I use this and it's sure easier to live with than my old gas/oil trimmer. Powerful enough, but it is not something a landscape pro could use all day unless you buy more batteries.

I purchased one about 3 weeks ago. Used it twice, LOVE it, so far.

I just got one hasn't arrived yet. Been watching videos about it. I already have the 40 volt electric mower but I absolutely love this. Will just be a great addition. I also bought a 1-hour charger which is fantastic

My solution: three of the 6AH batteries + fast charger + solid cutterhead for the trimmer. The latter will work through heavy(ish) weeds and tree sprouts. I have three batteries because I also have the AWD 21" mower and the blower. The 6AH batteries work for as long as I care to keep at any given task at my age. I also have one of the 16" chainsaws on backorder at HD and I'm glad to say that I sold off the last of my gasoline-powered tools at a garage sale last weekend. Those batteries are eyewarteringly expensive so I'm hoping that the life is decent.

I've got the 18 volt Ryobi string trimmer and I love it! The battery lasts an hour and a half easy and I've never had a problem cuts through stuff. Great! I'm thinking about getting the hedge trimmer 18 volt

@kimmybear117 well 8 years is a pretty good run for a product like that. Like I said I love mine

Thanks for the review. I have had a Worx trimmer for the past 3 years an it is ready to be retired. A note about the fast charger, If you fast charge your battery you will reduce the life of the battery. As these batteries begin to age(more charge cycles), the capacity will begin to drop. Using a fast charger all the time just accelerates the decline. The best solution is to use multiple batteries so you can slow charge them overnight. You should be able to buy extra slow chargers cheap from all the people buying the fast chargers. So, how did I get my Worx trimmer to last so long. Easy. I made an adapter for the trimmer so I could use the 6.0 AH batteries I use on my Porter Cable Drills and such. I have many of these batteries and switch them out just before they die. I did the same trick with my battery operated blower and now I can do all the lawn maintenance and clean-up with two batteries. I am getting tired of the weak trimmer line of the Worx so I will probably switch to Ryobi tools and garden stuff. Thanks again!!!!!

Thanks for the info on the fast chargers. Maybe a second slow charger and a second battery would be the best solution. 👌

One extra important benefit of an electric lawn tool that is often ignored, is that with gas tools they don't have catalytic converters. So you're breathing really bad fumes while doing work. Plus that tool is close to your nose.

This is my second summer with this trimmer. I love it. I have not ever used the whole battery. I use it edging my fence and around trees, etc.
@kgrdiy19286 ай бұрын
Same here. I've used it for edging primarily. So far I can't complain, it does a good job. But I'm definitely getting the fast charger. Thanks for sharing 👍

You should have gotten the 60v trimmer now that will last even longer also. But it's all about taking care of your equipment, that's all cause the longer you take good care of your stuff it will last.
@kgrdiy19284 ай бұрын
@@dlivex9492 I agree. It's all about taking care of your equipment. 👍

You don't note the length. I think this is the slightly older one that looks like that. Warning about adding new string: You have to make sure all the old string is out. I didn't see any string and couldn't add new string, but it turned out that I still had a very little bit in there. Very frustrating until I figured that out. Another factor is that you have to watch not overfilling the reel. I couldn't get it back on when I had taken it off because one side was filling faster than the other. I could not get it to seat putting it back on. It went on empty relatively easier and then I rethreaded the line.

I like having the slow chargers for my 18 volt and 40 volt Ryobi batteries. I don't use my fast chargers at all. All lithium batteries have a specific amount of times they can be charged from depletion to full (cycles). If they are charged quickly they are heated up more. This extra heat causes them to degrade faster, hence needing the battery be replaced earlier. I keep extra Ryobi batteries instead so I will always have a full battery when using my tools. In the long term, i'll save more money on batteries, since I'll have more rechage cycles with the batteries.
@dm2854 ай бұрын
Ryobi was really never meant for commercial or professional use and thats why you never see a professional landscaper using same. But for a homeowner that only needs short and lite duty work trimming/edging, yes Ryobi is ok.

It would be helpful to specify the exact model you are reviewing. There is a new model out in mid-2024, and I don't know if you are reviewing it or the older one. I think you are reviewing the older one (40290), but I am not certain.

Note: the faster you charge a battery.. the faster they will 'die' (in the long run..) they like to trickle charge. Same with any electronics. Its just a new way of thinking about 'power'

Those chargers are horrible. I use the one with lawn mower. I have the older version of trimmer and it does the job well for small and medium yards.

It's a great trimmer but it needs the fast charger. My battery lasts long enough to do my entire yard.
