I was only about 5 minutes into your video, when I got SOOOO friggin excited that I had to pause it and write this comment! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for speaking "slowly" and clearly. Seems everyone else is in such a hurry on KZbin videos that the points they try to make are fails. (You were guilty too), but it seemed to me that you really made an effort to improve on that in this video. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Nobody compares to you at all; your meticulous attention to detail did not go unnoticed by me- and alot of others I can assure you bro. Keep it up, and STAY the best!

I purchased the FreeWire and the Sena 20/S from Harley and I can say that I was able to use all the functions that are available in the Boom Audio system including talking to GPS for directions, answering the phone, getting music from my iPhone, etc. From what I understand it will only work with the 20/S with Bluetooth 4.0 which is what Harley Davidson sells. I used this for a 6,600 mile trip out west earlier this month and the system was flawless and every function was available to me through the wireless FreeWire module!

Ryan you rock. This is not the first time we have looked to LAB to sort things out for us. Information is complete and clear. Unfortunalty it doused interest in the product. We are looking for totally clean solution, as in "invisible". We have street glides w/o wired helmet connection to the Boom Box. Looking for wireless connection and were aware of the issue with mono only sound to anything other than an H-D tagged SENA unit. Still we were willing to look at the handlebar mounted SENA Free Wire unit, until you made it clear that we would also have to go farther back and install a hardwired DIN port for connection into the SENA head. additional to being unsightly, the hassle of having to unplug and store the SENA head and connection cable for security when parking is just a deal breaker.

Appreciate the video. This is a good workaround and not have to replace your existing Sena headset with the HD and the WHIM. My method for avoiding the Freewire and the WHIM is: When wearing a full face helmet on long highway trips or cold weather, I bypass the GTS and connect my headset with my bar mounted iPhone via bluetooth with power from a spliced wired under the fairing and up my bars. Making phone calls works well. When using my sena, there's really no need to be connected to GTS. This method also allows me to use third party nav on my iPhone simultaneous with the GTS Nav without losing my planned GTS route when switching between Carplay and HD nav. If I go half-helmet (no headset) at non highway speeds in warm weather , then I connect my iPhone via Bluetooth to the GTS and listen through the fairing speakers. Sometimes I want to use Apple Carplay and have to plug my iPhone into the factory USB regardless of my helmet which renders the Sena headset useless which is ok because I'm wearing a half helmet with no Sena. Eventually I may give in to the WHIM and HD headset, but I'm holding off as long as I can.

Hey man, thank you very much. I bought the Sena 20s and the Sena Freewire so my wife and I can ride together on my 2015 Ultra Classic. I wanted something where I could Bluetooth to my bike and she and I can talk and listen to music together. It literally took me longer to watch your video than it did to install and pair everything and I suck at tech stuff. Nice job. I’ll find you on Facebook.

I've been watching the evolution of the Freewire. A couple months ago I upgraded from SMH10 units to the 20s units. My use case includes a rider with me most of the time and both want control of our own phones. The last piece has always been shared listening to music but still having the ability to intercom on top of the music. The SMH10 could share music but the intercom cut it off. Riding with the music on the speakers and the SMH10 units between us fit our use case except at highway speeds my wife didn't like the radio so loud. I tested almost all of the "hacks" and nothing solved this issue easily. The closest was building an intercom piece that basically tricked the Senas into thinking it was a 3 way intercom call. But then the audio quality was not the best. For now we bought the 20s mounts with a 7pin din connector. We're wired for Boom audio but have our other functions still. The Freewire might allow us to not need the cable.

Quick question - did they resolve the phone issue over the past couple of years (I noticed the video was made in 2016)? Secondly, I assume if my wife only connects directly with my rider headset via bluetooth then we can still talk, she's heard nothing from the BoomBox and has full use of her own music and phone??

This gadget is really nice. I first saw this on a cycle gear catalog. I figured it was still not 100% compatible at the moment, so I will just continue to use my "wired" communications system. If I managed to win it, I would experiment with it as well. I am used to wires as we use similar types of communication on our military vehicle communications systems. Maybe in the future, they will have tapped into Harley's system or Harley will just give us what we want and at least provide the technology in their own re-branded Harley-Davidson helmets.

I have owned a 16/17 Goldwing. I have owned a 16/17 Ultra. I now have a 19 Street Glide. I have used Sena20s with and without the Freewire. All of what is stated in the video is correct. However, the best way to integrate, in my opinion, from both a cost and feature set perspective so that you can answer and make phone calls, listen to music, listen to turn by turn and be notified of texts on the street glide is to use a usb adapter in the 12v outlet on the right side of the faring. Plug in a short usb cable between the 12v usb adapter and the phone. Install the free Sena app on your phone. Pair the phone with 20s SENA. DO NOT PAIR PHONE WITH BOOM. Now you have all the same functionality with the exception of being able to listen to the content of texts. Dump you music on a phone sim card, you will be able to answer incoming and make outgoing calls with the Sena App, use the WAZE app for your GPS and your good to go. Economical; actually almost zero cost - just the usb adapter and cable, feature rich and wireless.

This is an old one I know. But I know you guys have experience with both the Freewire and Harley WHIM. Whim will work with Harley branded Sena and give stereo sound. Non Harley branded Sena mono sound. Sena Freewire and "any" Sena headset gives stereo. Plus Sena not waterproof. Will Cardo headsets work with the Frewire? And give stereo? 2022 Road Glide Special. Awesome production quality and attention to detail on this video Ryan. I have a 2017 SGS and was able to install the 7 Pin DIN with the help of your other video. I have the Freewire and Sena20S. I am not sure what the difference is, but I was definitely able to voice command the boombox via the talk button. For example, while the radio was going "Tune To" was something that worked to change the station. Anyway, my 2cents.

Excellent video as always. I do think I can solve your issue with phone calls and voice commands. I have one of the first units released for production as I was all over SENA so have had sometime to play. Understand I use a Smartphone, not a iPhone, however this should still work.It is actually pretty simple. I don't have either of the issues you mention, however the light bulb went of when you mentioned things "fighting" each other. You have to let your phone sync to the bikes radio BEFORE turning on or syncing the Freewire to the 20S. If not, the 20S thinks it has control while the radio, which also synced to the phone, thinks it has control. This is why it comes up on the screen but you do not hear anything.

Ryan, you don't want to pair your Sena to your phone, if you are using the freeware. If you only pair your phone to the boom, everything works perfectly. You can make and accept calls, just as if you are plugged in. It works great! Try unpairing your phone to your Sena. Pair phone to the boom, the freeware to the Sena 20s and you are good to go!

Hey, love your videos and hope you talk a bit about the tri glide. Shocks, proper pressure and of course accessories, love my 2016 tri glide but believe I can make it an even better ride. Sucker bounties me around “a lot” and my throttle wire also bounces (twist of the wrist) with the rough ride. Hard to stay smooth. Any help! Great show.

For some of us who don’t want a headset wireless or other .since the iPhone calls come threw the radio speakers . Have you seen or tried the Freedom microphone that is sold on eBay or some Harley dealers .that plug into the seven pin plug ,and acts as the external microphone.

Thanks for the video Ryan. I am wondering if you connected your phone and media directly to the Infotainment center and not the Sena would you be able to hear the incoming calls? I may get one to do some tests as well. If it doesn't work well I will just return it. Thanks again.

Hey Ryan great video, I was wondering if you have done any update videos on the Sena Freewire since this video was released back in December of 2016. Shows on Sena's website that there is a software update V.1.0.1. Did that software level fix any of the issues that you saw present in your video? Thanks for the great video's.

Assuming I pick up the sena freewire and the sena 20s for my 2015 RGS, the rider experience makes perfect sense to me. Here is a key question. Do I need a second freewire to have rider to passenger communication? I thought rider to passenger communication was the inherent benefit of the sena 20s Bluetooth headsets without the freewire device. Thank you for very informative videos!!
@RyanUrlacher4 жыл бұрын
If you want to have coms through the Boom Box internal intercom system, then the rider and passenger will each need a Freewire.

After watching your video on the Sena Freewire and Sena Wireless headset setup, I purchased two of each unit for my 2018 Triglide. One set for myself and one set for the wife. The setup works great. I can listen to music thru the Sena 20S headset and talk with my passenger. I noticed when speaking into the mic the music volume reduces. This is a good thing. However when I start to pick up speed the music level starts to reduce and gets spotty at best. When I come to a stop light the music audio is great again. It seems to me that the mic on the Sena 20S is too sensitive to wind noice and therefore reduces the music volume level. I love the setup and it is great running unwired but I can't put up with the quality of the music audio once I start driving. Have you seen or heard of this issue?
@RyanUrlacher5 жыл бұрын
You can adjust that. It's too sensitive. Set our VOX settings. The wind is setting of your VOX, which reduces your music.

I liked my SENA SMH10 so much, I upgraded to the 10S. When I first heard about the Freewire, I was really excited about pairing to the BOOM system. However, the more I think about it, the less excited I get. I've been pairing my smartphone to the 10S, and I'm struggling to come up with a reason to pay the $400++ total to buy the Freewire, and then to wire up my Road Glide Special for the 7 pin harness. What am I going to get that I can't do with my smartphone? Other than going from current, accurate Google maps on my smartphone, to 3 year old maps on the BOOM.

As always Ryan a great video, but heres the kicker! HD needs to do one of two things imo. Either fix the boombox to pair with headsets or make a deal with Sena to make a 20s in Black and orange kinda like the freewire? With the HD brand on it. To hell with this wired system! Hell its 2017 everything is wireless. Thanks brother.

Is there a USB cable to charge the unit with the dc in port? Use the supplied USB for charging. If so, you can install the Harley 7 pin cable in the fairing and enter the fairing compartment from the back. That way it will be out of site and all wires hidden while charging at the same time

trying to understand something.. If I didn't use freewire and didn't pair the phone the BoomBox, and just paired the phone to the Sena.. wouldn't I be able to just play music to either BoomBox via USB, and take calls on the Sena and optionally listen to music, and use comms. Thanks for the great video Ryan. I just bought a 2017 HD Streetglide Special last month and have since found your site, and purchased a couple video's (boom 2 install and detachable trunk) and appreciate the time and detail you guys put into these. I read about these freewire units here a couple weeks ago, and have been trying to research them because I was highly disgusted that 24k and couldn't connect a bluetooth headset to the infotainment sys. Do you know if the music quality to your sena headset speakers is in stereo via the freewire or is it mono. Guess that's one of the main reasons I might get it is to hear some music in my helmet at highway speeds. Thanks again for all you guys do!!! Russ
@RyanUrlacher8 жыл бұрын
Good question on that, not sure at the moment
@russhillman49738 жыл бұрын
Thanks for reply, I was just dissecting the user manual and the following comment leads me to believe that the music quality delivered to the Sena 20s headset is indeed stereo quality not mono. Does the music sound respectable in your full face helmet speakers or is it tin canny mono sounding? The FreeWire features:• Support for onboard built-in CB radio communication• Wirelessly stream stereo audio to Sena Bluetooth headset• Support for internal communication between a rider and a passenger each using a FreeWire Russ

Ryan, I have the Freewire and I'm considering going to the WHIM, although I really don't want to do that and have to buy those HD headsets. My frustration with the Freewire is, every time I start the bike, I have to remember to go into the bluetooth setting on my iPhone and disconnect the phone from the 20s.
