I have a great guy that aerates my yard for half what anyone else charges, but his plugs are only one to one and a half inches. The machine I used to rent pulled plugs much larger. Does size matter here?? Also, I think aeration is the best thing you can do to any yard. I’ve been doing it for over 30 years with incredible results. People are always stopping by and asking how much I fertilize and water and I tell them hardly at all. I also do the recommended things like cutting high when it’s warm and dry, mowing in different directions, keeping the blades sharp, etc.

I used that Scotts turf builder this spring with my overseeding and it's doing a great job. Dandelions and clover come up and turn white pretty fast. Crab grass seems to get through though.

re: your crabgrass: Quinclorac. Make sure your turf grass type is in the "highly tolerant" list (ex: PRG is highly tolerant; st. augestine is NOT). Two applications two weeks apart per the instructions and manufacturer rates should be enough to quell your crabgrass. I use a surfactant to make sure it 'sticks'. Do not mow 2 days prior to application. Do not irrigate for 24 hours after application. And, do not apply in hot temperatures (right now, most of the country need not worry about that).

I'm watching this closely to make sure it doesn't get too tall. I may get out and mow it before I see germination but after that you just have to tread lightly on those first few mows and it turns out fine as long as you're careful.

Huge Poa Annua problem in my lawn. My plan for fall '24 is: Level, aerate, over seed and Tenacity in late August/early Sept. and then Prodiamine as pre-emergent for the Poa, late Sept/early Oct. Thoughts on this? I did a preemergent of Prodiamine this Spring for Crabgrass, but I would still be under the annual limit. My concerns are with the newly growing grass which will be 5 ish weeks established at this point, and with the combination of Tenacity followed by Prodiamine. Thanks!

@ryanknorrlawncare6 ай бұрын
Transition zone means you pick either cool season or warm season grass but neither works perfectly. There is no "transition zone" grass type so that's why no one talks about that because it's same grasses we have up north or south depending on what you choose. Most in NC have fescue and overseed in fall if summer damage occurs from heat.
