion: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXeofKJ_lpWGapo

Nora Bazuin This is an Auto Gyro which means the top rotor is not powered. It’s literally a rotating wing that takes minimal forward momentum to begin auto drive. That means even if your engine (the back propeller) dies in mid flight, it keeps spinning until (close to) full stop when it lands.
@djviperx4 жыл бұрын
