I have been on a quest to find the best battery string trimmer for homeowners and have owned probably 10 different ones in the last 3 or 4 years. In this video I show the new for 2022 40V HP Brushless Whisper Series 17 in. Cordless Battery Carbon Fiber Shaft String Trimmer w/ 6.0 Ah Battery string trimmer. I was honestly shocked at how good this trimmer was!

I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzbin.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

Good honest looking review. I actually started with the little 18 volt string trimmer as I have 32 Ryobi 18 volt tools and thought this one would do the job. The honest truth is that it's great for around trees an occasional bush and the four mailboxes on my side of the road but it's only a single line of 065 and is not powerful enough for taller thick grass or thicker weeds. I have started to purchase the 40 volt tools and will get the new trimmer in the spring when the 2023 models show up. Thanks and I sure hope you get to fish in that nice looking pond.

I have been running the carbon fiber Gen 1 Ryobi 40V trimmer for 2 seasons now with daily commercial grade use. It's my favorite tool I own. That's a bit of a heavy battery to run , but well worth the cost if you have other 40V Ryobi tools

Ryobi is getting very bold with their pricing lately. Especially with HP and their 40v lineup. A 40v battery costing over $200 is nuts because they used to be the cheap, affordable brand. Now their "Milwaukee" is showing a bit.

Brett, great video. Thanks. I bought this a year ago and it is a fantastic trimmer. However the spool head is not as easy as you claim. To unlock the head is a royal PITA. Even after that the string would not wind evenly and would always jam up. I finally gave up and bought a Speed Feed head which works so much better. It's true the batteries are great as long as you have the fast charger. The small slow charger takes four hours to fully charge a 4 AH battery which is what mine came with. One more caveat, after a year you need to relubricate the gear head and the flex rod in the shaft. It started making noise, and when I took it apart there was hardly any grease on the flex rod inside. After greasing with some Red Armor lithium grease it was humming once again.

Solid. I just got their 40v cross cut mower that comes with 2 6AH batteries so I'd like to pick up the trimmer that also comes with a 6ah battery for 3 total & 2 chargers. I can mow my yard with 1 battery & have to switch to the other for about 3 passes at the end. I'm sure there's enough juice I can maybe get the trimmer tool no battery or charger but to have a 3rd battery & 2nd charger would be sweet.

I chose the 40V HP with carbon shaft but not the whisper quiet one. That one I didn’t like the shaft connector joint seems loose even though bolts were tightened. Also it’s not attachment capable since motor is in the trimming head. Pretty happy with mine so far but time will tell. The extra head with blades is a nice throw-in to the kit.Not quite as much power as gas but much quieter & very convenient.

The best battery-operated weed wacker for me would be one that can cut through tall growth without cutting off like the 3 Echos you tested in another video. The Echo DPAS 2600 would have to one consideration. Having said that, this Ryobi surprises me considering the lower voltage (40V vs 56V). The negative reviews on Home Depot are worth reading though. It also appears the plastic cutting blades are no longer included.

The first one died 10min after I fired it up, the second one had a battery issue from the factory, and now the third one has a sticky trigger and I can’t get it to turn off after I use it! Great trimmer, with a few modifications it would be perfect, direct competition to the top of the line gas trimmers (Sthil, echo, Husqvarna, etc) from the competition: (1) at the top where the battery is connected the wider side should be at the bottom side and the batteries should be incline forward. (2) the motor casing at the bottom should be all metal, smaller and of the same color as the shaft. The idea is to make it lighter and almost invisible. (3) the spinning trimmer head at the bottom should be wider at the bottom and of Ryobi green. Combined with point #2 this will help the user to focus on the spinning trimmer head, and not the casing when looking down toward the area he is trimming (4) some people love the reflector guard, some people hate it, especially when using fixed line. So attached it to the pole and not to the motor casing, and make it easy to remove it or move/slide it upward and out of the way. (5) emphasize and improve the use of the fixed line. Using 0.105 line it is more difficult to remove it to replace it with new line. Using 0.095 line is a lot faster and easier. (6) include a small, light backpack where the user can carry trimmer line, line cutter, and even an extra battery. (7) Develop an 8ah, 300+Wh battery of roughly the same size and weight as the 6ah. 225wh battery. For commercial use the trimmer kit should include two 8ah, 300wh batteries, one high speed charger and the extra battery/tool, backpack. all this for $400, or slightly less....

Great review. Clearly explains the product and demonstrates all the important features of the trimmer. Personally think the EGO trimmers with the POWERLOAD head are the best for domestic situations. From an engineering pov, the EGO battery technology is right up there. One hopes that Warranty support and Customer Service won't be needed but that is an important thing to consider when comparing Brands. Here in Australia, the Ryobi trimmer retails for $600 AUD (approx $420 USD), ships with a 36V battery. (However for all intents and purposes it is the same battery as you guys topside call a 40V battery). The local bundle DOES NOT include the extra head with the hard plastic blades is not available as a local purchase option. Warranty coverage is 4 years on the unit although you can extend that to 6 years if you register your product with Ryobi. It seems that EGO is probably better value for money in Australia unless you already invested in Ryobi ecosystem. Cheers :)

It is so cheap to buy repair parts for gas string trimmers. Sometimes you can buy a whole new carburetor for $15. The Ryobi Whisper series are the most neighbor-friendly tools on the market. They make even the other cordless brands sound loud and they are definitely more quiet than the EGO line. I am making the transition because I want to do yardwork more often without worrying about noise so quiet is more important to me than power, although this model is very powerful.

I bought the 15" version of this (came in a dual pack with a leaf blower). When I try to replace the spool head with the hard plastic cutter head, it WILL NOT LOCK. I can't turn it at all. It'll turn if I don't install a head at all. I can see the tabs move into place that locks the head, but if I put either on, they won't lock. Has anyone had this problem? Did you solve it? I'm tempted to try and file the four holes on each head to make them a little bigger. I'm at a loss here; I'd really not have to go through the hassle of returning these things.

I have an 18 v one and it is absolute garbage. Won't cut more than a few seconds then string jams or gets stuck. Tried all types os string up to .095. Junk. Do not waste your money.
