Go to piavpn.com/mcbeth to get 83% off Private Internet Access with 4 months free! Get my novel "The Win Machine" here: a.co/d/ekVdlci Also available as an audiobook here: a.co/d/ekVdlci In my novel “The Win Machine,” one plot point involves China’s attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records in blood donated during a single day. Since blood donation is not popular in China, it is seen as a prelude to war. It’s a good book and you should read it. But what other signs might we see before a full scale invasion? Stockpiling commodities: Food, fuel, medicines, machine tools and spare parts. Basically anything that can be embargoed. Note that China now has a playbook to see how the world will react with the war in Ukraine. It might use that playbook to predict how to survive and fight with sanctions. Rare Earth Metal Restrictions: Rare earth metals are critical components in things like LED displays, touch screens, magnets, and radars. China might stop exporting these minerals or encourage the US to divest from rare earth mining. Restrictions on VPN usage: VPNs or Virtual Private Networks act as tunnels to connect your computer to a “private” network. This might be your workplace, or it might be a VPN service that allows you to bypass local censorship or restrictions. Technically, VPN usage is banned in China without special permission. However, this ban isn’t aggressively enforced. If tourists and expatriates suddenly find the bans enforced, it could be an indicator. Divesture of markets: You might see China divest from American and Western markets along with the purchase of more gold. You might also see China shift toward the homegrown CIPS banking system over the international SWIFT banking system. Disinformation: China will use disinformation as a weapons effector with kinetic effects on target. For uncensored video, check out my substack at: ryanmcbeth.substack.com Like my shirts? Ryan, sorry but the suggestions that people calling for divestment from fossil fuels, or people pushing for strict environmental regulations in mining, are somehow gullible idiots or paid shills controlled by China is absolutely ludicrous. I would expects like this from the looniest end of the loony right fringe. Climate change has been identified as a major threat to the US by the pentagon itself. Divestment from fossil fuels and investment in renewable energy is a logical reaction to that threat. And people don't need the CCP to be concerned about mining polluting water and air in their area. It is true that we in the global North/West need to have a conversation about mining - protesting against mines while consuming the products of mining simply pushes the burden of mining on poorer countries where people who have less power to protest against it, and where environmental standards are lower. But to suggest that future protest against mining will be orchestrated or financed by China is bizarre.

Um, is it inconceivable that there could be an organic peace movement and/or opposition to the influence of the military-industrial complex? The way you present it is simply "if you notice antiwar activism, that's how you know China is getting ready to invade." There are American citizens who oppose war on all kinds of grounds, and to insinuate that their decision to protest is ultimately determined by a US adversary implies that there can be no legitimate antiwar mass movement. Similarly, I'd have to be an idiot not to think that e.g. defense contractors like it when there's war. In this particular conflict I happen to support Taiwan (and the US helping them, even) but not quite as much as I support freedom of speech in my own damn country, and not as much as I oppose untoward influence of the military-industrial complex. You aren't necessarily WRONG in that I agree it's likely China would support antiwar organizations, but actual citizens have to turn out for the protests. I should add that I am bothering to type this at all because I value your commentary.

If NATO aligned countries stop supporting Ukraine and allow Russia to win or end the war with a settlement massively favoring Russia then China will see that as a green light for their own invasion. If the world stays strong against Russian aggression that will certainly give China pause to reconsider their own military plans.

China is protected from behind by Russia's territory and its production is provided by its resources, China cannot under any circumstances allow Russia to be defeated. At the same time, China's population is 50% larger than the population of all NATO countries combined. The only threat to China is India, but India has a fairly small territory and is not seeking to fight China. We must also remember that Russia has a population of 145 million, of which about 30 million are a mobilization reserve. Taking this into account, as well as taking into account China's statements regarding Taiwan - a scenario in which NATO does not give in with the support of Ukraine and Russia loses, and then China rethinks everything - is not possible even hypothetically.

pretty interesting, keep an eye on Thailand's rice production. Very recently China has been helping Thailand grow their rice production and modernize their farming, more and more Thai farms are starting to get access to tractors, night-time automated tractors, and China has shared a lot of technical skills with Thai farmers recently, which should improve future yields. Regretfully, China could easily invade Thailand to gain a modernized rice industry, if trading doesn't work.

Hi Ryan, China already stopped selling the main rare earth metals (gallium, germanium, and antimony) to the U.S. and it's allies. These metals are used in most major weapon system from soldier mounted thermals to the targeting acquisition system of land/air platforms. These metals are almost exclusively refined in China and Russia, with very limited capabilities and capacities in West. While antimony is the latest, China hasn't sold germanium to the U.S. in over a year. It makes no sense to stop selling the metals now unless China anticipates taking action soon. Why give the U.S. time to adapt and bring their own industries on-line?

One question I have for you is how do you think that the Chinese civilian population is going to respond to a war? Even if the US does not directly intervene, Taiwan isn't just going to roll over and take it from China. There's going to be a lot of dead Chinese soldiers laying on the beaches, and while manpower may not be an issue for the CCP, civilian support for a war could be seriously impacted. From what I understand, there are very few Chinese people in China that come from families with more than one child due to the one child policy that was in place for so long, and even though that's been lifted, most Chinese do not want to have more than one child now. This has resulted in a disproportionate ratio of men to women because Chinese families considered a male that can carry on the family name to be of greater importance than having a girl. Once thousands of families realize that their family's bloodline has ended on the sands of some beach in Taiwan, how are they going to react, and how is that going to affect the rest of the population that may be staring at the same scenario once their only son is deployed? Also, do you think that is something that can be used, at least in the short term, as a means of conducting our own information warfare against China to deter them from going to war?

My Grandpa and I were talking about his much-improved hearing aids, cell phones, and computers used rare earth metals about 25 years ago. He pointed out how many of the same materials were used in TV and Radio tubes from the 1920-30's 'til the '80's. He was an electronics hobbyist back in the '30's. He thought it would be smart to find all the landfills used from that era since they would have a lots of tubes- the 'duds' ftom the neighborhood tube tester to the old radio's, tv's, medical & military equipment, etc. There have been studies of 'recovering' other materials from old dumps, Communist China's chokehold may really motivate things along.

Rare Earth elements are not "rare" they are just messy to process. As a result, any country that is concerned about its environment will shy away from processing rare earth materials in their country. It doesn't mean they can't. If push comes to shove, America is certainly capable of providing its own "rare earth" materials. Yes, they will cost more but in war that means very little. On the other hand, China needs to import everything necessary to maintain itself in war. That will be cut off immediately. Now this doesn't mean China isn't crazy enough to start a war, but it does mean it has zero chance of winning one.

I think there were some proposed methods of mining Rare Earths more cleanly (as in, the process of extracting them doesn't pollute as much as traditional methods). Also, IIRC, apparently the waste products of Coal mining (or Coal ash) contain rare earths in them. So maybe it's worth looking in there as well

China is specialized in rare earth material precessing, not just “having resource”. China currently controls the upstream, midstream and downstream of the whole rare earth supply chain. People think rare earth resources is about excavating stones in the ground, they are wrong. Currently barely any country has the technology to purify rare earth materials expect China. Can this tech be developed in the US, sure can, but it will take decades. China does not lack gas or oil due to Russia being in the north, and do you know how hard it’s to cut off a country’s entire maritime traffic? It’s impossible to intercept all civilian ships coming out and in from China even if war broke out. Civilian ships are still coming out of Russia three years into the war. If US sink every single ships out of China, it’s gonna escalate to nuclear war.

It’s getting tiring hearing you say there’s no military industrial complex, or that anyone protesting war is falling for Chinese propaganda. I didn’t need china to tell me that the US military isn’t perfect I looked at our own damn history. We know there were never WMDs in Iraq, the Vietnam war is unanimously considered a mistake, hell we can go as far back as the USS Maine. Freedom of speech is about holding our government responsible.

The fact that you and millions of americans think there were no wmds in iraq is extremely disturbing historical revisionism. Literally everyone who was there or who studied the war can tell you that saddam hussein had chemical weapons. Nukes are not the only wmd. Holding the government accountable is important, but not nearly as important as us not losing the next war with china, or with taiwan being lost to china. If we really are on the brink of war, this is not the time for this anti-government BS propaganda that frankly, has been perpetuated for far too long.

Your contention that they could strategically support the use of wind turbines to make the US dependant is contrary to the fact that, once the turbine is installed, it will continue operating for 20+ years without needing a motor/generator replacement. So, if anything, they are an advantage for the US because they provide long-term service with far less maintenance and none of the refueling needed by fossil fuels. Given this reality, it seems a bit disingenuous to hold forth on the complicity of the Palestinian civilians in the crimes of Hamas. Hamas does not "represent" Palestinians in Gaza in any way that grants political legitimacy. The myth that they do is advanced by Iranian accelerationists (who want war) and Israeli imperialists (who want to do the full Ataturk on the Palestinian territories). You should question it.

To be fair the whole not divesting from fossil fuels is a Chinese influence thing not only greedy oil companies. The smart thing would be to focus on green energy and save the oil supplies for military use or export. Instead we fell for the BS and now china is a leader in a tech that WILL be relied upon as oil runs out and its price sky rockets.

The only skyrocketing price will be artificially government created. Oil (and gas) supplies are not going to fall off overnight, it's just not how the market works.price will rise as supply shrinks but that will reduce demand thus moderating the price change, and so on over a century. The increased price will naturally drive demand to alternatives, no subsidies needed.

And it’s not only because of the revolving door between the MIP and Government, or the extreme lobbying. It actually works stabilizing for society in that it creates jobs for hundreds of thousands regardless of the economy. And it’s a profitable export, one of the few things that the USA still manufactures. The MIP is also crucial for supplying the 800 plus US imperial bases all around the world. It’s state socialism supporting capitalistic empire. I am not paid by anyone to understand these basic facts. But if anyone feels like paying me, it sounds like a good idea!

Quick note: This is somewhat adapted from a reply to another comment, however I think it's pretty good and holds up on it's own with minimal changes. I'd say this is a point that I've begun to notice this (Ryan's bias towards US interests and global neoliberal capitalism) is coming up much more frequently. I don't totally disagree with the idea that a lot of these movements will get supercharged by our adversaries, but I think Ryan really suffers from a very pronounced case of being entirely uncritical of US actions. I think it's very important to note that often being a "centrist" or "debunking misinformation" aren't always going to be very factual or unbiased as ideas. Centrism is often very biased, in fact I'd argue that in many contexts and with a lot of information "centrism" is incredibly biased. In the US being a "centrist" more often than not means being in support of neoliberalism. By extension, "debunking misinformation" could be seen in a context of "correcting" arguments against a neoliberal status quo. However, there's actually a surprising amount of scientific and factual information that could be easily turned on it's head to effectively debunk a lot of neoliberal arguments. For example, not a single study has been able to effectively prove the idea of a capitalist meritocracy. On multiple occasions people have tried to prove that those who possess wealth and power are more intelligent on average via general intelligence. While I personally disagree with the idea of a general intelligence, there are some circumstances where it can somewhat prove useful. In just about every instance that people have tried to prove that the wealthy are smarter on average than the general public, it has failed miserably. In fact, it has failed so badly that they've inadvertently proven the opposite (that the biggest determining factor for one's own wealth is often the wealth of their family) to be true. So yeah, I don't really think that Ryan is this "enlightened centrist that effortlessly debunks misinformation" that it feels like he really lets on to be sometimes. I don't really think he's that bad overall, the fact that I still like most of his content and think he usually makes good points proves this, but he really shouldn't adopt the image of being unbiased or correct.

Hey Ryan always good videos man. Just wanted to point out a factoid on the off chance you come across the comments section re: blood drives in China since you mention this often. I'm sure you may already know this, but the cultural disinclination to donate blood in China originated from a mass outbreak of HIV/AIDs in plasma donation centers and grey markets in the 80s and 90s to where people were terrified of getting HIV if they donated blood. The social stigma sticks around to this day. One of the pre indications for blood drives your Taiwanese viewer might look for is PR campaigns in China with regard to blood donation being safe and more education overall on HIV/AIDs. The stigma is still pretty real there and this would be an obstacle to overcome before getting people in line to donate. Of course, there's plenty of unwilling donors in Xinjang province they can steal blood and organs from if the occasion called for it. Love the video and the channel. Thanks again.

Im confused... why do you say "China invades Taiwan"? According to the US and every single recognized country on Earth except for 11 (and even Chiang Kai Check himself) Taiwan IS NOT a country; because there is only one China, and China extends from the mainland to its islands (including the island of Taiwan). And now we get in the sticky situation of what of the 2 China we should recognize... the PRC or the RoC... every single country that accepts the "one China premise" recognizes the PRC and not the RoC, and this includes the US. And even after the RoC renounce to reclaim mainland China they havent get more recognition. So, in the same way Ukraine was fighting its rebel provinces after the coupdetat of 2014, the PRC has been fighting a rebel province (following the US and the other 180 countries logic). And since you can not invade your own country, saying that "China invades Taiwan" is not correct. Maybe we could clasify that statement as disinformation? After all, isnt the PRC doing the same the US unionist north did against the rebel confederate south? BTW; if you want Taiwan to be a country accept that 180 are wrong and that the one China policy is not true. And in order not to be hypocritical accept that any 4rmed group that claims its independence should be accepted (because thats what has happened in Taiwan). PS: No, I dont support the PRC nor the idea that a regional independence can be achieved and recognized unilaterally via 4rmed strugle.
