When I first heard the "why do you assume they are your enemies" bit, I thought it was just fake deep, but then I thought about from who's point of view that the question is given in. In SUPERHOT's perspective, it doesn't want you to be playing at all, and dying would prevent you from playing it. So, the red guys' objective of killing you isn't an action that would make them your enemies from the point of view of the game. (Sorry if this makes no sense I am very tired right now)
@boomertiro14224 жыл бұрын
Aye, and not even that deep but a bit more profound. The answers to most of the questions point out that a lot of the usual assumptions simply have no basis in what has been seen so far. The red guys could be your enemies, but you know nothing about them, not even why they instantly want to attack you. You're practically acting in self defense, but are they? Can they even be called enemies with no goal, just killing red dudes? Again it's not that deep, it's just "An assumption was made, did you notice how baseless it is?"
@masterzoroark66644 жыл бұрын
It's perspective, like everywhere else.
@DoomRater3 жыл бұрын
Another question asks why are enemies red. The answer asks what color YOU are, and more importantly, what shape. While you appear as black from a first person perspective, you are red in the last level. The only mantras the game wants you to say at some point are "Mind is software" and "Bodies are disposable". Conclusion: Superhot is a collective of human and artifical intelligence running on a computer network, and it sees bodies as weak. Usable as weapons but also holding humanity back. That might be a lot of spoiler for people who haven't played the game and found all the secrets, but come on, what's holding these people back? It's the most innovative shooter in years.
@reoffending2 жыл бұрын
I always just thought it was tied into the game's lore, that you're killing real people and the red guys are just saving you from the game.

I think part of what makes the game take you by surprise is that the single sentence used as a premise is a lie. Time does NOT only move when you do, everything creeps slowly forward and standing still too long will kill you. It can take several levels and confusing deaths to realize.

@elisabetrouge2 жыл бұрын
Like Bioshock in a way too. "A man chooses. A slave obeys." You have free will to choose but not in a linear game. You have to play it the way it is designed. So there's not really any choice at all.

That was really interesting. I've only played the VR version and it seems to be a pretty different game as far as the meta story goes. I didn't even know about all the command prompt part of the game. But man, in VR it is incredibly intimidating to be surrounded by several 7 foot glass men with weapons.

The story of Superhot VR is pretty much a reduced version of the base game story where it removes the chat log and pretty much just has you keep playing the game occasionally it will kick you out but you get back in almost instantaneously so there isn’t much to ponder over as a game Superhot VR is superior but story wise the base game is much much better
@doctoradventure4136 жыл бұрын
When I played the base game I had fun but I felt so restrained like I wasn’t able to go all out like the story told me I was but in vr I no longer had that restriction (except my arms wanting to not be with me anymore but that’s a problem with the PS VR)
@Quandry15 жыл бұрын
If I remember right. There are three different versions to the game depending on how you played it. But I don't remember what the third version was on. And two of the versions actually are stories that run directly counter to each other. One being you eventually falling under the control of the AI and eventually becoming an Agent of the AI by hacking you as the protagonist. The other being you destroying the AI if you get far enough along in it's storyline.

Judging off that moment in the group chat when someone joins and starts telling a story about how a guy killed 20 people barehanded without breaking a sweat. That a police unit couldn't even stop him. Judging off that story (before I completed the game) I thought super hot was a sort of government training simulation that builds the users reflexes to be that of a super human. But then I thought what if it's a way to control any person in the real world (judging off the hotswitch feature) so that your placed dead smack in the middle of a ongoing situation where you may kill or combat anyone you wanted to in that area with basically with no consequences or fear of death, and all the benefits of having the superhot ability to slow down time. I'm completely sure now that superhot was a virtual "game" the in game government built in order to basically be the mole in any given situation in the world so that they can deal with any group of people from the safety of a computer.

I played a bit of SuperHot in VR, and the intro places you in a photorealistic hackers den where you put a floppy disk into an old tower and put a Matrix-esque headset on to start the game. I wear glasses, but my glasses couldn't fit in the headset so I couldn't wear them. I'm blind as a bat, but I figured I would be able to see fine since the screen was inches from my eyes. Interestingly, I couldn't though; they had some kind of simulated depth of field, so that I both could, but mostly couldn't, see far away details; it's hard to describe. By the way, this was my first VR experience. The photorealistic hacker's den was doubly mind blowing because I *couldn't tell it wasn't real.* I couldn't see the details, the graphical edges so to speak that normally shatter the illusion of immersion. I was just plopped into another space; it was only until I walked through a desk that the illusion was shattered. The rest of the VR game has a lesser emphasis on the meta experience, and more on the visceral awesomeness of actually ducking dodging and rolling from cover to cover, but the beginning still blew my mind all the same.

I played this on console in one sitting, and I still looked to check if there was something behind me. I love the theme of gaming addiction, gaming interior narrative (your purpose of playing), and how gaming takes time from your life. That's why the system locked you in a cell, it was controlling you like every other game does. But Super Hot blatantly makes you aware of it. Which kind of makes you feel guilty, but it's intriguing to get the rest of the story.

The original NieR did a similar narrative trick on it's audience that wasn't really revealed until the second playthrough, when you can finally understand what the enemies are saying (on first playthrough it doesn't include subtitles). Only later on do you get a clue into what's actually going on, by the third playthrough you get the full understanding of what your enemies are and it flips the script completely on your expectations for who these characters you've now adventured for upwards of 40-50 hours are. It's interesting to me because I hate it when media yanks the proverbial sheet from the bad-man's head and says "HA YOU TOTALLY DIDN'T THINK IT WAS HIM DID YOU?!" without giving me the proper clues to guess it on my own, but I never felt that way with NieR (and it sounds like this is the case with Superhot also) probably because it's less about enjoyment coming from guessing whodunnit and more the enjoyment from slowly uncovering piece-by-piece the true nature of the world the media is portraying. I've really liked that about NieR (and media that's similarly structured) as it's based on the premise that there are so many different perspectives we have no line of sight into, our worldview- no matter how wide we think it is, is only as wide as our own personal perspective.
