Mow down those weeds with the RYOBI 40V HP 16" String Trimmer. You get a carbon fiber shaft and two speeds for efficiency or power. Just pull the trigger on the 40-volt HP string trimmer and the head spins to life in just one second. You can run up to 0.095" line on the bump-feed head, and the guard allows you to adjust the cutting swath from 14" to 16". Get the RYOBI RY40HPST01 40V HP String Trimmer from Home Depot for $279, including the 4Ah battery and charger. You also get a 5-year warranty.

Good Video! I wanted to see a review before I purchased one of these. Thanks

I just got the older model of that trimmer, it shreds. I run it at about 70% since even that is well more than needed for anything. Also got the hedge trimmer attachment, really nice

From what I see the main difference between the 15inch, 16inch, and the 17inch trimmer is the motor is bigger and more efficient. The 15 is equal to a 25cc gas, the 16 = 27cc, 17= 28cc. The 15 has steel shaft, and some are brushed motors. The 16 has a carbon shaft and brushless motor and has the brush head attachment the 17 is a fixed folding shaft with the motor on the head and whisper quit. For me the. On sale price difference between the 15 and the 16 was only $40 so I purchased the 16. As for the 17 I did not consider around $100 more expensive and does not have interchangeable shafts. I do not have any interchangeable tool but it is a nice option to have. Down the road I will probably buy the edger and possibly the snow blower

I think the 17-in is also part of the quiet series. So that's something to consider as well. I am looking at the 16 inch one right now, because it's a new price of $200 with the battery and charger with the interchangeable shafts.

Low speed does very well for practically anything you need to cut at least for me it does. Now all Ryobi needs is a reciprocal cutting head attachment! Since I don’t have the brush cutter attachment, I had great results using the Rino-Tuff twisted trimmer line on small saplings. Ultimately yeah you should use the brush cutter attachment for that kind of stuff!

Love this tool. I have the older model. Love love the form is. Just like a gas weed eater. The battery life is ok. I cut three lawns and the battery does not last. But I would go with a 6 amp. Love that I can buy different cutting heads. The low speed is the best just if your yard is samll. Have a good day!

I have the older 13-15 one, I think the only difference is the guard. The rest of the unit looks identical. The head unit sure is. I use it with a brush cutter, edger, snow shovel and pole saw, expand-it is a great platform

Right now, the Ryobi Brushless 16" with 4AH battery and charger is $200, down from $280, plus has the interchangeable shaft tools. I am thinking about that one. The 17" Ryobi is $300 or $320, but does not have the interchangeable shaft tools. I have been considering EGO as the people I know say it is really powerful, but people have been complaining about the warranty support.

@@lucasforsythe6488 are you referring to the 16-in one for $200? I am leaning towards that one.

So the same as the 15inch carbon fiber model with just the difference in guard

Seems like a pretty decent upgrade over the original 40V HP with steel shaft. Any idea how it compares to the larger 17” model and the new dedicated brush cutter with the bicycle handle bars?

I picked up the 17 when it was on sale a month or so ago. Never used the 40v 16" before, just one of the ryobi 18v ones. I'd argue the 17 is almost too much for a normal neighborhood lawn, maybe for thick southern grass. Its heavy and powerful enough that its tough to make it look nice, . It rips tho, it'll dig up an inch of dirt if you let it. Also the motor is in the head so you lose the attachment options of the 16, but probably gain a little efficiency.

@@Chris-du7hi Awesome! Thank you so much for the feedback! I knew Ryobi had a whisper with the motor in the head, but I didn’t realize it was the 17” model. Serves me right for not looking. Thank you again!

I brought the EGO over this. But I love this though. It was a hard decision since I have more ryobi outdoor tools. The EGo was rated higher

It’s almost impossible to remove the head by hand. I use a strap wrench. Otherwise pretty decent.

Well I have 4 string trimmers I have the ryobi like you showed and a straight shaft milwaukee 18 volt string trimmer and a milwaukee split shaft trimmer and a ego trimmer . If I want speed it’s the ego but I really like the milwaukee . Yup ryobi is my last choice . Normally I grab the milwaukee because it very lite .

I recently purchased this item. Here's what few people tell you. Swapping out the head to use the serrated blade attachment is freaking difficult. It's hard as heck to get that thing to twist off. I've tried this on two other Ryobi string trimmers and they are all difficult to remove. If anyone out there has a suggestion as to make this easier, please chime in. Speaking of the serrated blade. Mine broke within 10 minutes of use, just trimming thicker weeds. Get ready to buy the 8 pack replacements pretty quick. Also, this thing chews through the trimmer line like theres no tomorrow. Be prepared to buy ALOT of line.
