Clash of the Arcadians my new series where i challenge anyone to any classic arcade game.
My first challenger is Tony Riccardi a regular volunteer at the Arcade Archive and excellent game player. The game we have chosen is Rygar, easy to pick up but hard to master and being quite evenly matched this is going to be very tough and competitive clash.

Enjoyed that Alex! There was something really nice, old school and pure watching that....I suppose it's the memories from back in the day of being super competitive and wanting to win, throwing in some banter to get the psychological edge over your mate yet at the same time encouraging and supporting them once it's their go - that's what it's all about! :)

Well played!!! Great fun watching this, had to pop a bottle of brew for it. :) One tip for the next round: - if you run out of weapons near the end of a level, most of them are good places to stop and pick off the usually slow trickle of randomly spawned monsters, until time runs out. You can usually pick up at least one, maybe two powerups to get you going in the next map this way. In other words, your kill-count is tied to the powerups spawning... (edit: sp)

Alex put up a valiant fight with amazing skill, and it was nail-biting in parts from both of you, but a massive congrats to Tony for showcasing patience and nerves of Steel during his run. Rygar is a stone cold classic and was brilliant to see this play out. Please make more of these face offs they are superb watching. 🍻

Great competition guys. Reminds me of going into Cascade in Nottingham in the early 80s to see if any of my mates initials were on the high score boards then trying to knock them off.

The 100th digit of your score needs to match the last digit of seconds remaining. So if your score is 40,500 then you need to have 5 seconds, 15, 25, 35 etc left on the clock as the level ends. You must hold down and left on the joystick at the same time and you will get a 10,000 point bonus

Great video! I only complete Rygar for the first time this year on an emulator. Lord knows how much nyou'd have to spend in coins, as it's a super long game too

The game works it’s just the monitor we need to get fixed. Hopefully we can find a replacement soon and get it going because it’s going to be so much to see that working again.

That’s what it’s all about two people having a go on a game, banter and cheering and high scores. I can’t say I have played Rygar very much but it looks like a decent fun and challenging game. One day I’ll get there and we can have a Time Pilot, Tutankham or Raiden play off :)

It's made by 'Postern Cabinets', at least the cabinet itself. Unsure if another company just used them to build the cabinet. I have a driving variant made in 1993.

I can see from the video it's three lives to start, extra life at 50000, 200000, 500000. The difficulty level I can only guess is normal
