I’ve bought and taken apart the older batteries that you compared here, and the cells they use are tabless 18650 cells. I’ve got a couple hundred of those cells sitting on my work bench right now. For the price, if you go to Direct Tools, the older batteries can be purchased for a WHOLE LOT less money. The older 4 ah batteries run great in all of my tools. I just don’t see any advantage to the new battery, except for running cooler and shorter charge times.

I was surprised that the fan ran the same with both batteries. So if you have a lot of fans and few tools it's cheaper to buy and use the original battery.

Since the overall capacity of both batteries are the same, the runtime on the fans will be the same too... So I agree with your assessment regarding your proposed use case in fans. Its just not worth the extra money.

I'm sorry. All I got from this video was that it charges 18 minutes faster from dead. No torque test on the drill, no temperature measurements,... only claims that I have yet seen proven. More hyped than the actual results.

I have a ton of Ryobi batteries including the HP 4ah, HP 9ah and a couple of the newer HP 12ah. I dont abuse my batteries or tools and I am just a DYI'er. I can attest that without a doubt, the new edge battery with tabless 21700 cells is way BETTER than the 4ah HP (18650 cells) when talking about "power" output. When using it in a leaf blower and vacuum, there is a noticeable difference in blower air output/speed and more suction when using the vacuum. I would say that the edge IS comparable to the HP 9ah in power output (air output and vacuum suction) but the 9ah flatout runs way longer. For reference my tester P194 was mfg in 2019. The 4ah edge battery compared to the HP 12ah... the power output of the 12ah is still better, and there is no comparison when it comes to runtime. If you are satisfied with your tools current power output and are looking for more run time, the edge battery is NOT worth the extra money, especially with all of the sales going on with the HP 4ah. If you want a lighter battery with substantially more power and dont care about money, then get the edge battery. I only bought one 4ah edge battery to test out and I will NOT be buying any more because of the price. I can also verify that it takes about 30 minutes to charge a 4ah edge battery in the newer 8ah Ryobi charger and the battery didnt get very hot. I cant want to see TTC test the edge battery with impact guns!

If you have a ryobi blue drill, I would like to see what it does to the drill.

its about time they put vents in the 4ah's. that honestly could have been the only upgrade and would have been worth it you should have temp-tested your saw when it was about to melt. I got one of their tools up past 210f once. I don't know why the cooling on them is so bad.

The 3ahr HP are junk. They don't HP. Anything that pulls too much, the battery can't keep up. The 6ahr HPs have issues 50% chance of a pack unable to hold charge. So far the 4ahr right along the line seem to have the best service life.

Hmmm. I think your going to see stress in output-- stress in charging and quicker battery pack failure. NO LONGER customers stating "Ive had this battery 6:8 years and it still holds a charge. The engineer's are a long way from the worker that use the older battery's 6 days a week....10 hours a day. Think, use common sense, Thank You.

There’s a difference between high performance H.P batteries. So there’s a missing battery here in your lineup.

I think the new Ryobi EDge is ok. Well the normal 4 amp is vrey close to the edge. It’s the same battery just get to normal 4 amp you will get the same run time and the change almost the same. Just get the normal 4 amp battery!
