Robert Storley I didn't notice that he draws and cuts with his left and paints with his right hand. I do the exact same thing although I am trying to make myself paint with my left hand because I should be able to paint better with my left hand because it is the hand I write with. I painted with my right hand when i used rattle cans and it stuck when I switched to airbrush. Even if I am writing something with the airbrush it comes out ok with my right hand if I try to write with a pen with my right hand good luck lol

Great video man! I've been in the RC hobby for 30 plus years but I've never done any airbrush work. I raced my RC10T a little bit back in the mid 90's and it was a blast! However, I dropped it to start building and racing my 1968 Dodge Dart drag car. I ended up having an accident on an ATC in 2000 that left me paralyzed from the chest down. But I made a special adaptive controller and I still enjoy driving my RC cars! Right now I have a 2wd brushless slash, a Tamiya land cruiser rock crawler and a TC4 that my friend is in the process of painting a 1970 Dodge Challenger body for... Although I don't get to drive them much I still enjoy collecting and customizing them! Anyways, thanks for the great video!

This video was SOOO awesome and helpful... up until now I have been using Tamiya tape for curves and blue painter's tape, and rattle cans... I may look into getting an air brush soon for fading colors or doing shadows and such... and eventually might look into trying the liquid mask as well. One thing you should try, before you do the final color, maybe try some Tamiya Lame Flake, it's a clear with multicolor flake in it, amd jist looks awesome backed with pearl white, metallic or fluorescent colors... I have also used it to lightly coat the windows after peeiling window masks. It makes the clear a touch hazy, but when the light hits the body the windows light up with beautiful sparkles... Do you ever paint bodies for other people, or just your own? Thanks for the video!

Hey! I had that transmitter when I was a kid. The one on the lower shelf. What's the make and model of it? I recognize it but don't remember the name. 0:17 I got it along with a Futaba FXT Stadium Truck for Christmas one year. I guess it would have been 30 years ago. I would have been 10. I gave up presents from each of them so that they could pool the money into one big present. I remember sitting there impatiently waiting for everyone else to finish opening their presents so that I could go start assembling the truck. Good times!

Here’s a couple of tips that always worked well for me: I always used to trim the body first, then as part of the masking process, would put a skirt of masking tape around the perimeter of the body. Depending on the body/application, you can clearly see where you need to trim - and let’s be honest, it would totally suck to have a killer paint job totally ruined by a mistake made trimming the body after the fact. The other thing is that I could neatly sand the edges for a smooth feel all the way around. I haven’t kept up with what’s available today for RC (Pactra was the Main brand back then), but I used to use acrylic-based Createx paints - they offered a wider variety of colors, and were very easy on the internal seals of the airbrush. As an on-road racer, I always kept a can of Pactra spray paint in white and black handy. I don’t know what it was about the formulation of those two colors, but they were the best at allowing for easy cleanup of the tire dust after runs. If you run Nitro, the RC paint formulation also seals and protects your acrylic paint underneath from being eaten by fuel residue.
