Күн бұрын

I recently published a video about the Ryobi Dethatcher/Scarifier from the UK. This unit is now available in the United States as the P2740 from Home Depot! This is part of the 18V ONE+ line, but uses TWO 18V batteries, for extended run time. This is NOT a 36V tool.
That video can be seen here: • NEW Ryobi Dethatcher/S... I have also done a couple of review and demonstration videos on the SunJoe Dethatcher. Those are here: • New SUN JOE AJ801E Det... and here: • The Sun Joe AJ801E DET... for your reference.
After I published this video there were many questions. Mostly about the batteries, was it an 18V or 36V system, was the US unit going to be a 40V tool, and what was the life of the batteries.
The next question was about the catch bag, or should I just let the thatch drop? use a mower? How did I clean up? Which blade works best? and what accessories are included.
And finally there we questions about the durability and quality of the unit, how did it compare to the Greenworks or the SunJoe dethatchers. Was the battery unit as good as a corded power unit?
I hope I answered everyone;s questions, and much more! Thank you for your support!

Thanks for the info. As for the batteries, I have 2 comments. 1. I always compare the voltage of the battery to the size of the engine and the amp hours to the size of the gas tank. A higher amp-hour capacity should just equate to a longer run time in most cases. 2. This tool is in their "HP" line. While normal non-HP batteries will work in them, they are designed to be used with the HP batteries. Most if not all of their brushless tools work better with the new batteries. The new batteries have extra contacts on the post that provide communication to the tool to be able increase the discharge rate under high loads. The normal batteries don't have this so you end up with lower max power output of the tool. I'm looking forward to these releasing in the states soon.

@@DadItYourselfDIY I really wish they didn't force me to buy more batteries and another charger. Sometime Ryobi makes dumb choices. I'm going to write them an email asking why they won't release it as tool only. Seems unnecessary. They could always have the 2 pack of batteries as a recommended add-on but don't force me. Really annoying. That has to add at least $100 to the price I'd bet.

Watt hours also doesn't explain increased power as it merely can be increased by delivering the same amount of power for longer (ie not more power). Chances are it is self regulating power output to get longer run times on smaller batteries.

Ahhh trolls...good for boosting the number of comments on a video but pretty much useless for all other matters lol. So I have 2 request. Wait, first off your 4 gallon backpack sprayer video on the roof sold me on one for myself. I love that tool. It got me back in the Ryobi lineup. I run yellow and red stuff but some of Ryobi’s niche tools are absolutely brilliant and affordable. Now back to the requests. I’d really like to see a short clip of de thatching with the rear door propped open. Maybe you can find a neighbor or community park since your yard is pretty squared away. Second I’d really like to see if A) the Dewalt battery adapter with Dewalt batteries fits under the cover and If not by how much it misses and B) run it with DeWalts 5.0 and 6.0 20v XR batteries and give feedback on power output. I have an adapter because I have a dozen 20v 5.0ah batteries alone and the Dewalt batteries really get all a Ryobi motor has to give as several KZbin videos will prove. Torque Test Channel has a particularly interesting battery comparison on the new Ryobi mid torque impact. Thanks for your quality content!

Sorry. I'm no battery expert. There could be lots of differences between your two batteries. All I know is that the Wh explanation is like saying a 4 gallon sprayer can shoot water farther than a 1 gallon sprayer. The Wh is a measure of storage not how quickly the electricity can be used by the motor.

@@DadItYourselfDIY The difference that will determine if a battery is more powerful than another will, in this case, generally be the dimensions of the pack, the thicker packs being more powerful. This is due to these pack having an extra row of cells. The thinner packs have 5 cells in series, where the thicker have 2 in parallel for each series connection, or 5s2p (5series2parallel) this enables a greater current draw from the pack.

Most of my non-lawn related power tools are Ridgid but I recently started to invest into Ryobi 40v for lawn tools (trimmer which allows for my previously acquired Expand-It attachments and the 18 inch chainsaw). Doesn’t make sense to me why this isn’t part of the 40v platform. Thought heavy duty lawn related tools define the 40v playform. Seems more effective than my tow behind Agri-Fab tine dethatcher. Would be perfect (for me anyways) if on singular 40v battery and if it allows for aerator attachment. However I imagine as an aerator it would require ability to add weight to drive plug blade into the soil so maybe not. I’m liking the Ryobi 40v platform so far. 40v Cultivating 8” Auger next!

Watt-hours is not power. It's energy. Amp hours multiplied by the voltage is the Watt-hours. What you should consider when powering the unit it the volts. The bigger batteries maintain the voltage for longer than the smaller ones. 'Power' is not the battery capacity. This must be a symptom of the archaic imperial system.
@DadItYourselfDIY
@DadItYourselfDIY 2 жыл бұрын
I have found that this motor just requires more amps.. the 3ah batteries just seem to work for short periods of time, and cannot handle the "draw". 6ah, no issues at all. But this is probably why the US version will be delivered with 4ah. I can only imagine the runtime for me with 9ah. My entire front, back and side lawns over 2,500 sf in one run.
@ecospider5
@ecospider5 2 жыл бұрын
In general you are right. But within the Ryobi eco system you can assume a higher ah battery is going to give you more instantaneous amps. This is because they mainly use the same cells within there batteries. So the 1.5ah and 2.0ah batteries use 5 cells. The 4ah uses 10cells. The 6ah uses 15cells. So if it is the same cells in the 2ah as the 6ah then the 6ah is going to be able to output 3 times as many watts. But this is only true because we are talking about a bunch of batteries all made by Ryobi. So the off brand batteries he ended up using probably have lower quality cells and the Ryobi 4ah batteries might output more watts than those 6ah batteries. But they worked so does it really matter?

scarifier has tines but some have blades..so you could argue its a dethatcher crossed with a verticutter ...a verticutter is like a dethatcher but with alot more blades..look at the allett range or look at commerical scarifiers..camon ,aliet ,john deere,allen all have blades and the option of tines..then the germans call all bladed machines verticutters..the true difference is how you use it..go deep..its a scarifier..go higher and its a verticutter and is less aggressive

Great points. I like using the term power rake when it has tines.

Only in America people have fucking sterilised their lawns so much that they literally need to scoop dead grass underneath their lawns lmao not even mentioning that they literally make them look dead and artifical by removing any other plant that brings anything interesting I live in Poland, we only mow grass from time to time, the clover covers the whole lawn with beautifull white flowers and other plants bring different colors and looks making it very pleasant to the eye, I even can collect edible mushrooms from spring to fall from my lawn for scrambled eggs Meanwhile in Burgerland ppl strip dead grass underneath lawns to keep them from dying...

Well we have natural lawns, and wildflower fields as well..I just choose not to have one in the suburbs. A nice lawn is appealing to me and my neighbors, provides a nice clean and tidy appearance, and from an American perspective, that says safe and comfortable.
