9:10 that’s also something I heavily criticize about US bases for example in Germany. There are actually people who spend their whole childhood and youth in Germany but never experienced the country they lived in. Some of them say they felt like a tourist whenever they left their base. It alienates the military personnel even more from the country they’re in and leads to rejection of Americans being in the country overall in the public opinion. I also heavily dislike the fact that German jurisdiction ended at the gates of the bases and that military police was always on the roads around the bases to deal with American base members doing illegal things. It boggles my mind that a country has to allow special treatment of those people rather than having local police deal with everyone regardless of their status or nationality. It’s the special treatment that again creates a rejective public opinion.

@Ryan Wuzer (posting it here so sure you see it. Also posted it to you as a independent comment) I get your point about the healthcare BUT please remember the math have been made decade after decade by so many different clever people. USA COULD get taxpayer financed healthcare "overnight" Scandinavian style for ALL legal residents, AND save a fortune on top. The two US parties are getting huge donations from the private actors in the healthcare system and thus they CHOSE not to change the system. 30 million have no coverage at all and US are ONLY Western nation where ACTUAL living age are going down. The largest cause of 3 year and older small businesses going out of business in YSA are related to the owners or the owners family´s health or monetary ruin related to it. Australia, USA, Canada, UK (in that order) are the large nations with highest CO 2 emissions per Capita and they ALL have lying and dis/mis-informing Murdoch media having significant market shares AND they all subsidise private companies fossil fuel sale in different ways. USA last fiscal year subsidised fossil fuels with minimum 790 billion taxpayer Dollars. Thus they actively create an unfree market preventing even a market driven transition of the cheaper emission free solutions like mega windmills for bulk production and solar panels for localised. Problem are that BOTH US parties are bought via the corruptible elements in the US lobby laws allowing what judicially would be straight forward corruption in ANY EU nation, thus a sane enlightened American have nowhere to get a democratic influence. BOTH US parties also support a UN charter breaking, international law and human rights violating Israel that now also have a war criminal as PM in Nethanyahu. 2 weeks ago an Israeli representative on UN`s chair shredded the UN charter. The UN that gave the jews the nation they called for for 2000 years! Almost ever since they got their nation and UN recognised borders they have been stealing land and killed their neighbours. Look at a map (wikipedia) and see the Israeli borders from 1947! THAT and ONLY that land are Israel as recognised by UN but US media all keep showing Israel as the are they have stolen at any given time last 70 years. Just a week ago a WH representative, denounced the ICJ and the ICC (International criminal court) after they designated Nethanyahu as a "war criminal" openly saying we do not recognise the court and I quote: "because America would be next", meaning next to be convicted as committing war crimes as accomplices with their aid to Israel. I will call that a direct admission of guilt! Contemplate that! US taxpayers keep funding UN charter breaking Israel. It are Israelis that constantly for over 70 years have stolen land with US weapons in hand and expanded the area they control more than 300%, NOT the Palestinians. It are Israel that use religiously based arguments to perform a Hitleresk landsteal and genocide and yet all US media call the people exposed to this for over 70 years the "terrorists". Now over 140 of the globes nations have recognised Palestine, many of them US allies and yet USA keep supporting the fanatic religious fundamentalists in Israel. My grandfather risked his life to save Jews from the Nazi´s. He would turn in his grave seeing the descendants of those he saved, doing same as Hitler did to them. The US soldiers that liberated the Nazi extermination camps took the time to document the horrors they met, so humanity never would forget. Tragic irony it now are jews in Israel and USA repeating it. American people DESERVE a TRUE "one man, one vote" mulitparty democracy with elected sitting in a one chambered parliament. NO electoral college, NO corruptible lobby laws NO changes of voter districts without 75% of votes locally. ONLY by reforming US democracy so that it again live up to the constitution´s promise of "FOR the people BY the people" can you get you fast growing issues solved. Our atmospheric carbon content SHOULD be 220 PPM and now have passed insane 420 PPM. The world do NOT have 2-3 US election cycles´s waiting time wating for you to "figure something out"! Transition have to happen NOW! WE are OUT OF TIME!

An Italian youtuber was arrested and all of his belongings were confiscated after he ate at a subway restaurant in a US military base. The video was about visiting all of the fast food restaurants in his region of Friuli. He tried to contact a subway he found on google maps, which is strange because in Italy we don't have subway, and he found out that it was inside the military base because they answered him in english. He then asked on his instagram if any of his subscribers could make him access the base, since he is pretty famous he actually had a fan whose father was an american soldier and whose family lived at the base. The fan and his father picked the youtuber up and accessed the base without any problem since they had clearence and I don't think it's forbidden to bring visitors as long as they don't film. The whole video was very chill and they only visited the residential part of the base which was basically a small sized american town with an highschool, detached suburban homes, a mall with a food court and grocery stores etc. The morning after he uploaded the video the police showed up at his door and he was brought to the station, his video was taken down and all of his equipment was confiscated, so I was one of the few lucky ones to see it. It's pretty enraging that an Italian citizien was arrested because a foreign government told the italian police to do so. Also, there have been many istances when the US military killed people in Italy by accident and they faced no consequence because of the deals between Italy amd the US. So, from a certain POV, US military bases provide a good deterrent againt invaders, but the whole concession is not balanced at all, they should at least allow the italian military to be stationed there too and italian law should be applied to the base territory since theorically we are allies and not an occupied country.

US military drivers in the UK aren't exactly known for obeying road rules either, - one well known example being the seppo who killed a young lad by driving on the wrong side of the road and then cutting and running, just before this another car from the same base - literally drove into the side of a police car (luckily nobody was seriously injured - because they went around a corner on the wrong side of the road. In neither case were the military brought to justice. Others report that there is actually a public road that runs through the middle of a US base - and pre-dates the base by several hundred years - and the US military tried to have the road closed off which would have left locals having to add another 45min to their travel time to the next town. The US military were told where they could go but as far as I've seen on social media this was a rare example of the locals standing up for local citizens against the US military.

7:44 there’s a Wikipedia article on foreign military bases called “List of countries with overseas military bases” and you’d be surprised to find out that China only has 3 minor facilities around the globe. Because why would they have military presence in other countries?! Who would let them in for what reasons? Same for the other countries, if you look at the list of course there are countries like France or the UK running some form of military presence in former colonies or as part of support missions for national troops but they don’t simply plot their own military bases anywhere and behave as if their presence there was completely natural and always supposed to be there in the first place.

France kicked out all American military bases on its soil in the 1960's (also UK and Canadian bases). That's why NATO headquarters was transferred from Paris to Brussels. I stayed in his house a number of times, and it was completely alien, set up the American way with French furniture and decorations trying to make it look a little more normal and failing.

However that meant that the bombs were cracked and a lot of the debris from the crash became radioactive. Did the USAF warn the civilian workers (mostly Danes and Greenlanders) of the situation or even give them basic protective gear before having them start the cleanup? Of course not. The US military being present in many parts of the world is exactly the reason why many people don’t like the US. It’s not even on an ideology level, it’s not like all people not liking the US hate the US or their ideology, it’s much rather a practical disliking of the American military strategy and presence. The US governments have interfered with a lot of countries internal politics, they financed and empowered the Taliban and Al-Qaida once, when they stopped that support the now declared terrorists turned their aggression towards the US. They invaded their former ally Iraq, they supported the overthrowing of several governments that simply weren’t in their favor I‘d say if the US kept out of all those unnecessary missions the world would be in a better state than it is now. World War II isn’t a question here, of course the US military was needed to support the (until then) losing allied forces. But the other conflicts they sometimes created themselves like in countries in the Middle East or in South America? Questionable. And if the US governments had invested just a few percent of the military spending into compulsory public healthcare there would be much less issues with healthcare in the US.

Australia has two known bases - one is in far north Western Australia which is a US Naval communication base at Exmouth and the other is at Pine Gap just out from Alice Springs in central Australia which is highly guarded and secretive intelligence gathering and signals surveillance site (although supposedly a joint base with the Australian government but there's no guarantee that Australia's government gets fully informed of exactly what the US learns from this gathering and surveillance base). The Exmouth base is a very interesting hexagonal shape with HUGE towers visible on Google overhead maps. Pine Gap has a very interesting array of domes across the base, along with many buildings and even an outdoor swimming pool for personnel. Is there no media coverage in the US of the Chinese government's policy of claiming the South China Sea as their territory, deliberately creating islands on which they build military bases and the ongoing confrontations with the Philippines and other SE Asian countries who are getting driven out of their traditional fishing grounds, etc.? There's constant friction there, with China ignoring UN demands to cease taking over territorial waters of other countries. The Australian navy traverses these waters are part of international countries ( and that includes the US also) trying to assert their right to freely traverse what should be international water and there are many examples of the Chinese navy interacting with the Australian navy (with injuries to Australian service personnel) . Strange fact, one of the biggest cementarys is right next to it and from time to time when they land at the hospital they have to fly over it and the wind blows away flowers and candles and stuff. First they thought it has been kids raiding the cementary until they found out the true reason. But they also provide some festival over the year when you can enter the base as total normal people. And I found it fascinating to enter this real US world. You know, the burger king with refilling the cups and take all sauces you want. And the huge parking spaces. France did too, I am not sure how many there are now with all that's happened in recent years in Africa, as this is where the majority of them were, the others are part of French territories so might not count in his argument.

I am Italian and I live about 80 kilometers (about 1mile 1.5Km) from an American base, from what we know this base contains devices of nuclear origin like others in our territory and I assure you that if it were not for the fear of waking up in the morning with a "mushroom" in the window we would not accept having you in our house. I have nothing against you but just as you rightly wouldn't like my country to have bases with weapons of mass destruction near your home, we too are not particularly happy.

If I understand it correctly, in the United States, a municipality is not required to create a police department, it can sort-off outsource it to the county and the sheriff’s office. Something somewhat similar happens when a smaller country outsources part of its security to another country. Very small countries don’t have an airforce, take Luxembourg as an example. Landlocked countries don’t a navy but still have an interest in other countries protecting shipping lanes against pirates. Only about ten countries have aircraft carriers, only three Western countries have nuclear weapons, the rest rely on the nuclear deterrence provided by the U.S..

And next you should learn why Austria, who is supposed to be a neutral country, is the international espionage hotspot of the world. And also why it’s so problematic but not surprising that the US is okay with us making an exception for them but not for other countries. It’s mindblowing and many people don’t even know that.

I live near the Ramstein Air Base and actually most of the people have a more positive stance on the base, but it still feels weird having us military police cruisers patrolling through the neighboring towns and cities. But it's also bad because if a conflict were to break out these bases will be the first locations that will be attacked, so all surrounding people are most likely screwed

I am from the Netherlands, I lived near the border with Germany. We are aware of the American military base in Germany. This base is important to us because we do not have a sufficient army. The EU knows that Europe depends too much on NATO, and maybe within a few years we will have a sufficient army as well. It was Trump, who made us aware of the fact that we were too dependent. Biden is different and wants the US to be the leader of the (free?) world. I personally think that is scary as well. This is for two main reasons. One reason is that this will create tension with Russia and China, who are important for our economy. And the second reason is that the American culture will be implemented, including no affordable healthcare and harsh conditions on the housing market for people with less money and no social security for people, who need it. We already feel American influence in Europe. Our social democracies are less social than a few decades ago. Do not get me wrong, I have nothing against American people. They are always very nice and polite and good in business (I do not count a few stupid tourists), the majority of the American people are nice and polite.

Recently, in my country Austria - one of the only 8 neutral countries worldwide - there was a serious traffic accident caused by a US military truck loaded with explosives. Many were then left wondering why foreign military forces (i.e., Americans' & NATO's) can legally transport military goods on neutral grounds but it is what it is (= completely legal), and apparently, it happens thousandfold every year. 🤷🏻♀️ What's also (kind of) hilarious is that the US makes South Korea pay 1.2 billion USD per year for its military presence there. It's like the most expensive subscription service you never asked for. 😂 On the positive side, it's uncancellable as well. Even though South Korea and the US are extremely close allies and probably always will be, there seems to be a growing anti-American tendency among the younger generation of Koreans. The older generations' inappropriately profound love for the US is another fascinating topic considering the US' major role as one of the two instigators in the devastating "Korean War" (or, as I like to call it, the US-Soviet-proxy war), that ended only few decades ago. The (far-)right political spectrum in SK is heavily supported by the US government. Some may even say that the far-right conservative pro-American People Power Party, who currently controls the presidency, got substantial "help" from the Biden administration during the election, and that it _might_ have been more than just emotional support. 😂 What I'm trying to say is - yes, Ryan, it's total worldwide madness.

We have the Pine Gap facility in the Northern territory, Australia, akin to the US Area 51 secret base, and I wouldn't be surprised if some kind of US input isn't going on with the Tindal RAAF Base as well, it is said that the air strip is being extended to accommodate the large American bombers and long range refuelers. I believe I fount this on maybe Wikipedia. There are only 2 US Military Bases in Australia, and they are both fairly small in size. They include the Pine Gap Surveillance station, and the Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt. ---------------------------------------------- Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt Location: Exmouth, Western Australia, Australia In use: 1967-Present Overall Mission: The only other US military base in Australia is the Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt, located in Western Australia. This base provides low frequency radio transmission communications to the United States Navy and the Royal Australian Navy. This was a communication hub for ships and fleets located in the western Pacific and eastern Indian oceans.

I was once in a US base in Germany as german conscript about two weeks or so. There was that agreement that German contingents should take over guard duties because Germany had not participated directly in the Irak war. The canteen was impressive. Our accommodations were dumps. I only had one conversation with an American when we could go to the Internet Cafe. I bought a bottle of Bakardi 151 and a huge pack of aspirin at a ridiculous price and smuggled them out. Wild experience and I did not realize back then, that it was that exceptional for a native German.

It's really quite startling, when it's laid out in black and white like this. You're absolutely correct when you say "no wonder we don't have universal healthcare or affordable education". Now we see clearly where your tax dollars are going. The thing that I found most strange about this video, is it's glaring omission about Corporate interests. There aren't 800 conflicts around the world. And while lots of those bases are stockpiling weapons, half of them exist solely to protect Corporate interests in places where the natives are restless. Or is that supposed to be a secret too?
