Verdun, Tannenberg and Isonzo are three very different games. The gunplay and such is similar but the maps are very different as they are meant to represent different styles of warfare during WWI. Verdun was really popular for a long time as it was the first but when the devs announced the sequel Tannenberg, it split the fanbase as it was a standalone game. It had some gameplay improvements but it was pretty similar so maybe it should've been DLC. Ever since Tannenberg released the games playerbase dwindled as it basically got split. I'd say Isonzo is different enough in some ways to warrant a wholely separate game but in others... not so much. I know the devs love the games though. I did beta testing on Tannenberg and the devs care the most about historical authenticity. Verdun was made because they wanted to make a fully historically accurate game about WWI, or at the very least feel like one. I dont know if it is active or not, but they had a discord server where they would regularly just talk about history. I dont think the dev team is huge. Games are great but its a shame about the playerbase size.

I've been on and off of "Isonzo" since day one. I find that most new players leave because it's not fast-paced, run and gun action. It's true to WWI in that you have to rush the enemy, take massive losses, and somehow wrestle away a capture or bomb by pure grit and dedication. The officers also make a world of difference, bad officers lead to losing more often than not. And if the scouts and officers aren't working in conjunction with one another, it severely hampers the team's ability to advance, or hold a position. If people communicate like they do in "Hell Let Loose" they often find themselves absolutely overwhelming the enemy. But even if nobody is talking, it's still fun to get crazy and ruin somebody's day with a bayonet to the chest, or a climbing pick to the head. I'm about to hop back into Isonzo again for the first time in two months, I don't think I'll ever actually put the game down. I hope you and your Discord community can put together some servers and just have an absolute time of it like us veterans do.

I can't believe you put Darkest Hour here... played this many years ago and was like a constant player back then. I didn't like the direction it went with the base building and whatnot but it was a ton of fun especially when that game was like a light in the darkness for me.

Yo, big ups for covering urban terror. Most servers are empty, but there are at least 2 ctf servers that are constantly full, and many other servers which fill and empty throughout the day either by chance or by pre-scheduled play times. The recent tourney you mentioned had over 4k games played in it. 5.0 Is coming. The devs are an all volunteer staff with all the usual other commitments, so it's slow going, but the game is currently in closed alpha testing. Also the jumping you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg for UrT movement. It's the movement that has kept me playing all these years, the more you progress at learning the deeper the gameplay goes.

I love how you give these games justice. You give them a genuine try and try to see why they were popular, and even try to find extra info about them. There are real people who spent hundreds or thousands of hours of their life on those games, and it's definitely worth it to try and see why. I would suggest you try Tribes 1 and 2, Enemy Territory Legacy, Quake Wars, and Renegade X, as well, for the next games.

I actually remember playing Isonzo for a fair bit of time. I also played Verdun aswell. Both great games but the biggest issue is that it just get's repetitive. When isonzo first came out with in 20-30 hours of the game I was racking up 80-100+ kills each game with the Officer or Marksman class. While being at the top of the leaderboard was fun after some time it just felt like the more experienced you got at the game the less interesting it got. But when you start fresh something about being cannon fodder and fearing for your character's life is what made the game fun from the start. but again my biggest issue is that once you learned the mechanics, artillery calling spots and how to overpower the entire team you become an overpowered killing machine which defeats the whole purpose of re-creating the horrors of WW1. Although this is technically not the developers fault I can't help but point out this is one of the reasons why I stopped playing the game.

Easy Red 2 has just a small audience, it's game made by a single dev that constantly updates the game since 2020 and considering the state from 2020 the game has improved a lot - it's has less junk and whole animations got changed this year Game even got 3 DLCs, has full mod support and map editor - there's a lot of community maps and missions to download, most of them are shovelware (missions without page preview) but good missions are good. Plus game is very cheap, I recommend buying Normandy DLC from the start because this campaign is a very top quality compared to other ones, the rest if you want to support the dev or you want to do some community maps

When I got into PC gaming back around 2011 I remember hearing about tribes and how good it was. I tried Ascend around when it came out but being a noob to PC gaming a family computer that couldn't really "run" the game so much as show me slideshows of this game called Tribes. Of course I dropped it then and there but it's always sat at the back of my mind knowing how beloved the game was and how unique of a role it played in the FPS scene. I'm glad to hear that there's a new game coming out for all of the fans who stuck around.

Oh man, randomly clicked this & seeing Tribes Ascend really sent me back. It somehow feels like it was older than 2012, but that's mostly because 2012 was a special year in its own way, where a lot of my time was filled between WoW & Tribes. Good times :')

Your videos are awesome. The music, storytelling, funny moments, and research. Even I feel "nostalgic" for those games I´ve never played before. Nice job! New sub here.

Seeing Isonzo, or technically the entire WW1 series here, makes me very sad. The playerbase is incredibly dedicated, but also so small...

Oh I remember Tribes Ascend. Dude the gameplay was soooo good. I really loved how the Play button was grayed out just right to keep you waiting in anticipation of maybe possibly pressing it one day. I uninstalled shortly after and forgot the game existed.

Looking on these games and people who play in them I'm feeling a strong sense of hopelessness, these games feel like a limbo for dead souls. But on the other side that looks kinda wholesome how people are able to enjoy games that no one knows about

Back when I played Darkest Hour you would suddenly end up in a scrim, everyone expected to join up go to Whatever voice program was used at the time and play seriously, you had no clue what was happening, crawling with you squad for half an hour not knowing who was dead or alive in your team because there were no scoreboard until the game was over, omg so much fun!
