Great videos. I bought one a month ago. How do you take off the side chute and just install and leave the mulched cover on. Or, is there a way to leave the flap up because I do have to bend down to get it through a gate.

hello - i am wondering if you had any update on the battery longevity and if you were able to get in touch with Ryobi? My biggest concern is battery longevity; the other lawn equipment i have (4&5 Ah, 40v) either stop working or don't last long after relatively short usage. thanks for the video and your review, it was very helpful.

I love my Ryobi riding mower. I also have 3 40V Ryobi push mowers including my daughters self-propelled Ryobi push mower. She uses her to mow lawns for some extra cash. I am now 100% electric for my lawn care and I installed 2 solar panels on my shed so they all charge for free. My cost of operation is $0 other than buying blades. In my opinion corded mowers are a pain and potentially dangerous. You can pick up a returned Ryobi push mower for around $200 and occasionally $150 on FB marketplace. I buy another one here and there because they come with the 6AH battery that cost almost $200 alone. I also don't miss smelling like gas and exhaust.

I'm finishing my aerospace engineering degree and I have 3 kids in private school so my 3 solar panels were bought on a shoe string budget. lol Since I will likely get a slightly bigger house a few years after I graduate I'm on the fence about pulling the trigger on a solar system for my current house. My area gets around 60% sun here in North Alabama so I'm toying with a turbine as well. By the time I actually have the budget to do a full set up I should have learned 90% of what I need to know to do it all myself. Nick in Palatka I am in Palatka Florida; my mower is now close to 3 years and has 143 hours (after 99.9 hours, it looses the 1/10 place) . I run my dog daily, frequently with using the mower as a go-cart. I am blessed to live on one acre, in a rural area, and my home was built on the one acre carved from the local cable TV's head end (receiving towers) on 10 acres, so there is lots of area that I am blessed to have access to. The rear axle oil that they said needs to be changed at 100 hours is not difficult to do, but does require removing the batteries to access. I did the change just after 100 hours; it was not difficult and think that the rear axle may be very slightly quieter. I had the batteries tested at the time and they all tested fine. My mower is stored in an open shed, well protected from rain, but exposed to regular Florida temperatures, for me up to 95°F heat and almost never below freezing. The mover is almost always kept plugged in (I would guess about 15 various days over almost 3 years not plugged in) and I would say that is why the batteries do so well. Upon returning from 3 weeks vacation, I discovered that it would go neither forward or reverse, but the blade would run. Ryobi has been really good with help over the phone; they sent me a .pdf of electrical troubleshooting. Reviewing that file gave me the courage to open up the control panel, which quickly led to the revelation that rats had eaten away the wiring going to 9 connections. This, for me, was not a difficult fix, requiring wiring, soldering, and some hear shrink tubing. I also followed up with some Honda Rodent resistant electrical tape. With the 3 year warranty on these mowers, I am pretty sure Ryobi would send you a replacement RMO switch at no charge. You might want to pull the screws holding the panel on, and check the connections. Good Luck

I bought one of these last year. I absolutely loved it. This season after being in an unheated garage the battery has degraded by 2/3rds. The only reason that I could think of might have been being in the cold. If that was the case they should give folks a warning about that. So disappointed. I wanted it to work for me so badly. Bought a zero turn yesterday, takes half the time. Unfortunately had to go back to gas.
@jackanddan
@jackanddan 3 жыл бұрын
We did a couple follow-ups after this you should watch them we believe the battery was defective from the get-go and we replaced it it’s basically a wheelchair battery it cost $200 it’s been working better than when we bought it since that point a very small investment to fix a very big problem…. The other three batteries tested fine so hopefully they will continue that way we do have an attached garage it has a heater but we don’t necessarily use it it’s still warmer than being in a shed though …. I went over the manual and they did recommend not leaving it in the shed so that’s why I moved it to the garage as opposed to where I had my old gas mower basically just took some stuff out of the garage put it in the shed so that this would have room in the garage….Good luck with your new mower we’re keeping this one and hopefully the videos that we have done will help people to learn ways to deal with these issues it’s got about a half 1 million views between all the videos we’ve done and KZbin has basically paid for the mower completely for us which is nice by doing these videos but we have also sent them all the Ryobi and they have never reach back out to us and we don’t really care if they do or not

Learned through initial research it’s good to ‘exercise’ the batteries in winter. I’ve done so by ‘mole rolling’ (pulling my neighbors weighted roller) once or twice, or, simply mowing late, an unnecessary mow to simply exercise the batteries. 100 amp batteries have decreased some in three years, but still do amazingly well..

I have the 75Amp rider. It’s a love hate relationship. The first two years, I could mow for an hour and a half without any worries. By the end of the third season, the charge wasn’t lasting as long and now into my fourth season, I no longer can mow my entire yard on one charge. As of this writing in June of 2021, it will cost over $600 to replace all four batteries, but I will endure through this season if possible. The hour meter reset to zero in the second year, which others have complained about as well. I will be curious to see if you hear from Ryobi as it seems they ignore anything to do with these mowers. I do like the maintenance free aspect of these mowers, that is no oil change and filters. No spark plugs or mower belts! But, you make up those expenses when it’s time to replace the batteries.

We actually did reach out to them and we did discuss the battery life and the batteries can be tested individually to see if something is wrong with one or more of them we will be doing a video on this as soon as we can just like for you since I got the hundred amp it has more than enough power to finish the yard now that the grass is dried out and there’s no longer leaves I’m still only using half the battery and it’s been over two years now however when the leaves start to come we most likely will run out so we are looking into taking it apart testing the batteries in finding out if we need to replace one or more….Ryobi connected us with a supplier for the batteries but we are going to be looking for other sources as well that we may be able to get them for a lower cost again like always we will be making videos about all these things and posting them along the way to help people with what we find out good luck to you and stay tune for more

@@jackanddan Bought mine a few years ago and haven't noticed a change on charge/run times, also still on the stock blades. I mow roughly 2 acres, even sticks and the occasional pinecones. Been considering replacing the stock batteries (996239001 LPC12-100) with lithium batteries. I'm researching this idea as the weight savings would make it worth it since the stockers weight like 65lbs each. Plus the potential for higher mAh gives longer run times. Though lithium would require a different charger, etc. etc. etc.

Here is a current update from my initial comment. Midway into the fourth season and what I’m noticing is exactly what I’ve heard other’s commenting about elsewhere, and that is the battery level indicator is not reliable. Either that, or the batteries lose power suddenly. Sometimes, I’m able to mow my entire lawn, but barely, and other times I’m only able to mow the front yard. What’s odd, is when I can mow the entire yard, the battery indicator light bars show plenty of power, but then drop rapidly when it gets to the final 20 minutes. You would expect after a half hour of mowing, the battery strength bar would’ve dropped a couple bars, but the full charge light is still on. After 45 minutes, only a couple bars have dropped, making me think I’ll have no problem finishing up. Then, towards the final 20 minutes, begins to drop quickly. Either way, it’s looking like I’ll be replacing the batteries next year, if not sooner. I read a comment elsewhere, that the charger that comes with the mower is junk! I have zero knowledge about what makes a good charging unit. I still like the concept of electric mowers, and would definitely consider another one in the future.

The grass was high so it using the whole battery isn't bad. That is good it stops the blade so you can get back to where you need to so you can plug it in. FW and have a great day.

Lead acid batteries have me worried about longevity as well....but for the price point of the mower, that's expected. Also, the seat safety switch is a NO switch, that closes when you sit on it....so to bypass it, you would cut the wires and splice them together. As for bouncy / suspension issues...I recently installed a K&M low profile seat suspension spring assembly on my Ryobi Zero turn....HIGHLY recommended, as the OEM ride quality is terrible.

The flip side of lead acid is cheap to replace, you lose a battery or cell in a Lith-ion setup you may as well throw the mower away. With the Ego its more than half the cost of the mower to replace batteries. Id much rather be able to replace lead acid any day truthfully even if they die within 2-3 years of usage.

Just wondering if you had any issues with the chute clogging while you were mowing such long grass? I live in a fairly wet climate in Australia and the grass is rarely 100% dry. I live on 1 acre and cant mow until mid afternoon to allow the dew to dry. However, my chute clogs all the time unless I drive at walking pace (sometimes slower). I tend to cut at the second from lowest notch and mow almost every week in summer. It becomes pretty frustrating having to unclog the chute, and the clogging gets more frequent the more damp the chute becomes. When I have sessions when clogging becomes frequent, the batter doesn’t last the entire mow. For this episode, did you do two passes? Ie mow half cut, and then final cut? Do you have any clogging issues?
@jackanddan
@jackanddan 2 жыл бұрын
not much only when really wet....we also don't cut ours very short at all....only at the half way point on the needle....otherwise it dries out and dies where we live....the leaves can sometimes try to clog if they are wet and we have this little technique where we shake the tube while we are driving and we've shown it in videos and will share it again this Fall....we used to do it with our old gas mower too because it would try to clog with the wet leaves too....just grab the handle and shake it every time around or so and it helps a lot....especially with the oak leaves because they are small and hard and tend to stay whole in the shoot whereas the maples just chop up to bits

Totally however we have used it twice since we shot this video and it definitely seems to be that there is some decrease in the life of the battery we are talking to Ryobi I’m trying to come up with another negotiation we will be doing a video on what happens for sure and how everything transpires.... we can understand losing some life under the conditions but an hour is an excusable when it should last 2 1/2 that’s for sure.... we are sharpening the mulcher blade and putting that out and finally taking the bags off for a short period of time but in a couple months they’ll end up just going right back on it is nice to zip around on it and mulch the jack loves it.... we did get your email by the way and responded to let you know that it was us let us know will all work out with you so we can figure something out he will be a lot of fun😀😀👍👍

I've watched your videos and others who own this mower and was stoked to get mine. I bought mine back in May 2021 and six months later the batter guage only reads half and worse yet the mower does not move at all. After spending hours on phone calls with Ryobi, Home Depot, and their insurance company (don't know why I had to make all these calls) Home Depot took it to send out for repairs. Home Depot was not in the least bit surprised, stating they have many many issues with this mower dying right at the six month point. Why in all the reviews I watched on KZbin has this not been addressed? Is it just mine? Will this happen again in another six months? Ahhhh 🤦‍♂️
@jackanddan
@jackanddan 2 жыл бұрын
We have not had those issues....we did have one battery with an issue and did videos right after this one showing how we tested them to find out which one was bad and how we got the replacement and they are in the playlist in the description. Not sure what's going on with yours but if it happened at the 6th month mark then that should be warrantied at least from what they told us.....our issues happened after that so we fixed them and again documented then to help others....good luck to you and perhaps those videos would be helpful....just go to the playlist and you can scroll through and find the mower videos very easily

The other thing that was weird was, when we first got ours, we would use it for about 1-2 hours, and the battery level would only drop down 2 bars, the blue bar and then one green bar. Now a year later just about, we barely use it for an hour and the battery is almost dead.
