What equipment would you recommend for a small home gym? Update: You can purchase a bar for the Powerblocks. I was unaware of this at the time of recording.

For heavy lifting, the Iromasters seems to be a good choice. However I have the powerblocks elite and I love them! I like how you change the weight just like a machine by inserting the pin and then lift. It is also expandable to 90lb which I will probably never use as I am a runner. Here is what I use in my compact, functional home gym apart from the powerblocks: (No links, as I do not know how, sorry) or someone reply with links :) $$ CROSSGRIPS - foldable pull up "bar" into a book. Can be used as pushup handles. Works great witha spilt anchor suspension system. $ LIFELINE USA JUNGLE GYM - suspension system: Works well with crossgrips. $$ AXIUS CORE - balance: Like a bosu ball with handles for push up, that can move 360 to mimic an ab roller. Works great with resistance bands. $$ SPYDER360 - Push Up handles on wheels with removable handles (to slot your feet in like a core slider) that moves in 360: The ultimate ab wheel replacement. $$ BODYBOSS - Resistance system: Comes with a platform and collapsible bar. $$ T2 ISO - Portable Total Fitness Trainer World's most versatile fitness equipment, combines: suspension, elastic and isokinetics. (If you could only pick one this is it) Cardio: Running for me duh :) Outside if it is allowed in your area. Honourable mentions (I don't have) $$$$ HANDY GYM World's smallest gym at 200lb worth of weights using inertial. alternative - MAXFIT Other? $$$$$ TONAL GYM Gym that installs on your wall, up to 200lb using electromagnetism. Has a touchscreen with AI.

Sounds like a good setup for you! I like the powerblocks. If I were going to get them, I'd want to go ahead and get the heaviest set and I certainly don't want to drop $2k on some DBs. Once we have a basement to spread the equipment out a bit, I'd like to have fixed DBs up to 50's and the ironmaster set that goes up to 165 per DB. That way, I could go heavy with the ironmasters, my wife could workout at the same time, and I could do drop sets or supersets if I wanted.

So the IM plates will fit most 1” bars? Omg game changer in my opinion that makes it so versatile. I had the Urethane Powerblocks and they just broke on me. The joint from the iron support bars to the plates are made of urethane plastic! Plastic! I can’t believe I was putting 80+lbs with kind of joint

Did the dumbells come with the stand and how heavy does your set go to?
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
@@marucat2797 The IM's will fit any 1" bar, but IM's bar does have the little plate that keeps the weights from getting rotated around. It's just up to you if you want to spend the extra $60 to get the IM bar vs a CAP bar from Amazon. As long as you're careful setting the weights down and don't drop the bar on the ground, it'd be fine I'd think. The standard 75 lb per DB kit comes with the stand included ($649). I have that and the add on that makes the DBs go up to 120 lbs each ($299). I also plan to get the other add on that takes the DBs from 120 each to 165 each ($309).

Powerblocks are the same price. You were looking at the commercial range. You want the exp range for home use. Pretty much same build and has 3 stages of expansion.
@RyanTreadaway3 жыл бұрын
I know I was looking at the commercial range. The pro series only goes to 90 lbs with the heaviest expansion. So it's a similar price for 90 lbs max vs 120 lbs with the ability to keep expanding if you need to.

Hi, great advice. Due to the lockdown, I, myself ended up training at home. Weirdly enough my setup was very similar to yours... A weight bench (flat/inc/military), 2 sets of spin lock dumbells - one for light and one set for heavy upto 90 lbs, pull up/dip station, and bands and foam roller. To use spin lock dumbells comfortably on bench presses use American football padded pants. The thigh pads allow you to comfortably rest heavy spin lock dumbells on your thighs and knee lift them up ready for the press.

Nice! I would hate working out in football pants though. Lol could just use some type of band or something to hold the pad to your legs.

Hello Ryan, I think you are spot on. Ironmaster dumbbells are better than cast dumbbells and close to as good a pro-style in my opinion. A way to be able to do some drop sets with the Ironmaster dumbbells is to purchase their dumbbell hand set with no weights for a little over $200 including shipping. They will also sell the 2 1/2 and 5 pound plates by the pound over the phone. Or for $400 you can buy the 45 pounds dumbbells. The second set of handles fits on the bottom compartment of the stand. All in all for the price of the power-blocks you can get 2 sets of dumbbells that have a better feel and long term stability (no plastic or thin metal). My setup: The 75 pound set with stand (on sale for $600 at the time), the 120 pound kit ($300), the handle set ($215), four 2 1/2 and four 5 pound plates ($100ish can't remember exact amount) helps with the drops set and over all flex ability of the work out ($1,215). Not only is this favorable to Power-blocks, but I sold my dumbbells (5 lbs. to 110 lbs. plus storage racks) and made a profit after buying the iron master sets. I do not have any affiliation with Ironmaster. I just love their product and saw your video.
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
Hey Comer! That sounds like an amazing setup! I plan to get the 165 lb add on in the near future. I won't often go over 120 with DBs, but it will be a heck of a lot more convenient being able to slap the two big weights on each side to do 100 lbs per DB vs having to take the time to stack so many fives. It will also allow me to have the DB handles and curl bar loaded at the same time for accessory exercises. Once my wife and I build a house, we plan to have a more spacious and elaborate setup. I'd like to have the 165 lb ironmaster set plus fixed DBs up to 50 lbs. Then we could do our sets at the same time. Plus it'd allow for extremely easy/fast drop sets.

I have had both the PowerBlock 125s and the Ironmaster 120s, and I liked both for different reasons. While not as slow as traditional spinlocks, Ironmasters are still painfully slow to adjust.
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
I do agree they are slow. Out of curiosity, what did you like better about the ironmasters?
@TwoWheelNinja4 жыл бұрын
@@RyanTreadaway POWERBLOCK PROS They can be used like traditional dumbbells. (Some exercises like RDL and farmer carrys are hindered by the PB design) Solid construction (PBs jiggle and rattle with every rep) Durability (although I never dropped either, I would not want to drop a PB) The only negative is having to deal with the all plates, especially with the extension. The Ironmaster stand is not that well thought out in my opinion. When you push it up against a wall or a corner it slows you down even more compared to just making adjustments on the ground.
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
@@TwoWheelNinja I definitely agree. When we build a house and have more room, I'm definitely going to set the stand further away from the wall. As it is now, it's about 3 inches from the wall and I have to turn the DBs around when going up to the 120 lb pin.

I reccommend the Power Blocks. I like them better for switching out the weights more easily and faster. I was considering getting the barbell setup, but It looks a bit blocky since Power Block does not have round weight PLATES. I've never done barbell training with blocky weights on the ends and I'm afraid that the blocky weights will roll around, making the barbell not as stable, once the body is moving (if that makes any sense).
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
That makes perfect sense and I completely agree. I wouldn't get a barbell for the powerblocks even if I did go with them. I ultimately went with the ironmasters because of the price and the fact that they feel like traditional dumbbells.

I did. It certainly is the most versatile bench on the market but the seat is locked to 90 degrees and it doesn't look quite as solid as the AB 5000 line. The 5100 is a monster. Plus, I bought this with a forward looking mindset. When we build a house, we're going to have a basement gym so I don't need 100% of my versatility to come from the bench itself.

What’s up Ryan. I already watched this video couple weeks ago and since you have a small home gym in your room I have some question. I’m in the process to build a rack rig inside my room for the reason that I don’t have a garage. Is it toxic or bad to have gym equipment such as a rack, bench, mental materials, plates, rubber dumbbells etc inside a room where you will be sleeping?
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! When you ask if it's toxic, do you mean in the literal sense? If so, then no. There's not going to be any gases or anything coming off the paints since they're dry. If you get rubber mats (which I highly recommend), they will have a rubber stink for a long time though. You can mop them to help it go away quicker though.
@GAHO.4 жыл бұрын
Ryan Treadaway I appreciate it getting back to me! Yeah because I just got like 6 pairs of hexagon rubber dumbbells from the brand CAP and they actually have a really strong smell which I think it can be harmful and toxic for me. I don’t have another place to put them other than my room where I will be spending most of my time there and I saw the tags that comes with the dumbbells and it says it can cause cancer which I’m really worry about it too. Any suggestions.
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
Hex dumbbells typically have the smell go away pretty quickly from my experience. You could maybe look up if there's a proper way to wash them in order for it to go away more quickly. In reality, even if the rubber being in contact with your skin is harmful, most exercises don't require you to touch the rubber part anyway. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it but that's just me.

I wanna turn my room into a small gym with a tv and treadmill or elliptical but too small :(
@RyanTreadaway4 жыл бұрын
You could do a stationary bike for cardio. That'd take up less space. You could also do one of the rowers that fold up.
@AVealSandwich3 жыл бұрын
My friend found a condo sized treadmill that folds up, maybe that could work too? Good luck!

@@AVealSandwich good option! There are also fold up rowers.

I'm sorry you feel that way my friend. It's an overview of the equipment that I personally purchased and use. Of course, I have mostly good things to say about it. I didn't say anything about gym design in the title. I said "best gym equipment for small spaces" and that's exactly what I talked about.

@@alext1452 no worries man. Just as a bit of prospective, between planning, recording, editing, and uploading, I spend about 15 hours per week on these videos. I know others spend even more than that. Watch the ads. Support your favorite creators. 😁

@@RyanTreadaway I feel like too many new KZbinrs came in the last decade.. So KZbin have more channels to pay.. Ads is the way to make money and pay also all those new channels I believe. Or KZbin just want more and more money

@@alext1452 not exactly true. Channels aren't even eligible for ads until they have 1000 subs and 4000 hours of watch time in one year.
