I always loved Bob Ross and his work. You like him are very inspirational and always seem to enjoy what you do. You make it fun and I have fun trying your techniques and stuff. I love this piece and it will be my inspiration for my next work. I do have a question. Do you always use canvas or have you ever used Canvas board which for me is cheaper.

hey Ryan, another amazing piece my friend! just wondering what do you use to draw the outline on your canvas?
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I actually use Crayola pencil crayons. They allow me to play with color and more importantly don't dilute bright pigments like yellow/white the way pencil/charcoal does. It may not sound like the most professional medium but it's really effective.

Hi! Love your tutorials! When you mention large, medium and small square headed brushes, are there numbers that correlate with what you are using? For example, 0,2,4,6.....🙂 I hope that you are feeling much better! Kindest Regards~
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 7 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate the kind comment and really do wish that I could give you a better answer than what I'm about to. Throughout university I painted with a lot of friends, we shared brushes and thus all amassed a strange collection of unbranded brushes. I don't know where a lot of mine came from or there sets/numbers. I've considered buying new ones for these tutorials but over time you just get to know and really adore the ones you use... Which I'm fully aware sounds strange but it is the reality. This is my unnecessarily long way of saying no and I'm sorry. However, what I would recommend is picking up a package of Artists Loft brushes. They are fairly inexpensive and hold together well. I frequently use a number of them in these videos and I'm sure you will recognize them as they are being used. I hope that almost kind of helps!

Sorry your under the weather but good for you working through it! In the colors you put on the list you only put red, blue,yellow and white or black. Are you mixing to get the orange and pinks!
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 7 жыл бұрын
I am indeed. You can use yellow/red to render the orange and white/red to make pink. I would include my ratios but that will change with each brand of paint

Hey Ryan, I was wondering, why you used the square headed brush to paint the clouds in the foreground as opposed to the round headed brush you used for the clouds in the background? I love your channel!!

@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 7 жыл бұрын
That is such a good question, I wish I had addressed it in the video. I used the square headed brush in the foreground as opposed to the round headed brush for two reasons. The first being that sharper, or concrete lines naturally look closer. Therefore, by applying feather clouds in the background and slightly sharper clouds in the foreground you can render additional depth. I also used the square headed brush because I frequently get messages from people stating that they don’t have, or can’t find round headed brushes. With that in mind I just wanted to show everyone that you could still accomplish something nice without the round headed brush. Thank you for the kind wishes!

Last question! For the mountains in the back, I know they appear distant because of that wash you did previously with the orange, however it's not quite working out in my favor, what else would you recommend to give off the impression that the mountains are further away? Thanks again!
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 7 жыл бұрын
Generally if you want to push a subject into the distance you use less stark and saturated colors. This just means the inclusion of more grey. You could also mix the colors of the sky/atmosphere in it more heavily so that they almost blend together. This is great for things in the far distance. I hope that helps!

I like your paintings a lot. I made my own version of your 'misty mountain landscape painting' and I am currently working on this gem. One question: I don't really get the paint to cover the canvas like you do. Do you prime your canvas with gesso or do you use some kind of tonal ground? For the background of this twilight painting I had to use more than three layers...Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer!
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 5 жыл бұрын
Great question! I don't use any additional gesso or mediums. I actually attribute the fluidity of my paint to a little bit of water. I like to keep my brushes relatively damp, this helps the paint stay wet for a little bit of extra time and spread more efficiently :)

kay question.. how do you get the desaturated light and darkblue? add black? add white? add both?
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 6 жыл бұрын
Adding both white and black is correct-- together they make grey. Use more white when you want it to be light and more black whne you want it to be dark.

Would you say that the Liquitex basic paints are high quality?
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 6 жыл бұрын
I use Liquidtex Basic Acrylic Paints as I find they are quite thick. The thickness allows for the addition of more water which extends the wet life of the paint and make it easier to blend. In addition, lesser quality paints can often come with clumps in them which I have never found with Liquidtex. Hope this helps :)

How do you get that light bluish tint towards the beginning? Mine comes out as a baby blue
@RyanORourkeArtist
@RyanORourkeArtist 7 жыл бұрын
If you've already applied the baby blue you can add the saturation back in my applying a wash of pure blue on top of the previous layer. When you add white to something, like in the initial layer you de-saturate the pigment. To re-instill the vibrancy all you need to do is apply a light wash with an unedited pigment. I hope that helps!
