I've just bought my second Silvia. The first was purchased 22 years ago and serviced once!

Bought my Silvia back in 2007, still kicking out wonderful espressos. Changed water pump after 15 years as pressure just felt slowly getting weaker ($20 on ebay and 30 minute replacement job). Built like a tank meant to last a lifetime...

Bought my Version 1 fifteen years ago at a second hand shop for 200 usd. It was made in 1997. Lately I've been using it every day. Works great! (Especially after plugging it into an AC motor controller which allows me to control the pump so I can do pre-infusions. )

Bought my V2 Silvia six or seven years ago on gumtree. Cost me two fiddy and I pull six or eight coffees every day. Had to replace the pump last year, and a couple of washers and group head seal etc. Last year I also picked up a rocky grinder for $200 and the quality of my shots went right up. Love this machine 👍🇦🇺

I've had my v2 Silvia (with PID) for nearly 20 years and it is just now needing a new steam valve. Really bulletproof machine.

do you have any links to videos which detail the steps of adding the gaggiuno device?

@Rydecoffeecoach great vid as always - would you say the Profitec GO is better than the Silvia, and most importantly for me, better in creating silkier milk?
@Rydecoffeecoach3 ай бұрын
Thanks! I didnt find the milk silkier on the Go but both were a bit clunky to hold. Overall, I would say the GO is better for ease of use. If you don't plan on modding, stick with the GO for sure!

I'm sure if I was looking for a machine today, there would be other machines I'd seriously consider. Being a Silvia owner, I'm content with what I have. I do have a PID on it. It would be pretty cool to have flow control on it some day.
@Rydecoffeecoach3 ай бұрын
But the fact that you did buy a Silvia means I was correct. It's the best entry level machine out there and it's allowed you to grow and learn about coffee hasn't it? Now that you've got one you can level up to a better machine.

bought a 2014 version and it tripped my electrics every time used it, when it did work temp would come up at all maybe a dodge one but no pid no pressure gauge is bit upsetting and you still have to shell out extra 100-200 for those mods so at 700 ish, i want to love it i may rebuy a v6 and try again but learning to temp surf seems awkward and gimmicky?

also thinking about lelit anna pl41tem or victoria which has PID and pressure gauge, genuine thoughts? want help
@Rydecoffeecoach3 ай бұрын
for ease of use, Lelit Victoria for sure. The Anna is good but its 57mm so thats going to trip you up everytime you go to buy a new tamper, basket, puck screen, dispersion screen, portafilter etc. Profitec Go is also great. I just did a review vs Rancilio Silvia.

Love the enthusiasm, but if each machine gets a glowing review it does not help with choosing! How about putting them head to head: Silvia vs Stone, Stone vs Gaggia Pro, Breville vs Profitec Go, etc. in the same price range. Appreciate your work!

I get it. I probably don't talk about the machines I don't like enough but these machines are the best of the hundreds out there. Interesting that you say put them head to head, this video is actually setting up for exactly that! Two weeks from now I'm putting Silvia head to head with another machine!

Question. I love the Sylvia. I seem to end up with a bitter shot with fresh beans. I do 18 in 36 out. Flush at 30 seconds then pull at the 50 mark. I do start the timer shot on auto when it hits the cup. What am o doing wrong not to get a smooth taste shot?
@Rydecoffeecoach3 ай бұрын
Don't start the timer when it hits the cup, start it the moment you press the extraction button. If its not hitting your cup for 7s its going to be too bitter and you should coarsen your grind. Total time should be ~30s from when you press go to when you get 36g out. This should help fix the bitterness 👌

i still confuse for beginer , i want to make good espresso , wich is prefer i choose between rancilio silva or flair 58
@RydecoffeecoachАй бұрын
Oooh, its super hard to compare the two as they are both so different, but IMO the Flair 58 makes better extractions but it doesnt do milk and requires a lot of manual labour (but then again, the Rancilio requires lots of finnessing in order to get a great coffee from it too!). If you are prepared to learn about extractions and don't mind the more manual part of making coffee AND you never require milk or can use a different machine for it, then go the Flair 58.
@noskipdayАй бұрын

My Sunbeam EM6910 is still going strong after 15 years. Makes 5-6 coffees a day and still consistently hits 9 bar. Absolute workhorse for a domestic machine, the Silvia is next on my list if the sunbeam ever dies..

This was another great review. What do you think of the Ninja Luxe Cafe for $499 USD? Are you considering doing a review of it? Thank you for great content! I watched someone's review of it and thought as they went through it that you probably would have pointed out a few details about the type of grinder, if it's detached from the machine, boiler size, deeper critique of the quad espresso and other brews, and the temperature of milk, etc. 😊
@Rydecoffeecoach3 ай бұрын
Thanks! I don't know if I'll review the Ninja Luxe, because it seems like they're not taking things seriously. Whether Meraki can build reliable products remains to be seen, but they definitely are taking it very seriously. There aren't gimmicks on this machine.

Not sure I’m up for buying something that I immediately have to begin modding. How does it compare to the Pro?
@Rydecoffeecoach3 ай бұрын
It's not that you have to start modding, it's there if you want to. But yeh, the Pro is much better and easier to make coffee on.
@IIIxwaveIII3 күн бұрын
isnt the gaggia classic pro E24 cheaper and "better"?
@coffeesnob19923 ай бұрын
Yep the Rancilio is a great value espresso machine, except for that damn drip tray that they have never wanted to fix lol. The Gaggia on the other hand will face stiff competition from Meraki and Ninja.

My only gripe with this machine is the protruding bolt in the shower screen.
@-Demis-3 ай бұрын
You can switch this out for a countersunk cap screw (Allen key head) you just need to carefully drill the silver spacer behind the screen to allow room for it. Works even better if you switch shower screens to one that uses a counter sunk screw 🎉
@petes_CE3 ай бұрын
@@-Demis- Thanks for the suggested solutions. It seems like a simple fix. Though, I do believe that for the price of the machine, I shouldn't have to mod it out of the box.
@kostaskostas24702 ай бұрын
Good video. But without a PID you need some sort of temp surfing. To install one you need some engineering skills and yes there are videos telling you how to do it but not everyone feels confident this way.

@goldencalf51443 күн бұрын
@@LeoKrupps-c9j The year is 2025, not 1955. China is the manufacturing powerhouse of the world. They make the best electric cars and you probably wrote your comment on a Chinese made phone. So I think they're not going to have too much trouble making a simple espresso machine that consists of a boiler, pump, solenoid valve and thermostat.
