Their phones were crazy innovative and I think the industry as a whole feels like it's stagnating/boring now because the Samsung/Apple duopoly doesn't have any viable competitors pushing them to do better. (edit: wait you just said that, I commented before watching sorry) Edit edit: on the debate about whether they spun Honor off: if they haven't, they're definitely operating them from a distance. Honor's hardware design has stagnated, and their software is terrible with significant parts of the UI unchanged from Android 10 on P30 Pro like the notification area and control centre. Honor used to be like ITV+1 in that it would get all the good hardware stuff roughly 1 release cycle after Huawei released it, and software basically at the same time. That's all stopped.

I bought it a year after its release at an attractive price and used it to its full for 4 years. After three years, I started looking at other phones, but for a year, I couldn't find anything that could replace it without compromises and my personal dealbreakers at an attractive price, even though my budget was higher than when I bought the P30 Pro. Google is only required because they have made you dependent on it, like a drug. And so they have all your data, and use it against you. I love content like this about something that really happened that changed everything. You are so right about the past 5 yrs of smartphones because I noticed it too. The speed or rate of improvement on the hardware side of our smartphones was aggressive from 2018-2020, after that it started to slow down. CPUs went from 1.8Ghz to 2.8Ghz, Cam Mp went from 12mp to 108mp, etc. I think phone companies knew that hardware will eventually have its limit, so they invested in their software, making phones supported for atleast 2 yrs. Watching your P30 Pro review, I felt the same thing with my OnePlus 7 Pro, just bought it this February and used it as my daily driver (I don't care that much about the obsolete Android 12, so carry on), the fact that I still get triple camera setup (telephoto, wide, and ultra wide)with decent result for daily, a 90hz display, a beautiful OLED display (previous device was a Pocophone F1 6/64), 8/256 is still more than enough for me, this 7 Pro didn't feel obsolete at all, and at the moment I can't think of any phone that's on par or even surpass this 7 Pro, best deal I've ever got, hoping the phone will survive for another year or two 🤙

Love it. I had the Mate 20 Pro just before this which was my favourite simply because of the 3d face recognition. The P30 didn't have the 3d facial recognition so I ended up getting a P40 Pro without Google and used it for 4 years. I now use a Honor Magic 6 Pro which is basically exactly like a Huawei but with Google. Huawei was simply unmatched.

I broke my P30 screen a couple of months ago and I loved it to bits: small, fast charging, comfortable to hold, light and still plenty fast after 5years. It had not the advanced 5x cameras of the Pro, but the rest was the same, the battery great and it had not the curved screen athe edges, which I much prefer. My S23FE is larger, and much heavier but little of the other things was much of an improvement.

I know some people aswell who use the P30 Pro and I personally use the P40 Pro (added GMS). It's such a solid device. I bought the Pixel 7 Pro but because of all the bugs and performance drops I always find myself back with my trusted P40 Pro.

Yes. Smartphone markets are too boring now. They have all high tech and ai stuff but still nothing special. I now use a55 but it doesn't give me any special feel but a decade old Nokia n95 still rocks.

I used Mate 20 pro (carbon green). Loved using it for 3 years with constant pressure on the phone (gaming, always using wechat in China, great camera with low light options in 2016/17, decent enough stable video with that budget), it still can run now but the charge capacity has degraded so I dont use it. Those phones Mate 20 pro, P30 pro etc of huawei were honestly really good :)

if not for the china trade issue huawei might still be competing with the big brands today. My bro and my friend has this and the cam are really good.

I feel that way about my Oneplus 8 Pro that came out a few months after the P30 Pro, it had the first display to do 1440p @ 120hz.

Still using mine, bought back in 2020 and let me assure you modern smartphones don’t match it when it comes to low light photography. Side edge panel for dragging apps for split screen, double knock for screenshots, almost flawless performance with some stutters here and there, can’t complaint much given it’s 5 year old. My friend has a s24 ultra and he still couldn’t believe my 2019 phone took more pleasing shots than his latest phone lol… huawei was ahead of it’s time, shame we didn’t witness their innovation peak. Nevertheless it would be tough to find a successor after using this for 5 years…

The P30 Pro was by far the best phone I've ever had. Ridiculously good, especially for the price. Sadly, I dropped it on the bathroom floor once and cracked the screen. It still works, but is not really usable anymore. If I hadn't cracked the screen, I'd be still using it today.
