I have no doubt that new EV vehicle sales will be well over 50% by 2030, regardless of what the government does. Prices are coming down and electric cars are just better than gas. It's quickly getting to the point someone has to be irrationally anti electric cars to not choose one. Teslas are safer and more convenient with home charging and lower maintenance (like oil changes). The $7500 tax credit will be around for most if not all of 2025.
@timwelch2973 күн бұрын
Congress works slow, this is a feature, not a bug. I highly doubt the incentive is going anywhere. There won't be 60 votes in the senate. It may get some danger of going away if they put legislation in a new tax bill, which is expected this year since it needs an update this year. Certain laws like taxes and financial items only require 51 votes. This could happen, but I dont think so unless the democrats get some things they want in the new tax bill like not cutting taxes. I dont see that happening since Trump ran on cutting income tax, no tax on tips, etc.
@jonkrispeterson66785 күн бұрын
Telsa probably has the ability to sell cars for $7500 less and still be profitable. But many of the other EVs aren’t worth what they are being sold for so they need that tax credit. How many electric Fiats would they lease in Colorado if they weren’t almost free to the consumer for the lease period.
@Ryan-ff2db4 күн бұрын
Currently, Tesla makes around $8,600 per vehicle sold. So yeah, you are correct, although I'm not sure investors would be happy if Tesla's get cut their profit margins by 87 perent. Of course, they have other business ventures that are profitable as well.
@liam19024 күн бұрын
Sure they can be profitable without tax credit but that $7500 tax credit was free money to their profit margins. It gave the consumer the discount upfront and then the Gov quickly reimbursed Tesla for it. Sure their competition will collapse but Tesla's new prices w/o tax credit will be way too expensive ($47k-$60k+ incl taxes/fees for EVs that only have ranges of 270-360 miles of range?). I'm not super pro-Tesla or anti-Tesla but it just astonishes me that people aren't considering that a lot of Tesla buyers aren't buying an EV to save the environment but for affordability and trying to save money in addition to the tech side. The demand for Teslas are going to drop by a good amount - people rushed to buy in 2024 Q4 cause of deals and to guarantee tax credit & people are buying in 2025 Q1 cause of tax credit uncertainty. Demand is being boosted right now with tax credit uncertainty so once it officially goes away, then demand will just drop. I'm both a consumer and investor in Tesla, and I do hope Tesla ends up cutting prices once tax credit is gone. Though I don't think it's going to be a $7500 price cut or anywhere close to that since it'll affect their profit margins. So regardless, it's still going to be expensive to buy a Tesla. And yes IMO, $45k-$60k is "expensive" despite reports/people saying $40k-$45k is average new car price.
@Ryan-ff2db4 күн бұрын
@@liam1902 I agree, except I think most Tesla buyers get sucked in by the power and software more than the price. However, an additional $7,500 would still put them out of reach of many people. Batteries are still expected to drop considerably in price over the next few years, assuming world tarriffs don't go nuts under Trump but I think that's unlikely. Overall, they need a cheap stripped down "Toyota Corrolla" version to compete at the low end.
@jonkrispeterson66784 күн бұрын
@@liam1902 I didn’t realize that Tesla took the $7500 off the cost and waited for federal reimbursement, as it isn’t that way the solar tax credit. I paid Tesla full amount, and then deducted off my taxes. But either way, Tesla gets the same amount of money. This may not be the greatest for Tesla, but it is the correct thing for the US.
@liam19024 күн бұрын
@@Ryan-ff2db I think the $7500 tax credit + deals/incentives push people into definitely considering a Tesla (which would push them to do a Demo Drive) and then the software/EV experience is what gets them to stay and maybe even buy another Tesla. That's why Tesla's major price cuts + it then qualifying for tax credit in Jan 2023 caused an insane influx of people to buy the car. Before then, lots of people excluded considering a Tesla cause the Model Y & 3 used to be like $50k-$70k+ MSRP.

Federal NEVI funding caused a doubling possibly tripling of build out rate in MANY states including mine. It WILL have a BIG impact for any new placements. We’ll see those sites with dispensers in the ground finish, but new build-out by large companies and travel groups will probably slow to a crawl. The real BAD part? Even if some funding resumes, big companies will sit back and WAIT for the tide to shift bad again and where they know it will be cost-efficiently and there’s a growing market. The NEGATIVE rhetoric coming from the executive will stifle a restart.

15:10 From this picture and the OOS and Carwow videos, it looks like the rear visibility out of the back window is much improved in the refresh compared to the previous letterbox. Might sound silly but that'd be a selling point for me when comparing the two.

Elon should just purchase his own bank or financial services then underwrite his own loans for his cars and insurance at a very low rate then I'm sure he can finance his own ev adoption across America 😅
