so his older brother was his inner version of himself he made up after his mothers death to protect him. kinda a split personality imaginary friend coping mechanism. much love guys and please keep up the great twenty one pilots reactions. |-/

tyler wrote this song after his first niece was born and he was feeling super proud a and protective of his family. The verse about people in your driveway was inspired by a story about his cousins where one of them knew karate and defended their brother against a rival school football team that turned up at their house after he mouthed them off. Tyler said he knows his hands are to soft to punch anyone so he would need a bat to defend his family 🤣 different to the story in the video but interesting to know how it originated.

Yeah, the twist pulled the rug out from under me as well. From what I understand Josh is a fan of Fight Club. It does make you look at how the kid turned into a rebellious outcast since he went through losing his mom and an absent/alcoholic father without anyone there to help guide him through the pain and the loss. He probably started off just being a clown to get attention but had never develop the social skills to work through the fear of abandonment, which then of course kept him an outsider. This one would be tough to watch after a string of NF videos 😕 But I love lyrics. Tyler did write them with family in mind. But they also apply to those people in your life who stick with you through it all no matter what. The “blood brothers from another mother” … which also describes Tyler and Josh’s relationship. When you can find a friend like that, cherish it. When asked which video was their most favorite to make, Tyler has said this one since they are hardly in it 😹They just had to play a house party gig 😜 But then again, he ends up cold and wet or in some other uncomfortable situation in a lot of them.

"I'll jump right in,... and pull my pin"... That's such an inspiring, confusing, heroic, & apocalyptic lyric.
@powersofdestruction5694 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s kinda interesting how he became ready to abandon his delusion when the “younger brother”, the weaker and more anxious one, was ready to defend the older one, whose hard and rebellious exterior finally was having dangerous consequences. He finally reached a place mentally where he could be strong without needing to externalize that strength to someone else.

So glad you came back to TOP! I've been patiently waiting... Tyler said in an interview that this was his favorite video to shoot because they were barely in it. A lot of their newer videos, and some older ones, have them out in the cold or laying in water- generally uncomfortable. This one they just had to be the band at a party. I like this song a lot but I think I love the Brooklyn sessions version a little better. I wish they'd do the whole Brooklyn sessions, and Unplugged, and the live stream concert, and and and ... Well everything!

Tyler and Josh have joked during interviews that this was their favorite video to film, because they are hardy in it. All of their other videos have been filmed outside in the cold usually with them wet at some point as well. Or inside while wet or doing strange things that they said were challenging like the duct tape on their faces in the Guns for Hands video! Great reaction! Thank you for more Twenty One Pilots!! Much ❤️!!

What's great about this music video is that it's one of the few Twenty One Pilots music videos that is pretty easy to understand and straightforward. Most of their other ones have some deeper meaning that confuses most people when they first watch them and then delve into the lore of DEMA. This one is heartfelt and gut wrenching at the same time and conveys its message very well.

One of my TØP faves! I feel like this whole song is a double entendre. "Stay with me my blood, you don't need to run." This can be talking about suicide and also about close family or friends that go to war with you through the hardships of life and loss. "I'll pull my pin (and pen) and jump right in, and go with you." Another double. I'll pull the pin on my grenade and die for you against anything, but I will also pull my "pen" and write these lyrics about our friendship (Tyler to Josh). Love it!

My Blood is one of my favorite songs of Twenty One Pilots in addition to the video that is a work of art the lyrics can be interpreted in 2 main ways, the first is to dedicate to a family member such as a brother or sister but can also be interpreted to dedicate it to ourselves, Tyler when playing it live many times in the part of "stay with me, my blood you don't need to run" points to his wrists, I have always interpreted that Tyler does it for self-harm and basically giving that positive message to their fans ❤️🩹

around 5 years ago, the boss of the religious childcare that i worked for (who was also my godmother and basically half raised me) found out that i'm queer. she told me that if anyone from the church found out and wanted me fired, she wouldn't defend me. It was her daughter- my best friend and god sister- that outed me to her. this song meant so much to me during those few months before i finally quit; i would play it in my car on my way home from work, singing it to myself, reassuring myself that i would stick with who i am and not abandon myself. whenever i hear it now, it brings me so much comfort and makes me so proud of how far i've come

Couldn’t watch this fast enough. I was definitely curious to see your reaction to the twist- knew you would love this. I’ve always viewed this as a perfect representation of a young kids way of coping in this scenario- we all know that kid that acts out, causes ‘trouble’ in a cry for help. I’m sure the stories of how this MV came about are in the comments but just another way Tyler conveys ideas that is awesome. Also I totally agree on the pringles thing & you are actually the first person other than me I’ve heard say that 😂. I think I should send you some Aussie chips since you like trying things- we have some bloody good ones

I loved your reaction to My Blood! So glad you caught that the older brother was imaginary. So many reactors completely miss that. This song is on Trench, but I see it almost showing how a character like Blurryface can be created as a defense mechanism during hard times (not to say this depicted Tyler's life). The bass on My Blood is amazing! I was absolutely blown away by it when this song came out and it continues to get me every time I hear this song. The bass and Tyler's falseto. Honestly both are amazing. Tyler played bass on Blurryface, but he further developed his bass playing for Trench! Man I love Trench. I think I need to play it right now! I can't wait to see what you watch next.

I’ve just binged most of y’all’s TØP reactions, and I’m ecstatic y’all like them. I wanted to say that you might have more context if you go back and watch knowing the fact that they’re a christian band. Just like Flyleaf they don’t really shove it in your face but lots of imagery can be seen and Tyler likes to use lyrics of lots of the songs in context of him talking to God. Also there are obviously many layers to the albums… but they kinda tell stories together. For instance in Blurryface they kinda personify mental health problems, and in Trench they go back and destroy Blurryface. Also in most albums there’s usually a love song.
