Lee Van Cleef is great in TGTB&TU, but somehow even better in 'For A Few Dollars More'. Colonel Mortimer might be 1 of the smoothest badass characters in film history.

The second scene, with the introduction of Angel Eyes, was the direct inspiration for "Once Upon a Time in Nazi Occupied France" in Quentin Tarantino's _Inglorious Basterds_ .

The absolute must-see Westerns are: This, Once Upon A Time in The West, The Wild Bunch, Unforgiven, True Grit (2010), and Deadwood (TV series). Strong recommends, but optional: For a Few Dollars More, The Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider, Open Range, Tombstone.

Many call this a "revisionist" western, but for Sergio Leone it was a tribute to and a distillation of various elements from the old-fashioned classic American westerns he loved, especially those of John Ford. For his ultimate tribute to such films, the subsequent epic "Once Upon A Time In The West", he even took his cast and crew to America's Monument Valley, Ford's favorite location, to shoot some key scenes. Leone loved focusing on key ingredients of older westerns and exaggerating them to a rich cinematic excess.

here for this. Part 3 FYI Sergio is a BEAST. He got a 3 picture deal. A Fistfull of Dollars For a few Dollars More The Good the Bad the Ugly. Then he was released from his contract and he went on to make my favorite Western of all time. Once Upon a Time in the West. But.... The Great Silence is a close second. (Which is the film Quentin copied the flavor of for, "Hateful 8")

The scene with Tuco running through the cemetery is the best thing that cinema has ever done...

The actress who played Arch Denton, yes it was an actress, had in het will that her body should be part of a movie. One of the many back stories of the movie. Eli, who played Tuco improvised at least two scènes. One at the gun shop and the one in the bathtub. If you are amazed by this set. Watch once upon a time in the west. Its a great movie, with also interesting trivia like. Leone had made a hole village build just for one shot.

You should definitely watch 'The Magnificent Seven' (1960). It's the western version of Akira Kurosawa's 'Seven Samurai' which, if you haven't, you should also definitely watch at some point.

This is the 3rd movie in the 'Dollar Trilogie', where Clint Eastwood plays 'The Man with no name' as the name of his character is so rarely mentioned, it could have just as well be left out. One of many little details I like in this movie is that it is one of the few cases in movies when we get to see that the money has actual weight. Blondie and his horse show it. Fun Facts: 1. Prussia, which together with others became Germany had observers in the Civil War. 2. The Bridge got blown up twice. The Spanish Army added a lot of extras and they let the commander give the order. Problem was he wasn't familiar with movie lingo so the bridge was blown up with no camera going. Luckily no one got hurt. Embarrassed the Commander had his men rebuild the bridge just to have it blown up again. This time the cameras got it.

Guns will totally work underwater, or even in space. The cartridges have their own oxidizer in the gunpowder so they don't need access to air to fire. As long as the cartridge is properly sealed and the powder doesn't get wet it'll fire. Shooting underwater is highly ineffective though, as water is very dense and the bullet quickly expends all its energy so doesn't fly straight or for very long. If you want more westerns I'd recommend "The Magnificent Seven" (either the original or the remake, both are great), and "The Quick and The Dead".

Eli Wallach who played the ugly, had a hard time drawing his pistol from a holster that Sergio Leone practically said “to hell with it, just have the pistol hang on a piece of string!” He also almost got decapitated during the shooting of the train scene when he was handcuffed.

The riff on Clint's character is that , in the two films before this, Clint wears that worn poncho (FISTFUL OF DOLLARS and FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE ). This story is , in effect, the story of how " Blondie " starts out his life in Leone Land. People who see the films in order realize that moment when Clint finally shows up in the poncho...and in the theater, fans cheered.

2 other films are included in the (unofficial) Dollar Trilogy (as it was called) were marketed together after the release of all 3 films (mostly for TV) was quite effective. The films were not directly connected, but were similar enough to be put in sequence. This may be Leone's plan from the start, but was never official at the time of the films' release.

Tuco's gun, slung about his neck, hidden in the suds, was still above the water. Bath tubs of that sort usually didn't have much water in them, because you had to manually haul water up to them, especially on a second floor.

The first Sergio Leone movie I saw was Once Upon a Time in America. It's... memorable. If you're going to watch it, and I hope you will, please take a moment to choose which cut. The options should be 249 minutes (original runtime), 251 minutes (2012 Cannes runtime), 229 minutes (standard runtime) and 139 minutes (American release). The director was definitely not okay with the American version which is not only shorter but also reordered. Hopefully you'll have a choice. The movie is from 1984, and I don't know what versions are floating around in anno domini 2024.

Could you imagine living in this time period when just about every person you encounter is capable of doing anything to you because there was little to no law enforcement or consequences of just taking what you want and killing who you please. Honestly, that kind of anarchy probably does a society a lot of good in the long haul. It's a brutal dose of reality administered to those who live in delusion.
@Novaximus

I'll see it in women reactors a lot when they see a movie moment of injustice. They'll say something like, "really, those kids can just bully that guy and nobody says or does anything about i???!!" I hear it all the time. lol. Just 100 years ago the police weren't just a phone call and 15 minutes away. It takes a big man to cry but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man. You saw how "The Bad" slapped the ever lovin crap out of that lady? Yeah. You could be sitting at a Mcd's Saloon enjoying your lunch and any dude that next walks in that door could wind up doing that too you. And then that dude in the back of his mind always has to fear the bigger fish that'll do the same thing to him. If you had the balls enough to shoot someone, chances are everyone in that room will tip their hat down over their eyes and mind their own business cause they value their life more than the injustice. Unlike today's policy we're now told if you see a shooter and you can't flea, then you should rush them knowing you'll likely die anyways.
