I always piss off when I drive through road cameras with 40 km speed limit. The road goes nowhere, nobody cross it, yet they put f… cameras. But when I put Anemone, I became suddenly peaceful and calm, and I enjoy driving slowly, even at 20. That’s the power of this song.

Kanami is one in a million. She's something else, and it's not about technique - I've never heard someone surprising me so often with unexpected guitar parts, harmonies, arrangements and of course compositions. There's so many great musicians but original ones are much rarer - and she's the very definition of originality.

The most amazing thing though, is how she might have faded into obscurity or simply never developed what she is capable of doing today, if not for the fact that Miku reached out to her. Kanami’s songwriting is amazing but it’s only possible because of what each of the other girls bring to the table and their absolute trust in each other as well as the emotional and technical support they give each other. I also think it’s easier and less stressful for her to be able to write whatever she wants without worrying about lyrics… because she knows that Miku will handle the rest after she’s done, and well her role is just to compose.

I think Kanami and Miku kind of share a part of their music brains. Miku says she listens to the music and then writes what it makes her feel. I'm sure there's more to it than that, has to be at least some collaboration, but their ability to match music and lyrics is really just ... something else. Saiki's ability to interpret and convey the emotion just hits you right in the feels. Miku was right, these 5 finding each other was a miracle.

Kudos to Miku for seeing the talent in Kanami and reaching out to her to help start the band. Miku describes it as a miracle. Kanami -- not into fashion and appearance, "clueless" -- was often overlooked at auditions, I believe. People didn't look past the surface. Miku did brilliantly talent scouting Kanami. And Kanami pulled in Akane, who pulled in Misa. Miku got three outstanding musicians and one outstanding composer when she found Kanami. No wonder Miku calls it a miracle. Her dream band, still playing many years alter. Pigeon did well. Lots of people start bands. Miku started a _marvelous_ band.

Great Reaction & Review! This band needs to be illuminated. I like to imagine Kanami walking in public totally anonymous, while some street reporter randomly interviews someone pointing at her and stating: "Would you believe if I told you there goes one of the greatest living guitarist in the world" I guarantee no one would believe it and that is a real shame. In fact, it should be criminal that Kanami and the rest of the Maidens are as obscure as they are. What really is criminal Band-Maid has less than half a million subscribers to their channel. Meanwhile, some kids have millions of subscribers watching them play video games. That is a real shame.

"Anemone" might be my favourite Band-Maid ballad. I always break down listening to this song. Music at its most beautiful (the acoustic guitar has never sounded more angelic than when in Kanami's hands). Then I'll listen to "Page." Or "Daydreaming" Or ... and then I realize I love all of their ballads, which is one of the many reasons I think Band-Maid are the best progressive hard rock band on the planet. Maybe of all time. Watching your son come in to tell you random things really got me. Both of mine have now left home (they are 25 and 22), heck one is married, and it struck me powerfully how much I miss those days. My boys randomly wandering in to ask things that didn't need to be asked simply to check on me, have a hug, and then wander back out again. One of the many truly awesome things about being a Dad. 😊😊🤘🤘

Great comments Ryan. I totally agree. Kanami is a guitar rock hero (for me Jimi Hendrix is a god and Kanami is a goddess). Daydreaming and Anemone are the most beautiful BM ballads I have ever heard. I am unable to choose between the two versions of Anemone. Emotionally they are both magnificent. If I really had to choose, it would be the acoustics because of Saiki's sublime and moving voice accompanied only by Mincho's delicate guitar playing (and voice). I have tears in my eyes just thinking about it. Beautiful

Ryan! They are getting better and better with love songs and ballads while keeping up with untold intricacy! This is a sure sign, if one hadn't known it yet ,that they are attaining musical adulthood. It is becoming more and more sweetly difficult to imagine what hey will come up with next! Interestingly enough, the pandemic might well have contributed a lot to their progress with more time to work and compose and practice in spite of their unreserved love for live audiences. I absolutely concur with you, Kanami is a phenomenon already surpassing the likes of late Stevie Ray Vaughan who came many a time to Japan, Carlos Santana and even more. Wait until Misa tempts her into some Jimi hendrix's riffs! A heroine, she certainly is, and she will need all our humble support to help up her along soaring even higher in the company o her crew! No need to say I love your comments! LOL Best regards, kampai and all that! Robert-Gilles

Some live performances of Play have an intro. The one people are familiar with is from Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017. When this song was on KZbin, it gathered finally more than a million views, before it was blocked. Line Cube Shibuya has the same intro, as well as all other live versions until recently. Sometimes they would skip it, though, and start with the main part of the song. The same intro they have used during the European tour in 2019, by the way. Just check the Hamburg recording: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKPHnIiCbpJgfqM They have changed the intro only on The Day of Maid OKYUJI. And it's pretty interesting, I should say.

Hey Ryan. Isn't it amazing how one rock band can take over a good portion of your life? My wife can't understand why I pretty much listen to Band Maid only, with a few other J rock bands in the mix. You have become my favorite reactor, not so much because of your technical analysis, but because of the way these five incredible, talented, beautiful, generous, sweet (is anybody in the world more sweet than Kanami?). and absolute genius at what they do. All of them. Especially Kabato. Sure, she's not a world class guitarist like Kanami, but not for her genius, this collection of masters may have never been gifted to us. There is not a band in the world that has the diversity in sound and genre like Band Maid. No one. Everything they do is top shelf when it comes to their videos and especially their mixing (Misa' bass tone). As you have said more than once, Misa has reinvented the bass. Akanae' strokes on the drums look effortless like those of a master painter. Your guitar hero has unmatched song writing abilities, such as her genius into making every Band Maid song one that you can enjoy no matter what language you understand. And Saiki. My dear, dear Saiki. There is no other voice like hers. She blends Japanese with English like it is the same language. If you listen to some of the instrumentals they do without Saiki' vocals, the song doesn't really sound the same. She brings so much, including of course, her stage presence. You mentioned you could not think of another band that has a library of great songs as them, but I can think of one other, and that would be the boys from Liverpool. Thanks again for what you do. By the way, you might check out these guys. I found them last night and they are pretty cool. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZOsaGybas6NgdU

I absolutely love the electric version of this song because of Kanami's lead & solos. Like you said, "SRV as hell!" I always got a Ritchie Sambora vibe from it too. I guess it makes sense since they both employed the Strat single coil neck tone in alot of their music. I wonder what Kanami recorded it on... 🤔 She said she used a PRS Silver Sky on a couple of solos on Unseen World, but I don't know if she had one at the time of World Domination.

I believe it was late 2016 when she got her first PRS, same year that Miku went for Zemaitis. World Domination was released early 2018, so Yes.
